The better way to illustrate this scene would have been to simply have two AI's play the game against each other once the captains took over. I know they didn't have a professional chess player on standby to make this scene, but there's no reason they could have just made literal computers play against once another. Heck, they could have just fed the board information into something like "next best move" for each turn.

3:15 white is losing but black blundered qxf3 (Black could have taken the knight with the bishop and could easily win the game after that; note that bxf3 is not forced checkmate since there's qe8 followed by qe4 sacrificing the queen then after bxe4, white could play f3 to not lose the game). It's white to move and the crushing move for white is Qg5 (which I'm not sure if it's played in the series). It is both a protecting and a threatening checkmate since it protects g2 pawn and threatens checkmate on g7. If black hxg5 then white could take the black queen and there's no forced mate because the black pawn would block the rook from checking the white king and white would be up a whole rook from winning the black queen, but if white doesn't take the queen then it's a forced mate for white(Qxg7#). You can see from this position 3:34 that the black queen took on f3 and white didn't have to take back at all(In the series, White took the Black queen, which was a big blunder, leading to a forced mate after Black's rook moved to g6, followed by Bxf3). I haven't watched the series but I really like chess a lot and I hope you guys understand what I am trying to pinpoint 😅

I was disappointed with the chess game. That was not a brilliant game. Instead of Sakayanagi's move Qxf3 (Queen on g4 takes Horse at f3), she should have move Bxf3 (Bishop on c6 takes Horse at f3) because this move is an unstoppable victory for black. Ayanokoji played a losing game. Ayanokoji's move Nxe7 (Horse on f5 take Horse on e7) was a big blunder for Ayanokoji. The author did not study this game thoroughly. A big flaw in anime adaptation.
