Aw, man! I was hoping you'd throw the Synco D2 in there, since it was so positively reviewed a while back, to see how it stands up to some newer offerings from other companies.

Ditto -- bought and use the Synco based on that review, and have been very happy with it. Would be curious.

Sorry about that. My D2 was out on loan to a friend at the time I made the video, otherwise it woulda been in there!

@@BoothJunkie Maybe when you get it back? It’s key to include that in your comparison.

“That’s all I have for you today…” - said as if this was some minimalist presentation, but actually coming right after 20 minutes of gold. It’s somewhat unfortunate that this is represented as a review of one brand of mic. There is so much great information in this for how to make appropriate make choices for your use and space, but many will miss that because they think it’s just a review. So much of this video was high-value for reasons having nothing to do with Azden.
@MarkVO3 жыл бұрын
The MKH 416 handles bass so well. I absolutely agree about the proximity effect, it enhances the bass response and I cannot hear ANY boominess. This also helps because I don't have great bass acoustic treatment in my space currently (it's not dire but not ideal). I'll save up for this mic. With regards to "being hired because you have an MKH416/U87" I wonder if having that microphone as a "statement" tells potential customers how serious you are about your work, but I don't know about this of course.

Great review - I think the L sounds much better at proximity. Mike, I’d appreciate your thoughts on this below if you would be so kind. I’d be interested to know whether the phase effect is a problem in a badly treated room for the L version. I am a podcast producer and often record in less-than-ideal environments, but I also produce video in noisy (conference) environments. I’ve been using my Zoom SSH-6 for some podcasting, video and voiceover work but you can only use one of those at a time since they’re proprietary “capsule” mics and I often need at least two if not three or four mics. These Azden mics seem like a great option and afdordable enough to buy them in bulk as I’ll need to.

I've been considering a shotgun fie streaming so I can keep the mic off camera. Might look into these.
@luk7n3 жыл бұрын
But do you really need to have mic out of camera? If you play games while streaming all other background sounds and clicks on mouse and key would be heard, nothing beats the old good dynamic microphone, it has to be in front of your mouth, as it would be not picking almost any background noise

I know you're more of a voice recording and home studio guy but I would love to hear your take on the "Best microphone for Discord" Obviously it's audio that travels over the internet so there are variables and compression to consider but that would make the video even more interesting, I bet you you'd rake in quite a few views too. Love from the UK

Mike what do you think of the Zoom Podtrak P4 for VO. I used to have the Zoom H5 for VO, but couldn't podcast/headphone feed etc. So testing the PodTrak P4 is it a good option for VO and Podcasting - "all in one" portable setup.

Mike, do you have any recommendations for a pop filter similar to Hook Studios Octo-842S? They don't seem to be in stock anywhere save for eBay which I tend to avoid. I have the Oktava and it is so sensitive to plosives. Thanks!
@BoothJunkie3 жыл бұрын
This might work for you: "SMP-012 shock mount with pop filter", which after a quick look around might only be available on the thir Europe site. www.oktava-shop.com/Microphone-accessories/SMP-012-shock-mount-with-pop-filter.html OktavaUSA doesn't seem to list it, however.

@luk7n3 жыл бұрын
I think that after all of these mics sounded dull and " cheap " not to mention the 3500 which sounds too muddy, the NTG5 is the real one that started to kick in but it´s alot bassy, comparing the 3500L which sounds the best to me for the price to the MKH416, the 3500L is a lot brighter, I can hear some upper register to be present on this mic. Maybe cutting around 7K which is a lot present on the chart of this mic would make it less sibilant and the highs. But I wonder, can you buy the 3500L as separate? I found it in my country only as a pair with the 3500 which makes no sense
@lionheartroar3104 Жыл бұрын
The L version sounds amazing
@MattSkalski2 жыл бұрын
The only mic that was noticably better was the 416. Was it twice as good? no. Would most people care much about the difference? no. Would I die a little bit inside to accept a lower quality to my voice than I know is capable? yes. Is that worth $500? yes (but I have a budget for mics).
@dougtalks3 жыл бұрын
That 3500L is way too sibilant...even on YOUR voice, which is saying something! I can't imagine using it on a voice that has any nasal component to it.
@stanleynowak93253 жыл бұрын
Mike, they are exaggerating your esses. This is weird because you generally don't have a problem with that unless it's induced by the mics.
