B/G Machine Head vs Sleight of Mind | Patreon Game | Swedish 1.5 MtG 93/94 |

Playing another Magic the Gathering Patreon Game on the channel and this time I am facing Anne Joldersma. He has challenged me for a game of Swedish 1.5. That means that you are not allowed to play with any restricted or banned cards. So that means no P9, or Mind Twists or any other restricted cards in this MtG match up!

I played a Sleight of Mind deck back in the day. It was my first real stab at a control deck that wasn’t really a prison deck aka Stasis deck. Loved to see it here.

@@TimmytheSorcerer I leaned into control more. I didn't have the Savannah Lions or even as many creatures as you are playing. You look like you are playing more of a midrange game with this build. I believe I increased the number of CoPs focusing on with 2 Red, 1 Green, and 1 Black. At some point I know I used Greater Realm of Preservation instead of CoP Red/Black but I think I was unhappy with it because of mana consumption. I was with you on 4 Sleight, 4 StP's, 4 Counterspells. I pretty sure I had at least 1 Cleanse (Legends card - Sorcery Destroy all Black Creatures in Play) - tried Martyr's Cry here but didn't like giving opponent card draw. I didn't play all four Disenchant, though I think it was at least 2 and I played Control Magic, because Blue. I definitely leaned on the Northern Paladin and White Knight but I also used Exorcist instead of Clone. At one point I went deep with Dream Coat and Skull of Orm but that was getting to fancy. I also tried to use Psychic Allergy as a finisher once control had been established but turns out that it is superfluous if you are attacking past their creatures and can't be touched by theirs. It is a really mana intensive deck when you lean into the CoP's more so my land count was higher and I used Sol Ring and Mana Vault. I also didn't include any Wards, I preferred counters and I always was a sucker for Power Sink, having never owned a Mana Drain back in the day. This is my rambling memory from the past and I hope it helps. I'll try to recreate a real decklist but the cards went through Fallen Empires and I continued to modify the deck into Ice Age. I also made a Magical Hack based version of this and then tried to merge them with less than wonderful results. Cheers to you for playing it though - brought back fun memories for me when I saw it.

I was just looking at some wonky/jank ideas lol. Dingus geddon, ankh of mishra with a bunch of fellwar stones, lands edge/tax, another deck with Mana barbs/stasis. I don't know I don't even have all the cards necessary to try these lol. When my mind is more clear and I'm rested I'll see if I can think of exactly what deck I had in mind earlier

9:20 "what card could save me here" my entire office would have heard my "woooooo!" if you were holding a holy day in hand! I want to see more fog/holy day/darkness played! how often would it save you? give you the game? not exactly a 1 mana time walk, but give it some credit people!

Playing white is though, i'll order armagedons to try combos with piramids, consacrate land and land tax.

White is actually a super string colour in old school with top removal such as Swords and Disenchant, but my slight of mind deck def needs some tweaking :)

Hi Guilaume, we played without restricted cards. The nice thing about these Patron matches is that the Patron gets to decide the rule set. In this match Anne decided to play Swedish 1.5, which means playing without restricted cards such as the P9 and cards like Balance and Mind Twist.

It’s just this one match. It’s a variant on normal Swedish rules. I believe they call it Swedish 1.5. We do play with power in the other games. 👍
