I think it is amazing that monkeys will adopt abandoned baby monkey. However, my pit bull adopted an abandoned kitten. Just shows how good animals can be.

You have so much trouble bathing the little ones when they have been sleeping in poo - and then all of a sudden... the pool party is irresistible! 😆 Lots of open-mouthed 'play faces' in this episode which are always fun to see. Dave's commentary, as always, mixes great new info about vervet psychology and social structures, with deep knowledge about their behaviour and his really kind humour. I love hearing about what is known about their individual histories and how you address an individual's difficulties. Great episode. Thanks++

I just have to mention this. was at the drugstore earlier looking for some type of talcum powder. I noticed a new product right next to the baby powder. it has a cartoonish baby monkey on the front, with a pacifier, and wearing a diaper, and it's called Anti Baby Monkey Butt Powder. it is supposed to relieve itching, there is Calamine in the powder. interesting name they chose. 🤭🐒🤗

Congratulations on 50,000. Love, love this episode. Seeing all the babies and how well they are all doing. Zayda was so cute carrying around her blanket. Glad you let her keep it for comfort. The Robert juveniles are sooo full of energy. They bounce around like they are on springs 🤣. I noticed that Yolando's hand still bends inward. Is the physical therapy helping it at all? Poor baby. We can now see how a ‘fresh’ baby looks (the facial coloring & its fur) and how you know the age of the orphans. It will be a fabulous opportunity to see a Vervet mum raise her baby and witness what the orphans lose (the constant love & comfort of a mum) when they become orphans. The babies are so lucky to have the VMF to give them a chance at a happy life.

I loved the little pool for the Robert group! I don't know if you have "vocational" schools in your area but our local vocational (hands on training rather than strictly book learning) stools volunteered at one of our local nature preserves and the landscaping, architecture, horticulture, and waterscape students built a really awesome "River/Stream" feature, with pools for the animals. If you have some type of programs like that near the VMF it would be great to have some type of water feature for the troops!

It never occurred to me before to ask: with such a heavy "caseload" of orphans do you have to do some serious planning of which babies to put together and who is a serious contender for which troop? I can almost imagine walls covered with large charts of babies' photos, pictures of enclosures, and numerous arrows.

Thank you for another amazing video! Does anybody know if only the boys are "fixed"- or if the girls and boys are both sterilized? And if so, do you have to recapture the orphans when they are bigger to sterilize them- or can you do it before they are released? Ah so many questions! Thank you so much for educating us, and showing us how truly complicated it is to balance orphan introductions with the many personalities of each troop. I am also wondering- why can't you introduce babies with the natural baby? Will they turn on the orphan? I guess I don't understand, even though I have been watching you guys for years. It just shows you how there are so many subtleties and nuances to monkey society. I still don't understand how you know every single monkey and their personality! It just blows me away every time. You guys are the best. I can't wait until I can come and volunteer someday (it is in the five year plan, once my daughter is old enough to come with me). Thank you!!

@@frederickraveney9589 well, that may be true when you're talking about those poor starving children that have little to no food. But, these monkeys are very well fed & cared for. After baby monkeys eat, especially their milk, their bellies protrude. Do your homework before you start saying things you don't know anything about! VMF is a sanctuary/rehabilitation facility that goes above and beyond to take care for all of the orphans & adult monkeys that come to their sanctuary plus, the monkeys that already live in that forest. They give those babies a 2nd chance at life by finding a foster mom for them with a troop & friends. They get to be a happy monkey again.

Sky King first appeared in Season 5, Episode 19, aired on 3 March 2022. He was #22, was moved quickly into Disneyland, and was warmly welcome. He is highly sociable. He appears again in Season 5, episode 21.

The "Bandits" are the monkeys whose troop surrounds the Vervet Monkey Foundation. They live a totally natural life, in that they do their own foraging, and have their own babies: they are not part of the rescue and foster program. Some time back there was a bandit female who was badly injured and showed up under the bed of one of the volunteers. She was given treatment. At the time Dave said--and this is my paraphrase--"As humans we feel a responsibility to help animals who have been harmed by humans." A wonderful philosophy, and thank you, Dave.

I've watched videos of Macaques who live at the Cambodia temples & horrible how people will keep babies to make videos until they aren't little & cute anymore & then will just dump them back in the wild, but will often see the abandoned ones carrying a towel or blanket & is just like you said, as being the only form of security they have!
