This public library in Jaffna was set ablaze in 1981, it had 95000 invaluable rare books and publications. This horrendous deed was executed by the hooligans of the UNP (United National Party) who were sent to win the development council elections and the police officers who were deployed for special duties. Four ministers (including Minister of Youth Affairs Ranil Wickramasinghe, the former de facto president ) were sent to Jaffna by the then president J. R. Jayawardene (Ranil Wickramasinge's late uncle) to win the elections by hook or crook. Welcome to New Sri Lanka!

Oh I didn’t know the last bit, that certainly makes the election results more interesting.
@lsabdc3302 ай бұрын
@@ayngelina Yes, it does, and indeed, that has brought an end to de facto RW's five decades of dirty and useless political era. He's pretty much done and dusted, so to speak. More importantly, Sri Lanka has been reborn with the election results on 22nd September 2024!

I need to go back though because Jaffna is famous for having the best food including a crab dish, which was the reason I took a ten hour bus there. I actually had no idea that it was the most important time of the year.

Nehéz megérteni, bár hasonló hagyományokat lát néhány katolikusnál és kereszténynél, és Alan szerint néhány muszlimnál.

@@ayngelina Don't worry lots of Sinhalese racists and hardliners trolling here and running down Tamils Hinduism and misinforming. They always do it. Constantly making derogatory remarks about Tamil people
@sujeevadealwis55132 ай бұрын
@@rohanrohan2688How do you expect us to react when you constantly lie about things being the victim always. Why don’t you talk about the fact that it was the Tamils who started it all with killing soldiers? Manipulative, as usual and opportunist, harboring on the fact that people would sympathies with the minority. We don’t respect deception, and that’s what y’all do. Give a century or two and the same thing will happen to Malaysia and Singapore too.
