Azerbaijan Tower - The World's Tallest Building: MEGAPROJECTS

Azerbaijan’s $100 billion Khazar Islands is the perfect example of everything that’s still wrong with the world’s power structure. It will contain the creatively named Azerbaijan Tower--which will be the world’s tallest building, about 800 feet taller than the current leader, the Burj Khalifa. It’ll be surrounded by 55 artificial islands built in the Caspian Sea from chunks of earth ripped out of a nearby mountain, which - in the end - will be completely destroyed.

This project is not described as well as it should be. More than a luxurious filthy rich lifestyle, it is a project mainly aimed to put Azerbaijan on the map. An entirely new futuristic city that hopes to bring foreign investment from around the world, thus further increasing the stability of Azerbaijan and the Caucasus region. It is true that Azerbaijan still contains a significant poverty rate, but the efforts to fix this are usually gone unnoticed by the global community. There are constant works done to re house refugees and homeless people into better situations.

Foreign investments do not come just because a country builds a big flashy buildings. They come because of natural resources, labor resources, smart workforce, investible companies, tax incentives, and a government that's stable and less corrupt (at least fair and trust worthy enough) to deal with. Last I checked 2019~2020, Azerbaijans per capita income is just over 3,000 USD per year. And that is with a huge income gap. So what the guy said in the video is right. This is a waste of money and resources that can be spend better on its people and creating local brands and enterprises that can attract foreign investments and grow its economy. Only idiots think this is a good idea. And a corrupt wealthy politicians and industrialists with huge ego who want to create a Freudian legacy piece on the backs of their people who'll be footing in the bill for generations to come.

I was born and raised in azerbaijan, and i can easily say that it is extremely poor. there are 700000 qarabakh refugees living in places that i cant call house. i lived in baku but 1 hour from those shiny city centres, in a slum. tbh i was lucky because 1/5 people manage to live in a place like baku. the rest doesnt even know we have oil because they never see it. If you see a post soviet country shining like that, then question again because most of them run by oligarchs just like russia.

Sad to see such hasty judgmental review without genuine research. This is ibrahimovs money. By all accounts he made his fortune in Russia (though native of Azerbaijan), so your criticism of government corruption while admirable, IMHO represents the project unfairly. So far as we are talking about misfortunes of Azerbaija, this is a country that in 26 years of independence from the Soviet Union has achieved quite a bit. Azerbaijan has a literacy rate of 98%, equal for males and females, one of few countries in the world that has sustained this since the 50s. Since independence in 1990, it has spent the oil revenues to build a completely new system of highways across the country, upgraded all school, universities (of which it has many that over 200 year old institutions). Healthcare system has been rebuilt practically from scratch. A 100 billion dollar project will pump massive amount of capital directly into the economy, creating jobs both low income and middle class jobs, boost the manufacturing sector, [in a country of 8 million people] it will contribute to diversification of the economy and, when completed, will attract thousands upon thousands more of gulf country tourists (of which there are already many thousands there now) ostensibly attracted by a secular, tolerant environment of the country. So what exactly is your problem with this? Are you suggesting the ibRagimov just distribute the money to the people of the country to improve their life style? That is not a brilliant economic policy .

actually Azerbaijan is not starving or living in poverty. Degree of unemployment is below 5% and everyone is perfectly happy with this. Those pictures are taken in most Mountainous villages, and some of them are old as much as 15 years. For a country which literally rose from ruins, war and refugee problems. such progress is magnificent. And that project is not funded by government, so basically country won't lose money. And that project is failing due to the government pressure. If you ask me, this is absolutely ridiculous project, i don't know what that businessman thought when he planned this. Actually i believe no one could ever buy house from that "city", except oligarchs and arab sheikhs lol. Reason why West spreads propaganda and false information, is that our country never obeys all the "rules" that western countries determined for "muslim" and "turkic" countries. We won't became like Arab Emirates or Saudi Arabia, which are basically doing what America tells to them.
