Brilliant advice and an awesome seat! We're going to buy second Minikid 2.0 for our younger child who's almost 1yo. Older sibling can use his seat for maybe 2-3 more years 👍👌 We've had the first 2.0 for maybe three years and have had to fit the seat in several different cars as we've so far only rented a car for whatever vacation we need. Havent't had any issues. The rear facing seat does take space so with smaller cars fitting it behind me (177cm tall) my legs may have less space than I'd like to.
@RearFacingToddlers3 жыл бұрын
If you have an age gap of two or more years, your children are unlikely to both be between 18 and 25kg at the same time, so I would get the youngest a seat up to 18kg such as the Axkid Modukid, which takes up less space in the car and gives you more legroom in the front.

I was so glad to find this video because I have been trying to find cars with Isofix in the front seat and I can't find a single one (I live in Sweden), as I'm planing on having kids without a partner and want to have the kid in the front passanger seat. I found the ones where you only use the seatbelt to fasten the baby carseat and that didn't feel safe to me plus with this one, Axkid Minikid, I could leave the carseat in the car and just remove the baby! Those extra "straps" under the seat made this one feel alot safer! Thanks for this video!

That's great to hear, and the Minikid is a brilliant car seat. Do be aware though that it is not suitable from birth, so you will need an infant carrier for the first year or so.

Unclear how you tied the staps... did you put it through the metal loop or make a knot with the fabric?
@RearFacingToddlers3 жыл бұрын
The white stitching on the straps are on a double layer of webbing. You pass the end of the strap under the front seat's runner rail and then pass the metal bracket through the nearest double layer to make it as short as possible, and then pull tight. You don't pass it through the bracket or tie the strap in a knot.

Is it correct that when using the tether straps, you will lose quite a bit of room to move the front seat back on the rails? The knot/loop restrics how far the seat can go back and I don't want to force it any further in case the straps become damaged, but I find my driving position is much further forward now because of the straps?
@RearFacingToddlers2 жыл бұрын
You may need to slide the front seat a bit further forward to get the seats under the rails. Leave the straps open, slide the seat back to the desired position before fastening the straps.

Very nice video. I'm still debating with myself about starting with an isofix mounted Axkid Modukid for behind my driver's seat, as the Minikid really looks like it will put a lot of deformation and marks on the car seats. But my boy's latest measurement indicates that he is 90th percentile. Right now he is only 8 months but his current infant seat is getting too narrow.
@RearFacingToddlers4 жыл бұрын
Hi, On the 90th percentile he really does need a seat up to 25kg as one up to 18kg like the Modukid won't last him long enough. I have been selling Minikids for seven years and I can honestly say that no one has ever complained about the seat leaving permanent marks on the vehicle's upholstery. If you are worried about the recline bar leaving a dent, you could add the wedge which has a flat bottom.

I have a question, is there supposed to be a slope on the chair? meaning, different cars have a different slope on the back seats, and also the chair has adjustments in the front, how much should I tilt it? is there a line or something that is supposed to be horizontal when installing it?
@RearFacingToddlers Жыл бұрын
You should aim for the car seat to be as upright as possible with just enough recline to stop the head from falling forward when the child is asleep. In cars with sloped seats, car seats like the Minikid can be too upright, and if that's the case you can install it with the optional recline wedge under the recline bar. There is no line, you can play around witrh the position of this seat quite a bit, as long as you don't over recline it. The backrest should be no more than 40º from vertical. You can use a spirit level app on your phone to measure the angle if you need to.
@seldaboy4064 жыл бұрын
Could you do a installation video with the wedge please x
@seldaboy4064 жыл бұрын
Not sure what I have done wrong but the car seat has moved position. I think I'm not fitting the wedge properly. Whereas the other car seat which you have fitted in my car is still in the same position 🤔 I am doing something wrong
@RearFacingToddlers4 жыл бұрын
Hi, The Minikid's recline bar needs to sit in the groove in the wedge. If you look at the wedge from the side, you will see that the flat side is slightly higher than the angled side. Place the wedge in the car with the flat higher side towards the vehicle seat's backrest. Put the Minikid in the car with the recline bar (which I always extend) in the groove. The wedge isn't as wide as the bar, so make sure it's in the middle. Then tighten the seat belt and lock it, attach the tethers and tighten them and then extend the leg. I will try to do a video when I have a minute. Margaret :)

How many times are you pulling the seat belt through the holes? I was under the impression it’s only once but this video implies that it’s more than once. A bit confused now.
@RearFacingToddlers3 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure exactly what you mean... The belt goes up through the hole nearest the door, then across the seat under the cover and down the hole near the belt buckle. You then pull the belt tight and lock the clips.

It's hard to give a full list, generally you'll get more room in people carriers. But there are plenty of five-seaters that are spacious too.

Hi, on our seat, when we come to undo the child, the head rest doesn't automatically go all the way back to the top when we pull the straps to loosen. We have to manually push the headrest all the way up....any idea why?
@RearFacingToddlers3 жыл бұрын
Does it make a noise and seem stiff when you pull it up? It doesn't always go up by itself, I'm not sure why, but it's not a fault unless it doesn't move easily and then it needs to be repaired.

@@RearFacingToddlers no not particularly stiff or noisy. It just feels like it comes down really smoothly but it's almost manual to push it back up afterwards rather than automatic

Absolutely. It's a rear facing only seat anyway, so you can't ever turn it around, but it can definitely go in the front seat. I explain how to do it in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/o5_JfmdjgZ2jp5o

I have an opel meriva 2011, and the rails of the front seats don't have space for the tether straps... I don't know what to do
@RearFacingToddlers2 жыл бұрын
Have you seen my video that explains how to attach the straps? kzbin.info/www/bejne/qnXao36cmq1_rdk In some cars it helps to move the front seat all the way forward and then pass the strap under the rail a bit further forward, sometimes there a bit of a dip in the carpet further along. And then you just slide it back when it's under the rail and move the front seat back. Sometimes the rails can be very close to the floor and then you will need a blunt knife to push the straps under the rails.

Rear Facing Toddlers If it depends on the length of the torso, how do you judge when the child is too tall for it?

This looks dangerous, the kiddos head is way too far above the shell, and the seats bracing so in a crash the head would hit the front seat. That doesn’t seem safe
@RearFacingToddlers4 жыл бұрын
The comments that you have made suggest that you are from America, where car seats and the rules on how they should be used are different. This is a European seat, installed and used correctly and safely.
@haydenlee26104 жыл бұрын
Rear Facing Toddlers does that mean America seats arnt safe? How is it ok for it to brace tho? And the head above the seat how is that safe? Pleas I don’t get it, also if us seats arnt safe why would I want my kid in one😢. It’s confusing
@RearFacingToddlers4 жыл бұрын
American seats tend to be more reclined, so in a crash the child can slide up the seat's backrest and risk head injury by striking the back of the front seat. This is why in American seats the head has to be below the top edge of the seat and the seat is not allowed to touch the front seat behind it. European seats are more upright so rather than slide up the backrest, the child is simply pushed back. That way there is no risk of the head making contact with the back of the front seat. The seat bracing on the front seat minimises movement in a crash and also helps ride down the crash forces.
