@@diggerdan4661 I think people have really overreacted quite a bit over the last few years because of all of the media drama AND the various political issues which have caused people to assume the VERY WORSE and to go against each other. I live in the United States as well (Utah) and as of right now, November 2O22 I can say with certainty that we're all still here, we're alive and well.... things are definitely more expensive but we're surviving just fine. You can't always believe the hype. 🙂 But on the other hand, look how adorable these baby monkeys are and how wonderfully amazing the volunteers are!!! 🌎 ✌️ ~ONE LOVE~ 💕🥰

As with all, this video is thoroughly engaging. I enjoyed following different members of the troops and observing their reactions in different situations. Just look at Gimli now!!! What a success story thanks to your indefatigable devotion, 24/7. As we come upon the new year of 2022, I pray that resources will become more fluid and abundant for the foundation. May God bless you all for what you do not just for the monkeys, but for all who watch these videos that are so uplifting. Many thanks to all of you.❤

@Big Nick Digger IV You really should watch even one episode. What they do is very obvious. They have rescued almost 600 monkeys over the years. They get the babies adopted with a foster mom. Then the pair move back out into a troop. They are nothing like the other so and sos. This organization treats these monkeys with care and kindness like they are special guests. There is an episode this year that shows a recap of baby Gimli. Search that one out and watch it. The link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/b56rpJiofd6qqK8

I've been watching your videos for the last couple years and it is truly special what you all do for these monkeys and how the program works. I only wish I could volunteer for an extended period and be apart of it and learn more. Everytime I hear how short staffed you are it breaks my heart and makes me want to jump on a plane and I probably would if I was 15 years younger and had 5 less kids! Maybe in a few years me and my oldest will plan a trip so we can both volunteer for a couple months. It would be an amazing experience for both of us! God Bless ❤️🐒

Around 12:22 there is a grooming session going on. The groomer is doing this odd thing with its mouth. Looks like it is sticking its tongue out and smacking lips. What is that about. What does it mean? I have heard the care givers talking about lip smacking and about "the eyebrow" thing. Curious about everything about these fellow members on our planet. Thanks so much for each of you and for all that you do. I sometimes blip through some of the pet videos coming out of Asia, and my heart just hurts for how those babies are being treated and how poorly they are cared for. I keep watching what you feed the monkeys at the foundation. I would gladly exist on the foods they get. I know it cost a lot to feed so many and to feed them well. Again, thank to all of you for the efforts you expend helping these monkeys.
@peterhoward7530
@peterhoward7530 3 жыл бұрын
I'm just another viewer but I'll jump in and say that what you saw was definitely the lip smacking thing. It's a sign of friendly intentions and submission often seen when a lower ranking monkey wants to groom a higher ranking one. Sort of "Don't hurt me. I'm perfectly harmless." "The eyebrow thing" is a warning that someone should back off and the eyebrower is right onto them. Saw a great example of it in a video just the other day when a whole lot of Bandits were having a noisy altercation through the fence with a whole lot of enclosed monkeys. They were all lowering their bodies into a crouch with their backs flat and staring intently at the opposition while waggling their eyebrows up and down. They sometimes do it to the dogs Rocky and George too when they approach the fence. The monkeys in the noisy but bloodless fight were also standing up tall on their hind legs from time to time to show how big and fierce they were. In a vid from some time ago an alpha male was showing off to his girlfriends by fiercely eyebrowing a volunteer walking by outside the fence. The volunteer told him "Yes. You're very scary!" Easy to gently mock a big male monkey when there's a twelve foot fence between the two of you, lol. The monkey didn't know he was being mocked of course. Hope I have got all that right.

I do have a quick question, watching Kara reminded me of others that didn't keep their babies. Do the babies ever protest if a higher rank female wants to take them from their mother that adopted them in the integration? Basically, do the babies have any say or do they just have to learn to accept the new higher ranked female?

