When taken as a sequel to Babe, this movie is out of control. But when you remember it's written and directed by the same man who made the Mad Max films, it makes perfect sense.

Earlier this year, I revisited the first Babe for the first time in probably two decades. Realising that I'd never actually seen the sequel, I decided to give it a try. It genuinely is one of the most puzzling movies I've ever seen. It was so much darker, so much sadder, so much weirder... and yet it also had much more focus on slapstick and goofiness. It is a perfect example of a sequel that's so distant from its predecessor that the two movies may as well not be related at all. I've done some research on what other people think of it and it really is one of those movies that you either love or hate. Some think it's awful and others think it's an underrated gem. I personally am more on the "Hate" side of things. Definitely not a movie that I enjoyed. But it just goes to show that we're all different. What's terrible to one person is amazing to another. And by the way... why does Esme now have a Scottish accent!? What's the point of that!?

I like this one, it's a strange dark surrealist children's movie. Its like the Wizard of Oz, but Dorothy is played by a pig. And takes a familar setting to the audience and turns it into a twisted hellscape. It's such a bold choice for a sequel not to try rehash the previous story and make something completely out of left field

About the atmosphere of the movie: it was directed by George Miller. His most known films are the Mad Max quadrilogy.

I sure did grow-up with "Babe Pig In The City" because I was born in 1998 the very same year when the movie came out so I'm very happy you enjoyed this amazing sequel. You enjoyed the ballroom climax and by the way if you like to know about the stunt actress who did bungee Esme Hoggett jump her named is 'Melody Sorensen'.

"That'll do, pig. That'll do." I make it a point to eat a pork dinner after each time I watch this movie. 🐷 Fun Fact: The ape named "Thelonious" is a reference to the jazz pianist, Thelonious Monk. Hollywood Accountability Fact: The box office failure of this and the equally expensive Meet Joe Black (1998) led to the resignation of then Universal head Casey Silver. Lore Connection Fact: When Babe enters the hospital where his animal friends are locked up, he's accompanied by a duck, a monkey and a dog. A bird, a monkey and a dog are the traditional companions of Momotaro in a Japanese folk tale, in which Momotaro (Peach Boy) travels to the Island of Demons and subdues them.

Well, Mickey Rooney's roles in this movie and "Breakfast at Tiffany's" aren't his best. (Edit: He had much better ones earlier in his career). That is the Clown and the Japanese neighbor in Breakfast.

It's a movie love. It's all fake. They wouldn't get away with releasing it if it was real (A long time ago maybe but certainly not as recent as the late 90's).

I realize this particular thing is a movie, but it reminded me of how some humans actually treat animals in real life and that's what upset me.
@augustojacquier6 ай бұрын
@@katreacts6843 That's literally the point of the movie. The city corrupts, and humans ruin everything they touch. Every animal who lives in the city is untrustworthy, cynical, and borderline evil. Miller's filmography is filled with concerns about societal and environmental collapse. Decisions made around how animal cruelty is portrayed are not casual: they're the very point the movie's trying to make.

@@obscuramask7435 then those are not films that I will watch because seeing a dog nearly drown and humans capturing animals to bring to a lab, is enough reminder for me that this is only a mild version of how some humans actually treat animals in real life.
