looks like a good recipe - but - it's important to mention in order to activate turmeric, you must have black pepper. so it's not just a taste, it's an essential part of a recipe for turmeric to be effective
@loncho50796 ай бұрын
@ 3:25 She says, " your next step is you're gonna take your half cup of turmeric and a cup to a cup and a half of water and sauté it in a saucepan". " Sauté "????🙄It's impossible to saute turmeric powder in water! Sauté literally means "to fry" in an oil or fat. To cook something in the water over low heat just below the boiling point is to "simmer". BTW, the reason it's important to add black pepper to turmeric paste, is not because it "spices it up", black pepper is important because it helps your body in absorbing more turmeric than it could have without the black pepper.

This looks awesome! I’m also so glad you defined that beta carotene is a precursor to vitamin A. So many people do not know that and think they’re the same thing. Love Banyan Botanicals! I’ve been making y’alls kitchari recipes for years. Gonna be making this turmeric paste for sure for the winter time. Can I freeze it?! I don’t see why not, right? Also: that is a beautiful knife! What kind is it?

Thanks for watching and commenting! We're glad to hear that you're a fan of our kitchari recipes and that you'll be trying this turmeric paste! In general, Ayurveda does not recommend freezing or refrigerating foods when possible because it diminishes the prana (vitality) of food, and freezing might slightly alter the consistency. However, you're welcome to try that and see if it works for you. We don't remember what brand of knife was used, sadly, but when we find out we'll be sure to let you know. Thanks again, and we hope you enjoy your turmeric paste!

Hi there 👋🏼. Wondering if I could use fresh ginger for this... run through my food processor?
@banyanbotanicals3 жыл бұрын
Sure! Ginger boasts its own wonderful properties, however Turmeric has some constituents such as curcumin, that you don't find in ginger. Both are great roots though 😊

@@banyanbotanicals "Constituents"🙄??? In linguistics, a constituent is a word or a group of words that function as a single unit, as in, the constituent structure of sentence. In politics, Constituents are people who are represented politically by a designated government official or officeholder. I think you were trying to say, Turmeric has some "components" such as, curcuminoids. AKA Curcumin. I am by no means an English major, however, the carefree use of malaprops makes me cringe😆.

Hello wondering if I could add honey to the mix
@banyanbotanicals2 жыл бұрын
Honey is a great carrier substance for delivering herbs deeper into the tissues! It is heating and scraping, though, so it may aggravate Pitta when used in excess.

@banyanbotanicals4 жыл бұрын
Yes! If your pitta and vata are equally imbalanced, we recommend following the recipe as-is. If your pitta is the highest imbalance, we recommend substituting the ghee for coconut oil to help cool things down. (It also works as a great vegan alternative to ghee.)

@@banyanbotanicals Much appreciated sweetie. The test results revealed imabalances in all 3 doshas(all are high),however,Kapha and Vata are highest for me. I identify with many physical traits for Kapha and am currently skinny,anxious and heavy.

How much paste do I put into a glass of coconut milk to make tumeric milk? Also is there a limit to how much turmeric one can injest in a day?
@banyanbotanicals2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for tuning in! Generally, 1-2 teaspoons in 1-2 cups of your milk of choice. While there is technically not a limit to the amount of Turmeric that can be ingested, it is heating and pungent, so it could increase Pitta and Vata in excess.

How long do we cook the spices for?
@banyanbotanicals4 жыл бұрын
Great question! You cook the spices (a technique known as tempering) - until the aroma lifts - you smell the spices. Usually takes 2 minute or so - being careful to not overcook them, as it will cause them to burn.

Can one consume this daily straight out of the jar? Like a tbsp a day?

Great question! It depends on your personal preference, but since it is essentially a concentrate, it might be better absorbed and consumed in other foods or drinks.
