A much stronger and better view than that offered by the atheist movement.

Looking forward to a future when more children are raised with Reason, Purpose, and Self-Esteem. Instead of the current and past dominance of being raised religious -- groomed with faith, living for others, in a magical miraculous world.

Thank you for this discussion. I cannot add anything of substance on the topic, only to add that listening to Christopher Hitchens' talk "God is not Great" might provide some comic relief, at least for atheists who were subjected to Christian indoctrination attempts when young.

Was hit once with "in the facts you don't know, couldn't the proof of God exist?" I retorted: "Tell me where I should look."

We don't need to examine every argument for God because we have an absolute defeater, all arguments for God have a self-contradictory proposition as their conclusion. So they can not fail to be unsound.

As far as your comments on desire and fear at about 55 minutes, what you said was really, really good but misses something. Desires are very strong in Stoics, but they always get what they want and are always satisfied because they desire only to act on their logical intentions and logical reactions. They don't imagine they can control results, because no one can, so they don't lose energy getting emotional over results.

I wish Ayn's use of the term selfish was not used or was made more clear in her philosophy because her claims of selfishness make her sound worse than others which she absolutely is not. Everything that we do is because we believe it will satisfy us, either materially or mentally. Therefore everything we do is selfish. If we do something for the idea of a reward after death that is still for our benefit and is selfish. A person who derives gratification mentally, from their heart and conscience (over material concerns), and believe they are selfless, is either 1) ignorant of their own motives and values, 2) are lying when they say they are selfless or 3) they are just virtue signaling and actually regret acting selfless but do it in order to fit in which happens during Christmas: buying presents for others even though they don't find joy in giving (for possibly many, many valid reasons) and therefore give with resentment. So ultimately, "selflessness" has unseen rewards, "selfishness" has tangible rewards. Both are rewards and negate selflessness.
