The suggestive nature of the lyrics about a man convincing a woman to stay with him in his house rather than leave in the middle of a snowstorm, and possibly giving her alcohol - hence the line, "Say, what's in this drink?" - has led many to call this song the "Christmas date-rape" song. It's ridiculous, I know. But people have been saying this about the song long before this GAP commercial.

Anything is open to interpretation. This is particularly true and quite frankly, speaking as a songwriter myself, that's half the fun. An artist doesn't paint a piece and start explaining what that piece symbolizes, they just create the art and people are free to interpret it as whatever the fuck they want. One notion I've always agreed with is it isn't the artist that validates the art, it's the AUDIENCE. Let people have the freedom to read whatever they want into this.
