There is a pretty good practice: find an audio, and try to respet after a sleeker one second later at least, non stop. The magic happens when you repeat the same audio several times.. and about the 7-10 age threshold - spies train whithin a year any language and no accent..

Yes, shadowing is really helpful and fun to do as well 🥰 As for the spy training, I don’t think we can compare and average language learner to spy training but sure, possible 😄 And that was exactly my point too that unless you’re a spy, it doesn’t really matter if you have an accent as long as what you’re saying is understandable 🥰

This has been baffling to me in my Hungarian language learning journey. Many, many times people will just jump in and correct my pronunciation without even listening to what I'm saying. As a native English speaker I'm used to hearing all kinds of accents, so correcting someone doesn't even occur to me. It's the context that counts. But I think many Hungarians are not used to this, or they dislike hearing their language spoken badly. At any rate, it's really shaken my self-confidence for sure.

I’m so sorry you had bad experience:( I’d like to think it depends on the people and that it’s possible to find the right people who concentrate on what you say and not how you say it. There’s plenty of different accents in the US as well and I had the same experience many times as you did :( But I also found my own people with time 🥰 Don’t give up 🥺💜 It’s the best feeling ever when you finally find them!

I think they just wanna help you to improve your pronunciation, but didn't think through the delivery. I personally don't care about accents if I get the information. Ps: posh Hungarians think their own pronunciation is perfect, and don't respect dialects.

I can relate to your experience, but it is interesting that many Hungarians, including teachers, are not aware of the varieties of Hungarian pronunciation.

because people are jealous of your skill and all the hours you put in into the target language, so in order to feel better themselves, they try to find something that belittles your skill, and this is the most obvious thing they can find: accent.

It could be the case sometimes, I’m not sure. What I experienced was rather lack of empathy and being uneducated about how language learning works. We’re also conditioned to rather share our opinions about something than asking questions.

Én egyetértek veled. Nekem is a kommunikáció a legfontosabb a nyelv tanulásban. Én szeretem a saját akcentusomat amikor idegen nyelv beszélek. Én nem vagyok anyanyelvi és nem is szeretnék lenni egy anyanyelvi. Csak akarok beszélni, mint magam, nem akarok beszélni, mint egy anyanyelvi. 😎

Szia Sziszi!☺ I think that at restaurants they 100% understand what You say....it's just they can't believe someone is really ordering water, because everyone drinks soda or beer there..!😂Just kidding.🙃 I wanted to say that in my opinion accent is not that crucial: people even love foreign accents. But 'ACCENTS' in the sense of stress, emphasis on syllables...those are truly important!🙂🧐 Például: my English pronunciation is quite good (although i sound like Davie 504), but...actually native speakers never care about that. Instead I remember a few times when i emphasized the wrong syllable on certai words...and that led to misunderstandings, and/or embarassment on my end.🙂 That's actually what makes me feel ashamed the most: when I pronounce a word putting the accent on the wrong syllable🤦....when i realise later, it always makes me feel like a stupid.😅 Once (like 5 years ago) an English customer on the phone even corrected real time my accent on the wrong syllable...I remember the word was "procedure"😄, and...that was one of the most embarassing moments of my customer care experience.😑😂

Szia Michele! Thanks for sharing your opinion and experience :) Omg, I feel you! Where to put the stress within a word is the hardest for me too in English and struggle with it sometimes. I totally understand how saying that word wrong must have felt. I have two similar situations my brain refuses to forget :D

I've had a feedback about my French multiple times that I've had no accent and it is flattering 😊 Hungarian speaking foreigners, keep going as I repeat to everyone all the time, Hungarians are not used to foreigners speaking their language. But they really understand even if you use the wrong verb but show what you mean 😅 I experienced it last weekend when a bunch of family members in a village communicated with their Belgian cousin, with HU origins. Yes, they smiled a lot when the Belgian wanted to say something but used the wrong word even but they went on in the discussion. So way to go!!!🎉🎉

That's so cool 🥰 So you could be a real spy 🕵🏼 Thanks for sharing your recent experience it was so nice to read! That's the best thing native speakers can do. To focus on what you are saying not how you are saying it.

Hungarians are used to foreigners speaking their language. That is a terrible excuse to claim they are not. This excuse is just as bad as blaming things on Trianon, Socialism, liberals, Brussels, Soros, immigration, the cold front and the warm front lol. Plenty of people along the borders speak Hungarian (and I am not speaking about ethnic Hungarians here), plenty of foreign workers and immigrants also speak Hungarian. Btw - everybody has an accent, but not everybody has an ear for them.

A magyarok általában utálják az idegen akcentust, és erős magyar akcentussal folytatják a beszélgetést angolul vagy németül.

I wonder in which language you said you usually have to order water multiple times in order to be understood. In Spanish, I guess? It must be the same thing with me asking for két doboz tejet and always being asked: kettő? I wonder why they do that, just to make sure i do not mean hét?
@HungarianwithSziszi
@HungarianwithSziszi 24 күн бұрын
In the video I was thinking of saying it in English but you're right :D I actually experienced the same in Spanish too a few times and 'agua' is not my favorite word either :D Your example is interesting too. Before reading your last sentence my thoughts were exactly the same that they probably ask back to make sure you didn't say 'hét'. That'd be my guess as well :) Thanks for watching!

I'm for correct pronunciation. I'm not for native accents. Even worse, some people try to mimic some specific accents, in order to sound like a real native, and as a result they end up with strong accents which make communication difficult sometimes. I don't think it makes any sense to hear a Chinese man speaking perfect Londoner Cockney accent, or whatever. You can speak foreign languages perfectly, with nearly perfect pronunciation, and yet have an accent. There is nothing wrong with that.
