Welcome to Holtonsfixit101. In this video I'm talking about the Axminster AC118CE cyclone dust extractor. Having this extractor in my workshop is night and day compared to my old dust extractor meaning the difference between them is huge. The power of the motor for one this new one has a 1500W motor (in old money that 2Hp), this one also has a cyclone separator for heavier dust particles and a huge filter element.
The motor as mentioned is 1500W 240V which means here in the UK can be plugged into a standard 13A wall socket, no need for higher amp power supply here.
The machine comes with a 125mm to 2x100mm Y splitter hose connection so you can run two 100mm hoses or one 125mm hose right out of the box. But as you see from my video the even on a 100mm hose the extractor has plenty of suction. I touched on in the video that I use this extractor on three main machines in my workshop, the router table, the surface planer and the thickness planer but applications for this machine with the suction power it has are endless. As for reducing the dust in my workshop the most I notice a difference is using my thickness planer that produces huge amounts of dust and shavings and now after using this machine I have very little around my thicknesser to clean up.
When the extractor arrived there was some assembly. It come in two huge boxes an a wooden crate. I would class this as a medium build e.g. from 1-10 (1 being easy and 10 being hard) I'll give it a 5. Putting the casters on and the red frame together was a piece of cake, the hardest part was holding the impeller and motor assembly in place and try to thread a bolt at the same time. Credit to my son who kindly helped me with this because your never be able to lift this on your own unless you have a way of lifting the motor unit in place e.g. hoist. The only thing about the build of this machine is that some of the bolts Axminster provided were I felt a little short in length so had to source some longer ones.
Overall I'm very pleased with this extractor. It does what it says on the tin. Yes it was a big chunk of money to shell out just for an extractor for a home workshop but now I've been using this for a few months it's worth every penny I paid.

Good review, thank you! I bought this machine today after much deliberation! Hoping its not underpowered for my needs (Laguna Table saw, CNC machine, planer and drum sander) but considering next option is three times the price I figure worth a shot.

Considering one of these for my next workshop. Can you tell me if the switch is a regular on/off rocker or an NVR type? Also, can you recall what length of bolts you required?

Hello and thanks for the coment. The switch for this machine is of the NVR type, this I would think is for safety reasons but this is not good if you want to have the collector as a central dust collecting machine. if thats what you intend to do then you might have to change the switch. I think there are just straight on/off replacemants but got to remember that the motor does have a lot of watts to it so get one the can handle that amount of juice. Please be mindful of the safety factors when changing a switch to. As for the bolts. as i recall the bolts i used were some i had in storage but they were M8 x 40. Theres a big cavity behind where those bolts go in. I changed them because the bolts they provided were not what I considered long enough and the one's for the castors I believe I use M6 x 30 but it was about a year ago I put mine together so I could be wrong with those. Anyway good luck if your hoping to get one of these machines. you wont be disappointed I've had mine for a year and never had to clean the bag that hanging from the filter and as for the filter that's as clean as the day I bought it.

@@Holtonsfixit101 Thanks for that. Yes, hoping to use it 'plumbed in' and activated when a machine comes on. Cannot understand why a dust extractor needs an NVR!

I got this machine for 1.5 year now and I’m really not happy with it. Bought it out of the selling point “for those who like clean air in their lungs” And that is a lie since the machine leaks dust in every connection, even from the spot welded ones. Also been having electrical issues, some sort of loose connection. But helps janking the cable to the motor. And on top of this the design for the dust collection plastic bag is just cheap and stupid. 1. It’s a pain to change the bag. Estimate 5 to 10 min work. 2. Since there is no dust vacuum barrel the plastic dust bag takes all the vacuum over some sort of frame that can brake the bag. 3. The frame that holds the dust bag is placed in the bag(since there is no vacuum barrel) so when You filled a dust bag you need to take out the frame from the bag. Attempt to do that with cleanliness in mined. If you plan to buy this machine please do your research. See it in action, compare it to other machines. Don’t do like me and just buy it out of what the manufacturer have to say about it.
