That finale with the NYC cops and firefighters is awesome! What a tribute/payback to Daltry and Townshend who rocked them at the Concert for New York City post 9/11. Payback, in this case, is rich! Love them all

Joan you are so right. That was probably one of the best Thank You's NYs Finest & Bravest, NYPD, FDNY ,along with Rob Thomas, could have ever done for Roger and Pete. I found this off of one of the comments from that NYC Concert for the 9/11 tribute at MSG. That 27 minute set by the WHO was unforgettable as was this incredible and heartwarming ode. Well done on both sets.

I don't think Roger and Pete were 'scared' or disgusting any performance. In fact, they maybe be honored and touched to watch the efforts of all those young people who could be their sons playing and singing their songs, one generation after. They're proud and touched with all of them. Obviously they know no one can sing and play those songs like they did and do, just them, The Who. This conversation here is nonsense and ridiculous.

it's cool seeing people hear their own music played back to them, idk why so many of the tribute shows use this gym rat drummer, the drumming is cheesy, studio session guys always ad their stupid little bits, flair instead of being about the song. The Swamperd were sick tho

OMG!!! That is hilarious! to watch the expressions on their faces, and that oone older lady right near the start. Roger's both wondering what the fuck he was foing there, then bored because he can't be on the stage.Pete looks like a a European Prince just stares around like how stupide can these people be. Then, hey, this cooland started playing at being a prince I think he was having a great time pretending to be big slighty dotty English Lord.

"So, we're honoring The Who. We gotta get somebody who exemplifies rock -- we need a great rock voice, a great rock talent." "Oh, I know -- let's get Rob Thomas of Matchbox 20..." said no one ever. :'( Well, except for the director of this tribute, apparently.

Agree. But he did a decent job.
@lemmh28 жыл бұрын
I don't necessarily disagree. But, actually being a fan of Matchbox 20, I believe Rob's voice is more cut out for that pop-appeal softer rock stuff where he can get away with mumbling to barely adequate instruments playing.

Baba O'Riley in the key of D? C'mon... if you're not going to do it in F, at least shoot for E. As another poster said, it loses all impact when it is played and sung this low. A relatively young singer having to scream in order to hit an A4 (I "FIGHT" for my meals) is a bit lame. His delivery of the bridge totally sucks, too. Why does he need falsetto for it and why are his breaks so obvious? Most bar band singers have better falsetto! The firefighters and cops totally saved this performance!

I should add that in seven years I've grown a little (LOL) and probably wouldn't roast this so harshly today. Still, Baba O'Riley needs an all-out vocal performance that verges on the edge of destruction and Rob Thomas just isn't the singer to deliver that. He's great at what he does, but even by dropping the key a minor third, he just wasn't the right singer for this song.

go WTF yourself. Rob may be talented, but he's pop, not a rocker. Sure, he was popular in the 90s, but what's he done since? His Matchbox 20 glory days are long gone.
@baconbash77959 жыл бұрын
+Louie Neira He's done both pop and rock; MB20's More Than You Think You are was definitely a rock album, one of the lead singles was even co-written with Mick Jagger. But I'm sure The Rolling Stones aren't rock either then, are they? Since the 90's, he's sold over 7 million albums (not counting any post-2000 sales for Yourself or Someone Like You), and Matchbox 20's newest album was their first to top the Billboard 200, so they're still doing pretty good today.
@LouieNeira9 жыл бұрын
Actually, the Stones, like the Who, were heavily influenced by Blues music, so technically they weren't rock either. The Who even called themselves an R&B band.
