The Bunun tribe is the most common indigenous group in Taiwan to use polyphonic singing, completely overthrowing the theory held by Western scholars that music originated from monophonic sounds. Their most famous song is the "Prayer for a Bountiful Harvest of Millet." The Bunun people believe that the better the singing, the happier the gods will be, bringing a bountiful harvest of millet. When the singing reaches a certain level, eight different scales can be heard; hence also called "Octaphonic Polyphony."
Today, the Bunun tribe is facing a crisis of declining traditional culture and has undertaken efforts to protect and preserve their cultural heritage. This film is the world's first work on the theme of Octaphonic Polyphony, recorded in multi-channel sound tracks and filmed in HDR high definition. The film features Bunun people of all ages singing around a campfire, interwoven with beautiful scenery such as mountain forests, starry skies, and Bunun totems. The aim is to preserve Taiwan's precious cultural content and present it in a visually stunning way using AUO ALED's cutting-edge imaging technology.
