There's something very special about the Kindertotenlieder and Ferrier's singing of it. It's quite without parallel in all of music that I have experienced.

I have always loved this Ferrier / Walter / VPO version of Mahler's Kindertotenlieder. There is a depth of grief and emotion which makes it very special indeed, but there is also a sense of hope that the children are now at rest in a better world.

¡Desgarrador!

Stunning. Sometimes sublimely beautiful art arises from tragedy.

What I am loving here is that I see literally ZERO negative comments about Kathleen Ferrier. Every singer has fans and detractors, except Ferrier, who lacks the latter entirely.

Being Ferrier, that's not given to everybody! Deep, she is... Very evocative and psychologic... Here we can see two very profound artists fusionnig: both very warm, almost nostalgic... That's why Walter is different to Klemperer, he is more romantic, though not easily charming... The solo violin at 15:38 is, among with every other walter musician solo, typic of Walter's way of thinking...

» (Sic Wiki.)

@@agnespellier9515 Mahler lost a number of siblings when he was a child, especially a beloved brother - and I think that's what this cycle is about. He wrote some of the songs before he ever met Alma, if I remember correctly.
