Never realised back then (I was a teenager at the time) just how clever the lyrics to this song are.
@bodsnvimto9 ай бұрын
@@oleggorky906 I was more looking at the intelligent historical and literary-based references, but, yes, you are right, and indeed opened my eyes/ears to it being so clever as being - if indeed such a thing exists - a sort of triple entendre. Cheers for that.
@bodsnvimto9 ай бұрын
@@oleggorky906 And indeed a hearty thank you right back at you. Must admit I'm not anywhere near as up to speed in the world of classic literature as yourself, or indeed my expat American wife living here in Gr. Manchester, who not only comes from the most highly read and knowledgeable family I've ever known, but is herself a paid and published author. The ineptitude of the '70s UK schooling system drained out of me any possible enjoyment of everything from Shakespeare to the Bronte sisters to Tolkien!!! One piece of classic literature I read over and over again, mind, is Orwell's masterpiece 1984 (after which I then usually read, so as to cheer me up, a hilarious travel book by a local lad called Steven Primrose-Smith called No Place Like Home Thank God, a 22,000-mile bike ride through Europe). I'm still to see See folks? It's actually possible to have pleasant and amicable discourse in the online world. who would have thought that possible?
@bodsnvimto9 ай бұрын
@@oleggorky906 You quote from three excellent songs there, the latter in particular. (I'm a massive Beatles fan, and with apologies to Band on the Run, my favourite album of their solo careers is John's debut beyond his the avant-garde patch.) And I fully agree with the Airstrip One comments; natural leftie that I am, I spent that much of it looking over my right shoulder for oppression's arrival into society that I never saw it coming from my left. Or is that so-far to the left that it's nouveau fascist? As the working classes en masse have become less indoctrinated by man-made organised religion - the very antithesis of spirituality - so, we are now given the opiate and passive oppression of a steady diet of television, football and cheap booze with which to keep the sheeple from questioning the bigger picture (and I say that admittedly as a massive footy/City fan and someone hardly averse to a jar/vino or two). As for "Triv", some time ago, we were over in the US, and one night we were sat in a bar in Tampa, right next to one of those machines. I noted the fact that all night long, not one person playing it ever picked a subject other than Sport or Film and TV. You and indeed yours have a gud un too.

TOP NOTCH song A great year for music that was unlike all the rubbish thats sung and i say loosely sung today. Its amazing this song was made without the need to "bust a cap in your arse" Do a drive by shooting take or sell drugs to your home boys "slap your bitch up" or tell the world your gay to help your record sales. At least there is one good thing about the modern rap rubbish it wont be around in 30 years time unlike classics like this still are. Great video thanks.

B A Robertson spoke with a fake cockney accent when it was fashionable, then reverted back to a Glasgow accent when it became cool. He should never have used a cockney accent in the first place. It showed lack of confidence in his own culture.

I would like to apologise to all the B.A fans out there. And also B.A himself. I shouldnt knock him, who am I to knock B.A, good luck to him. I think I over reacted a little and for that I apologise. I still think the song is absolute shite, however, in 79 when this was out, pop music in general was absolute shite. Good on B.A for making a living out of writing drivel and getting paid for it, and I mean that with the utmost respect.
