So, this song didn't catch my ear at first, but the more I heard it, the more I started to appreciate it. For one, it's a beautiful, smooth composition, rich with flavour and complexity, but easy on the ears. What really got to me though were the lyrics. Each verse changes the meaning of the chorus, leading up to that fucking tearjerker finale. The first time we float away it's a carefree childhood sweetheart romance. The second a soldier is going off to war. The final time... I lost two grand fathers to degenerative mental diseases. On alzheimers, the other dementia. Yeah. That last verse before the final chorus hits hard, and recognizing that is what made me keep re-listening to the song. So, thanks. For reminding me. You did good work.

"You're everything I know, I'm afraid of what I can't control...but now I have to let you go." Even if these lines were written quite a long time ago, it spoke for me. Just hit me right in the feels. This is the work of a storyteller. Thanks for this Nate. I appreciate it. :D

I find everything is dominated by the verse about her losing all her memories. Where "float away" begins by being a sort of call to freedom and spontaneity, it ends in a much different and far darker context discordant with the light vocals. It even calls to question the sincerity of the singer-character, since there's so little difference between the message before and after the delivery from the doctor. Where before the idea of floating away was one of liberation, the complete loss after is profound. And the way the vocals stayed the same was unsettling, haunting.

This is such a beautiful song honestly one of my faves (although I love everything you make) I shared it with a lot of my friends and they loved it ! I feel like most people don't read the lyrics on this song, or pay close attention. This reminds me way too much of what it felt like losing people in my own life. The snapshots of memory where you make decisions that end up separating you for a while. And then they're gone, forever. Damnit, Nate. I'm torn between swatting you for making me cry, and asking... What happened?
@bashingminds75398 жыл бұрын
And since I didn't mention it before... That little swap from "We'll be okay" to "I'll be okay" in the final bars of the song, signalling that the singer is no longer saying "It will be okay" and is instead saying "I will someday recover", meant everything to me.

no no CRUNCH story of my life... I like this new style of music. You've got some serious talent with this genre, and it stands out not only for the change in genre, but also for its production values. The vocal effects are particularly ear-catching, and boost your already-velvet-smooth vocals into "mesmerizing-land". I like. Very good work on the lyrics too. The triplets give strength, not only to the "message" but also to the rhythm of the song. The last section of the lyrics is definitely a unique take on describing losing "self" to age, and I believe this sort of approach can do some genuine good in helping someone come to terms with this sort of challenge (in themselves, or in people close to them). I also like the "whole life" theme. Til death do us part? In sickness and in health? It's all here in your lyrics. I'm looking forward to more like this. As far as I'm concerned, this stands shoulder-to-shoulder with "Lucky Man" and "Cats In The Cradle" as songs of a life-arc.

A mellow beat set with some heavy themes. What is the nature of floating but one that lacks control? Sometimes easy, come and go, but impossible to resist the flow. It sometimes feels like fate, but isn't that just more to hate. From kids to adult it can be an iron hierarchy, take you far away leaves you melancholy, even when you rise to the service that you choose, you never know what you will lose, and isn't that just pain? You can't control the rain. The imagery infers a love that is old, but with illness leaves you cold. Tragedy unfolds. The message echoes bold. The memories that you share, just how much you care, it takes and leaves them bare. When you know that it is coming, and they are scared that they'll forget, to their hands you keep on holding, so they never feel regret. Because it is all you can do. Try not to float away, for loss of yesterday, you can only find a way, in living in today. Not in future or tomorrows, desire that and it will leave you harrowed, but living here and now, in the waves somehow, even when its stormy you can float away. This is rough stuff. Alzheimer's! Gosh! Hits me right in the bricks! I am a bit conflicted with this song, as I happened to be among the buoyantly impaired being brick and all.
