AYREON'S ANGELS take the lead

A tribute to Ayreon's "backing vocalists" who are in fact great lead singers, all three of them. Footage from the AYREON UNIVERSE 2017 concert, the final try-outs where the Dutch singers and the Angels perform the lead parts done by the internat. cast during the shows.
The try-outs compilation (17min.) and "the making of" docu (84min.) are on the Blu Ray and DVD "Ayreon Universe". Highly recommended!

Put on the live version of everybody dies and look at the parts she sings and then compare her to Floor Jansen a little later. Lisette is amazing! Nice to see this video of Arjen and Joost! Props to them also! They bring legends to sing small parts of songs or do backing vocals! And make it work all together. Can't wait to attend their masterpiece oncoming september in 013.

Just an observation from somebody in the 🇺🇸 . There’s something really, really special about the Dutch music community, especially in the rock/metal scene. I can’t quite put my finger on what “it” is, but there’s no denying “it” exists. So much so that now, if I find a band/group/singer is from the Netherlands I have an almost automatic bias in their favor.

Its honestly a dream of mine to see Irene take to the stage of a Nightwish concert and duet with Floor. I doubt it will happen but I can live in hope. Irene has a powerful voice of her own and there are echos of a sound that shows a familial similarity to Floor with a different flavour. How amazing would it be to hear them sing together with Nightwish

Ah... The Ayreon univers try-out show two weeks before the proper ones... much smaller than the main stage shows, mostly just the band, dutchies and under studdies. Arjen watched most of this from the front of housedesk. (right in front of me), before heading up to the stage. They asked to keep the setlist a secret until the main shows, and yes, these ladies are top notch, just like the band...

Hi there, same here! Saturday matinee show. What an experience! And yes, Simone made quite an impression, not just vocally 😁 Had two homemade LUL! t-shirts (in binary) handy. One I managed to hand over to fluitist Jeroen Goossens and I gave the other one to YT'er "Frank" who was awaiting his VIP entrance tt evening show. He recognized my t-shirt when we got outside: "Hey Brendon, is that you?". Long story short: he gave the shirt to Ed Warby, who recognized it and said that the other one had been the talk of the dressing room haha, nice.

What's a backup singer? One on stand-by, doing nothing, but always ready to step in, should the main singer fail? That's a weird concept for sure. Of course, these backing singers could also act as backup singers, if need be.😊

Lead vocalists doing harmonies that drive a song instead of merely backing it u.. beefing it up, what would the right term be for that? My favourite part is when Arjen says: "Yah Marcela.. what can you say abt Marcela" (interesting pronunciation there). Then both of them proceed to say a lot abt Marcela. As an avowed Bovioso, I approve of this section 😁

Maggy's English has a noticeable French flavour to it. She lives in Wallonia and I assume she's a native speaker in French. She grew up in Leuven tho, which is still Dutch language so she might as well be a native Dutch speaker too.

@@noneofyerbeeswax8194 That stand-in is called an understudy in the larger theatre/opera productions. Often that is another, younger member of the cast. While in pop and rock it may be acceptable that a show is cancelled if the main singer is ill, you can not stop a full production with hundreds of people involved because one person is ill. I have seen many times at the start of an opera that someone takes the stage, informs us that a lead singer is unable to perform and that someone else from the cast is taking over. (once even to great applause from the audience, but that is another story). As this footage shows, also for the Ayreon shows they effectively work with understudies, whether they call them that or not. Indeed some of the Ayreon Angels appear to be are understudies for some roles. But that is something different than 'Floor being the backup singer for Marko in the Islander', that is nonsense, she is backing, supporting him.

Hallo Theo, ik zou het je van harte gunnen dat Arjen c.s. in Zuid-Afrika zouden opduiken. Gaat niet gebeuren, vrees ik. Zuid-Afrika zal naar NL moeten komen, zoals de rest van de wereld (geloof 54 nationaliteiten bij dit concert in 2017). Hansi en de rest stonden vol ongeduld te trappelen om hun optredens te doen tijdens de eigenlijke shows (het waren er drie). Deze beelden zijn van de try-out, vlak ervoor. Ik meen 1 of 2 dagen eerder, voor een select publiek. Vandaar de kleinere zaal etc. De NL zangers & de AA's waren prima in staat om de rollen te spelen van de internat. cast en dat is wat je hier kunt zien. Groet uit Amsterdam!

At the start of the show they (actually Mike Mills) told us that the show would be recorded (so that we could keep our phones in our pockets and fully enjoy the show), so hopefully you can enjoy the show at a later day at least a bit as well. It will be worth it, it was an amazing show.

Hét Universe concert in 2017, Tilburg. Compilatie van de try-outs. Kleiner podium, met de NL zangers ipv de internat. cast. Zodoende krijg je stukjes van hele leuke alternatieve versies te horen. Helaas niet de volledige versies. Bij Lisette's "Actual Fantasy" moest ik een kunstgreep toepassen door een blend te maken met de eigenlijke concertversie (na het gefluisterde "actual fantasy" is het geluid en na het freeze-frame van Lisette ook het beeld van de concertversie ipv de try-out).
