Bigger Issues First of all, this is motorsport. Of course the driver skill doesn’t fully weight on the results. Specially from the late 80's onwards. That’s obvious. Second I didn’t said Schumacher was better than Hamilton, because I can’t say that with no bigger value than personal opinion. And to be honest i really don’t have an opinion on that at all. It’s a tough one. But for me both of them are not the best drivers ever. Though they’re the greatest winners indeed. Yes, if in one hand the evidence does not support Michael superiority over Hamilton, than it doesn’t do the opposite either. The fact is: Mclaren was a far better car than the early Mercedes, that’s a fact, not opinion. Just look up the numbers. Schumacher was a 43 retired driver fighting a far younger exceptional talent. He was no more the same Schumacher when he retired in 2006. One can easily say he was far behind hid better form when he returned fours years later.

Schumacher competed with a very low downforce setup. So the car was very angry during in the corner.. With this setup, it is very difficult to control the car in the corner. It was a exhausting drive. Schumi, on the other hand, was able to brake as late as his opponent. It was his master defense ability. Schumacher had a top speed advantage, but Lewis had a speed advantage in the corner. It also had the benefits of traction and braking. I once had the pleasure of witnessing Mr Schumacher race, I entered the circuit hating him, I left in awe. I have never seen anyone, before or since, keep a car on the very sharpest edge of its capabilities so hard for so long. Perhaps Senna had it too but for me, he was too aggresive, Fangio was a loony, Schumacher had both and cold calculated intelligence and dedication ontop.

Why was Fangio a loony? I thought he was an intelligent driver through out his career except maybe monza 1951.

Fangio is the GOAT. 5 WDC with 4 different constructors, and 1 second place, during a time when there was no safety, cars had no driver aids, tires were very narrow, cars had no aero, and they were a beast to drive. He also trained himself as a mechanic. So, he knew the mechanics of a car and how it worked. He was no loony. He was an intelligent, gifted, and calculating driver.

Adicka Adooki lol. You have no rebuttal. The McLaren was a better car than Mercedes back then but at this particular race McLaren screwed up Hamilton's gear ratios which resulted in him hitting the rev limiter far too early along the straights which also had the added effect of shutting his DRS long before the braking zones. It was a clear compromised settup and combined with Schumacher's numerous illegal defensive manoeuvres the only reasons there was any kind of battle here. Hamilton would have easily dispatched Schumy without his car issues while Schumacher himself needed to worry about far more important things like getting obliterated by Nico Rosberg 3-0 from 2010-2012. Now run along you big baby.

Stunning footage of two of the greatest. This is so much more satisfying than DRS.
@MT-pv2rf5 жыл бұрын
The cars had DRS in 2011. In actual fact McLaren made a mess of Hamilton's gear ratio's and he ended up hitting the rev limiter long before the braking zone which also had the added effect of closing his DRS way too early during the race as he was fighting Schumacher so it was basically a double whammy loss of performance against a Mercedes car that was faster then the McLaren on the straights even without DRS and whilst it was being slipstreamed by the McLaren. There are other battles between these two available to see where Hamilton's car is not so badly compromised and where Schumacher doesn't get away with driving illegally before having to be warned by Ross Brawn over the radio to leave racing room.
