They were also transferring that stuff to sand dunes about a mile from the base. There were homes that were later built there that eventually had to be evacuated and torn down. It makes you wonder how many lives have been destroyed by our military. Not just in war but at home too. How can they be justly compensated when their babies were discarded like they didn't even ever exist or matter. Thrown away like garbage. It's beyond maddening and they deserve so, so much better. Boiling water for drinking will not reduce PFAS exposures. It will concentrate (increase the level of) these chemicals in the boiled water. - PFAS Contamination of Water: Department of Health : Rhode Island Dept Health
@eyeswideopen33047 ай бұрын
so why is it that the air force could not have filtered the drinking water in an appropriate manner....the following question/answer from EPA dot gov: Is it possible to filter PFAS from water? One common method for treating drinking water is Granular Activated Carbon (GAC). This method is used by many public water utilities because it is highly effective at removing a range of drinking water contaminants, including some PFAS......it is possible so why did they NOT do it....almost like the poisonings were quite deliberate, somehow these chemicals made their way in drinking water, they were aware, people were being harmed, and yet were not even informed, they took no steps to rectify only coverup.
@eyeswideopen33047 ай бұрын
from Oregon dot gov : Don't boil the water! There is no evidence that boiling removes trichloroethylene and boiling water may increase risk of breathing in trichloroethylene in contaminated steam.
@eyeswideopen33047 ай бұрын
and if it is the steam it would settle on surfaces as a residue....contamination when surfaces touched...from Minnesota Dept Health: How to remove TCE from water? Activated carbon filtration can remove TCE from drinking water effectively. There are two type of filters: systems that treat water for a sink or refrigerator (point-of-use filter) and those that treat all water entering the home (whole-house filter)

As the sister of a Marine who was stationed at Camp LeJeune, I am literally sick to my stomach right now. I want to address all my sister military wives, had we been given orders to Camp Lejeune instead of NAS/JAX ~This could have easily been our story. We are taught as military wives to support & not to question our husbands commanding officers. They could literally get reprimanded if we did. So we are left to trust the very ones who were intentionally lying about our safety at home while our husbands gave their very FREEDOM to protect everyone back home. TRULY SHAMEFUL. PEOPLE MUST BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE!!! Suing may help financially, especially to the lawyers who take more then they should.. Developing fetus’ are often hypersensitive to such toxins, especially during certain organ development early on. The earlier the exposure, the more systems are affected. Like for the adults, the children exposed (in utero &/or during childhood) have a significant risk of developing certain cancers. No one escapes the toxic exposure, it just doesn’t manifest itself so obviously but health conditions other than cancer are possible.
@deltalimabravo67277 ай бұрын
Good question, it’s one way understanding the complex causes of various conditions can be hard to explain especially when such exposures are hidden/unknown. It really aggravates me how many times people have been exposed to various toxic chemicals and those who knew better and responsible did nothing about it or some cases on purpose (Tuskegee, radiation exposure (civilians & military)

My youngest brother was a year old the first time we lived there and ended up dying of leukemia when he was 11. We think now that he was susceptible to the toxins because his immune system had not yet fully developed when we first lived there. My parents continued to live in the Jacksonville area after my dad's retirement so they were aware of the "possibility" of the water being responsible for my brother's death. I'll never forget the tears in my dad's eyes when he realized what caused the leukemia...he felt guilty for having his family live on base.

What an appalling and heartbreaking episode in our history. I think of these mothers living with their grief and guilt (for circumstances beyond their control), and I think of the authoritarian military system and the military men of rank who failed to protect and defend the soldiers in their charge and their families for decades. These men of rank were protected by privilege and power. And silence. I’m grateful for every person named (and unnamed) who fought for accountability and justice for so many decades. I can’t help but wonder about their failure to defend unborn life, or to defend a woman’s right to prenatal care. Are these same men and men like them now criminalizing a woman’s right to life-saving reproductive care? Are they demanding a woman carry a dead or unviable fetus to term in the name of the sanctity of life regardless of the threat to the mother’s own life? Clearly, these mothers and their children weren’t protected. What does it say that white babies’ graves were marked while black babies were ‘never recorded’? Racism. Misogyny. Power. Privilege. We have to listen and to work for justice as these heroes did. It’s work we can’t do without the tools of democracy.

So terrible for the men and women who suffer from this act of deliberate evil! Let me say it since may won’t: THE BLACK BABIES WERE TRASHED😢 Maybe the organs were used, if possible….

My cousin passed last week. She was a Camp Legeune baby and fought cancer her entire life. Born in 1976.

Heartbreaking. And to think, i know women in their early 30's, currently, that have served and are dealing with these type unfortunate, life changing, loses. Righ down to the undeveloped body organ and numerous other disabilities that the child would not survive. Im speechless.

I served at Camp Lejeune the entire year of 1975 (January thru December) and remember complaining to my NCO that the water from the drinking fountain tasted bad. The southern corporal knowing that I came from Detroit, Michigan replied "that's because you're used to Yankee water".

They should have a remembrance wall for those who don’t have a headstone and benches to rest and reflect.
