I hitched a ride in a Flying Fortress several years ago, for $450. Worth every cent for a thirty-minute flight. I sat in the nosegunner's seat and "stafed" herds of cattle that we flew over. The plane creaked, groaned, roared, squeaked, rattled, shuddered, and shook! A visceral experience in an iconic aircraft!

This is the B-17 from the Commerative Air wing in Arizona. It is departing runway 2 out of La Porte, Indiana (KPPO). Date is September 8th, 2024. I work as a lineman at the FBO. This plane is AWESOME! there was also a B-25 there as well giving rides! It was a beautiful day!

Amazing how just a collection of engineering parts spannered together can sound so sweet and perform so well 🫡🇬🇧

My father was an engine mechanic and prop specialist for the B17 in Europe during WWII. Met my mother in London at VE celebration and here I am.

The countryside around the airport in this video and the landing video is very reminiscent of the countryside around the bases that the B17 operated from in the UK during WWII

I was thinking the dark screen uploads alleged to be continuous loops of actual B-17 onboard sound were all fakes done with trombones or some sort of synth. I am rather shocked to find out they actually sound like this. I quite expected to hear some sort of rumble/ warble from the exhaust even though all muffled by a turbo waste gate.

For someone now having a ride in that great iconic piece of American aviation history the emotions would be ones of joy and excitement but contrast that for a second to how the crews back in the day must have felt doing the same thing but headed to Germany. Insane levels of bravery there from those men. Wonderful to see today though.

Beautiful music. I’d like to hear one when the engines are out of sync. My favorite sound since I flew for my first time in 1948 and later in all the DCs and the Connie.
