a work-in-progress view raised by your video caparison of these fine brass tools::: SR vs RBSR is a data-field that casts useful light on blade exposure of safety razors. Straight Razors (SR) have full blade exposure and RBSR Replaceable Blade Straight Razors, sometimes called, "Shavettes," from the Dovo trademark, have blade exposure up to the clamp device which varies per type. There is no gap or safety feature that ensconces the blade edge. Kaleb Aylsworth expresses a view common among some wet shaving enthusiasts in preference of more blade exposure in safety razors in his own personal experience. I think it is nice the Apex AL gives Henson shoppers an excellent alternative. Many find RBSRs more difficult to use effectively than regular Straight Razors which seem to afford more yield or give. Because the newer technology of RBSRs like the Feather & Focus Aluminum Slim R 28 have become the most common tool of barbers, their relevance is strong. Barbers like the one customer one blade solution and the dexterity of the Shavette. Relative to a fresh Replaceable Blade in an RBSR the .99mm exposure of the Kopparkant is much easier to manage. Safety razors with low blade exposure (.5mm, .7mm) play a wonderful role by bringing people into traditional shaving and out of the plastic disposable costs and other setback factors is a way that is fun and safe. They are also great as we age. Beyond those two valuable applications, I really enjoy Henson & Aylsworth Apex low exposure models for travel occasions in particular where the stakes can be higher to shave well but not have nicks or a surprise cut. Some third world razor models with funky DE blade clamp angles are useful practice for SR & RBSR because they work if your angles are good and you are careful. Similarly the .99 on my Kopparkant is nice because it holds a touch of the danger of my SRs and RBSRs and creates a bond between them and the safety razor style. It is true as you mention that it is only the first pass where a more aggressive blade exposure in a safety razor makes a particular difference. This is a perspective that can take a while to discover and it makes the low blade exposure models great vs heavy growth. Multiple passes with a RBSR is the most difficult method in wet shaving as far as I know and it has certain pleasant advantages. Keeping one's skill and developing it can make a .99 blade exposure (and greater) helpful even on followup passes not that it is needed to cut the hairs but it keeps us fresh with successfully managing sharp exposed blades.

Great shave, John🙂 Both look like great razors. I like the brass and I never thought about how brass retains more heat. That's a cool fact to consider if going with brass. Also, the head on the Aylsworth K almost looks like the Henson AL 13. At least that is my perception. 😊

@samhillanbrand6291 it does remind of a Henson just not as much of a head angle but similar idea.

I just couldn’t get the Kopparkant to work with me in either plate so I sold it. I never looked back when I had got the Overlander.

@@Krisspbacon I do feel your frustration. Mine was about 2 months to get to me. I did finally receive an email near the end when my razor was almost finished. It is frustrating but I do know they are a very small shop and Chris, the owner, does his own QC on every razor and he is self proclaimed OCD and will not let a less than perfect razor leave his shop. Once I received mine I appreciated the fact that I got such a wonderful razor. I think in the end once you receive yours all will be forgotten.
