Thanks Nick for your on going support. Glad to hear that you have have moved in and have finally started working on your miniatures. Part of the challenge that comes with painting your game pieces is the difficulty with making them historically accurate while still being able to introduce color schemes that makes it possible to tell them apart on the game board. Trust me when I tell you....that it's easier said than done. Of course there is the issue of finding historically accurate miniatures the are genuine to each country. Manufacturers like Shapeways and General Headquarters have been a great help for me. I have also made my own Game piece alterations. Take for instance my French Battle Ship the Richeliu......its a modified game piece of the Japanese battle ship that comes with the board game. Some times you have to make due with what's given to you. I am glad that you are on your way and can't wait to see your first set. Once you start you will only get better and better. You will get your criticism here and there but it's all good. You will get better....

DTROY,Beautiful work man! Your table captured me with the Vegas style dice tray! I gotta see my dice rolling man to be content, not all cramped into some little box. Let em roll! Don't worry about the glare. GHG did the same thing. Check with him on how to paste on a new one.Tef

Beautiful table and amazing job DTROY! It really keeps me inspired to watch your videos. I've been continuing to work on 1914 minis as much as I can, even though I just moved and I'm still getting situated at my new place. With 1914 it's kinda a challenge because other than infantry pieces, all the pieces are the same model in the different faction colors. For example, all 8 factions use the British Mark V tank in various colors. I've been ordering as many unique 3D printed tanks as possible, but I can't find any for Austria-Hungary or the Ottomans. I actually managed to find a German Fokker Dr1 Triplane which is pretty cool; I'm going to paint at least one of them like the Red Baron, lol. I think I'm going to run into trouble when it comes to ships though, It's going to be difficult to tell whose is what once they're all painted. I'm trying to do them "right" from the beginning, but as I'm picking up more techniques and skill, I find myself going back and re-doing or fixing stuff, kinda like you were as you were getting better throughout your videos. Hopefully by the time I get to the WW2 minis, I'll be very proficient at painting them.

This is beautiful Dtroy! What material did you print the map on?
@axisallies-thegarrison25336 жыл бұрын
Hi Matt....I had my map professionally printed. The printer printed the Map on a sheet of PVC making it a sturdy surface. Thanks for your comment.
@mdt2606 жыл бұрын
@@axisallies-thegarrison2533 Thanks! It appears to be a relatively rigid PVC material, not a typical banner material that is "drapable", correct?
@axisallies-thegarrison25336 жыл бұрын
That is correct Matt....but that is just my personal preference. You can have the map printed on vinyl if you like. Vinyl is more flexible and is better suited when it comes to storage purposes. If you dont have a dedicated playing area I suggest vinyl is the better choice. This way you can store the map away when not gaming.
@mdt2606 жыл бұрын
@@axisallies-thegarrison2533 Thanks! I do have one already on vinyl banner material, but am working on getting another printed on a material more similar to yours, as I like its "lay-flat" characteristics better. I'm thinking to have it printed either on rigid PVC or polystyrene.
@axisallies-thegarrison25336 жыл бұрын
Ok....sounds like you know what you want. If that's the case you should have no issue with a map that is more rigid. PVC worked for me and I am very happy with the end product. Just make sure that they print your map on a surface that is non glare and that is resistant to scratching.

Awesome job. We are building our own map table also. I already have the map printed. How exactly did you mount the map to the table? Is it just glued down? What did you use? Did you use or consider some kind of protective overlay? Thanks and great job!
@axisallies-thegarrison25336 жыл бұрын
Glad to hear that you are building your own game table. My game map I had professionally printed on PVC material. Its pretty sturdy and provides an excellent surface. My suggestion for you is not to have the map glued on to the table. It really is not a necessary step. What I do suggest is that you go to a printer that can print your map using a flat or matt finish. However make certain to ask your printer if doing so will make your game map more prone to getting scratched. Keep in mind that when playing guys some times tend to drag the game pieces on the game map causing scratches on the surface. So this is where a layer of clear coating can help protect your game map. This is something that you should mention to your printer. If you already printed your game map then it may be worth the while buying a couple of cans clear coating spray matte finish. This will protect the surface of your map. Just make sure you use a light layer. Test a small section of your map first and see how the clear coating takes. If you already painted your map with a high gloss finish you may still benefit by spraying your map with a clear Matt finish because it will reduce the glare that comes back at you when gaming. I had this issue with my first map.

Axis & Allies-THE GARRISON so your map is just laying there? Our map is already printed but I'd like to secure it somehow. I was thinking maybe a very thin layer of plexiglass?
@axisallies-thegarrison25336 жыл бұрын
A thin layer of plexi glass would work well. The reason why I suggest that you don't glue your map to your table top is because you never know if you ever will have to disassemble your table or move it from one place to another. If your map is glued to your table top it may become an issue then.
@calaski81236 жыл бұрын
I am planning to make the legs fold in so I can store it away when not playing. Plexiglas would allow me cover the map with something when playing a different game. Thanks

Ok....sounds like a good design concept. There really is no right or wrong way on how to build your own table. Its all about personal preferences. As long as you know what you want and where you are going. Good luck and let me know if you need any more advice.

Hi great table and map!I What did you print the map on? I think if you tried to shade the overhead lights the gloss would actually wind up being better than a matte finish.

Great vid. Thx for sharing. Where'd you go to get that map file and what material did you print on and who printed it?
@axisallies-thegarrison25335 жыл бұрын
Hi Brad...sorry for the long delay. My game map was printed on sticker and it was laminated and mounted on PVC. You may get the map file from Young Grasshoppers thread from the Cliffside Bunker on Axis&Allies.org forum. All you have to do is register and set up an account. I will look for the link later and send it to you once I have reset my password to the forum. For some reason I am currently locked out and can't gain access to the forum.

Abraham the map file that you want to down load is a joint collaboration of Ambilzi from Axis and Allies.org and Young grasshopper from the Cliffside Bunker in Ontario Canada. They jointly developed the map file that you can download from Axisandallies.org. First go to forums and then to customizations.....or try this link. www.mediafire.com/view/rdaipoycmccpr85/A%26A_1940_Global_Game_Board.jpg

You can have the map file professionally printed at any print shop on any surface of your liking. Just one word of advice, make certain that the map is printed on a flat Matt finish that will not reflect any glare back at you that is not conducive for table top gaming. If you have any other questions please feel free to ask. Also check out Young Grasshoppers channel call the Cliffside Bunker. His videos are excellent and he can provide you with much insight that I am sure you will find interesting.

Hunter Jones ....You can buy the plastic trays at either. The Home Depot or Lowes. They are about 4 or 5 dollars each. Harbor Freight also sells them for like about 4 dollars each tray.
