B.C. declares provincial state of emergency amid wildfires

British Columbia Premier David Eby announced a provincial state of emergency at a news conference Friday. The announcement comes after a significant number of homes were destroyed by a fast-burning, "unpredictable" wildfire in the West Kelowna area.

@@WildberryAB it has been reported. I saw that on CTV, and Global reported on it as well. About 5% of fires have been connected to arson. And the majority of the big ones have been connected to lightning as storms can produce numerous fires. Large enough wildfires can produce their own storms that have no rain, just the lightning to start and wind to spread. The fires are being investigated and reported on. More fires are started from human negligence than arson.

I learned that the town of Logan Lake (outside Kamloops) had started an experimental program to protect the town in the summer of 2020. It Worked! Unfortunately now the problem is So Massive, it's almost impossible to stop. 😢

One would think of we started to reinvest and reintroduce proper forest management programs that were eneded years ago, with a focus on forest diodiversity and reintroduce controlled burns that over a manageable amount of time would result in a lot of this to be mitigated and controlled. At a minimum, the fires would be better contained and confined to less populated regions. Additionally, there are new, better technology and resources that can be used that I don't see being used here in Canada to fight these fires. One has to ask why? Maybe a letter by one or many to some of our elected officials and people in charge is warranted?

Disturb a known fire hazard that is a coniferous tree, aka turpentine bomb, outside the door and an individual is subject to payment of hefty fines and civil damages from court action. Better a town is reduced to ashes than to propose clearing away trees for a firebreak and be declared a denier with your career ruined.
