Baby Bird Chokes and Suffocates in Nest 😭😭

This baby cowbird unfortunately was overfed which caused the chick to choke and suffocate. Death due to choking is a risk all baby birds face when they are very young.

Sometimes bird have to keep cuckoo and cowbird alive and feed them only because to keep their family alive. So when you see a bird taking care a baby cuckoo or cowbird there they more likely know, but have to deal with sadly.

As the cowbird chick becomes increasingly more anxious and panicked the mom and dad take it as cue that the chick wants more feed. As the clip continues you can see the large obstruction become more hardened as the chick is only able to drink the fluids in the crop. At the end the chick mouth and throat is so stuffed a d the chick is unable to close its mouth

The "mom" was actually putting more food in. This species of bird makes an open mouth when it wants more food. The cowbird chick lacks a crop which is how these birds feed their chicks. The mother cowbird selected an incapable host nest for her egg.

But why? I can't really understand all this hate in these comments just because they are brood parasites. That's just nature. Do you also hate storks for killing their weakest chicks, sometimes even eating them or throwing them out the nest, still alive? Do you hate Pelicans or certain eagle species for letting their stronger chick kill their sibling? Do you hate crows or Eurasian & Blue Jays for sometimes eating other birds eggs and chicks? And as far as I know these kinds of bird are not usually endangering the conservation of the birds they parasite off. So why the serious hate?

I have no issue with pelicans or eagles killing their siblings, because that is survival of the fittest. I do not hate jays for eating other birds because that is survival of the fittest. Cuckoos and cowbirds kill for the sake of it and have nothing to do with survival of the fittest. They are cowards who leech off of more capable birds because they are the weakest that are meant to be weeded out. Parents coming back and killing the host's biological chicks do not benefit them in any way but they do it anyway because they are just evil birds.

The parasite bird constantly and aggressively begs for food so long as the parents will feed it. They will beg and attempt to eat even if they are so full they can no longer swallow. It is how they out compete the nest. Problem is when the parents are well sourced for food and regurgitate feed it, they'll keep feeding, it'll keep begging.

It's not only greed, but this is a cowbird chick. Cowbirds lay their eggs in other bird's nests. This was a finch nest. This happens every time a cowbird chooses a finch as a host target. The cowbird needs to be fed insects, but the finch feeds its young by filling their crops with seed paste. Cowbirds lack a crop, so it leads to this. Unfortunately, the mother cowbird returned to wreck this finch's nest and eggs. Cuckoo do the same thing as cowbirds but are worse. Their hatchlings off the eggs and hatchlings of the host bird on top of this.

It's because of the species. The baby is a cowbird who shouldn't have been in that finch nest in the first place. Luckily, this is what happens when cowbirds lay their eggs in a finch nest since the cowbird needs to be fed insects. The finch feeds it's young seed paste. That requires a crop that the cowbird lacks leading to this. It's more humane for people to remove cowbird eggs from finch nests, but there's a law against this.
