How to fix P0705 Code: Transmission Range Sensor Circuit Malfunction (PRNDL Input)
A P0705 code is set when the transmission range sensor cannot send data or provides faulty input to the transmission control module (TCM) or powertrain control module (PCM).
The range sensor provides information to the TCM/PCM on the current gear selected or shift lever position.
For example, If a vehicle is moving at 35 MPH and the range sensor reports the vehicle is in Park, a P0705 code will be triggered.
The sensor can have different names, including Range Sensor, Neutral Safety Switch, Digital Transmission Range (TR) Sensor, A/T Gear Position Sensor, Inhibitor Switch, and more.
Possible Causes of the P0705 Code:
Bad Range Sensor / Neutral Safety Switch
Wiring (Open/short)
Bad transmission (Valve body/shift linkage)
Bad TCM/PCM