Good to catch a glimpse of Mrs Gold. A monkey mom in a million. I heard in another vid recently that she is aged in her late twenties. Is that right? She looks to be in prime condition. One thing about Vervets is that a casual viewer can't really tell their age. They don't get old and grey the way a dog does because they are grey to start with. Also a glimpse of the Bandit Hawk. Often to be seen around the intro enclosures. A couple of times I've seen her sitting right beside the volunteer observers helping with the observations. Is there any reason why she seems so comfortable around people? Has she been brought in at some time in her life for medical intervention or something?

Maybe Yelise is lucky enough to have a foster mum who is able to produce her own milk from Yelise’s suckling. I know it doesn’t bode well for your monitoring & record keeping but it should be more natural & beneficial for Yelise if that is the case. I know that every orphan of Mrs Gold’s suckles. I think it’s wonderful when the foster mums allow the babies to suckle whether for nutrition or comfort!
@pambaxter2643
@pambaxter2643 3 жыл бұрын
Darren, I don’t believe that Mrs. Gold is actually producing any milk for the baby. I think it’s just something she is tolerant of and perhaps that’s why the really young ones who seem to be the “super sucklers” latch on...for a lack of a better word! lol.. to her!
@Darrenbrown68
@Darrenbrown68 3 жыл бұрын
I’m not saying they are or aren’t but what if some or all of these 3 mums are lactating. 3 months is definitely a long enough time for a non-lactating mum to produce milk from the stimulation of the baby’s sucklin. Maybe they are confused b/c mum is feeding them fine. Baby is drinking plenty of milk from mum so they’re wondering what the problem…. is?

Just curious if the feeding (milk) cages are near the areas where food is put out? If not then maybe putting the feeding cages with possibly a water station on the outside of the feeding cages for adults - like a water bottle for a hamster/rabbit cage - would help the babies feel more comfortable moving away from the Mom's to go to the feeding cages. Like if the babies see the Mom's getting water from the cages remind them to go inside and drink their milk?!? Just a suggestion, hope it could help. 🤷 Good Luck, you do such a great service for these beautiful monkeys!
@VervetMonkey
@VervetMonkey 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you - monkey life and the heirarchy are very complicated, if you have other monkeys constantly at the feeding cage drinking water the baby will never get a chance to go in, so its close enough to where water and food is but not right on top

Maybe I will get another question answered which hasn't much to do with the current vid about Teo. I watched a vid from a little while ago about Vasectomy Day for half a dozen two and a half year old males. This was in Kyles time and he filmed the very interesting procedure with horrified fascination. It was interesting to see how effective the crush cage is in immobilizing a monkey for the sedation shot and the monkeys don't seem to be unduly upset by it. But how do you capture the candidates? After all, they don't come when they are called. If I was trying to figure it out I guess I'd put a crush cage with the door open near the feeding area with some especially delectable foodstuff inside. Then I suppose the alpha males would have first pick of the food. But what then? Does any male take precedence over the females or do the high ranking females and their progeny outrank any young male when it comes to feeding? Whatever, I foresee a lot of patient waiting by a volunteer holding the trapdoor rope until the right monkey is inside the cage. And a lot of the especially nice food consumed by the wrong monkeys. Obviously, Dave and the staff figured it all out long ago and I'd be interested to read the exact details.
@VervetMonkey
@VervetMonkey 3 жыл бұрын
you are quiet correct alot of man hours and time, we use the introcage first put food down and wait hopefully he comes in with some others and we slowly let each one out until only he is left, then we start with the trap cage
@peterhoward7530
@peterhoward7530 3 жыл бұрын
@@VervetMonkey Many thanks for explaining! I now understand how well the intro cage would work for the selection even if no babies are present. On intro days I've noticed the way interested foster mums usually head for the food bowl first and male monkeys of all ages come to the closed door begging to be let in. So they certainly associate the intro cage and human volunteer activity with the nicest kind of fresh food chopped up into bite-sized chunks.
