My record in the real machine is over 4 million. VPX new version of this machine imitates the real thing amazingly well. Here's some advanced playing tips for this great, underrated classic strategy/arcade game.

Arcade history has largely forgotten this very underrated game, which requires a lot of strategy to advance deeper in the mazes. Very enjoyable and challenging masterpiece.

Indeed this is an excellent reproduction. I played the real machine a LOT in my youth and I was developing this version as well. My high score in the real one was over 4 million and I think the difficulty level is quite on par in this version too. Cheers.

Not quite. The bumpers don't work properly and the ball physics is pretty bad, nothing like the real thing which I have access to and is what is forming my opinions. Still for emulation it's passable and better than nothing.

If the 1st link is enough to play the game on Visual Pinball X, then what is the purpose of the 2nd link (VPX+PinMAME)? And the 3rd link is the ROM file, but doesn't the 1st link come with the game already?

@@elvampe13 Thanks. No. You need BOTH Visual Pinball and PinMAME. Visual Pinball simulates the pinball part and PinMAME _emulates_ the ROM part. It uses genuine Bally ROMs and for that you need the emulator. They work together in symbiose. Good luck.

To say that I did not understand this game in its day would be an understatement (four minutes to safely beat the first level? really?). So I'm glad I'm able to see some serious gameplay on it on KZbin. The pinball half must have been a retro thing for veteran masters.

This is very underrated game that requires a lot of strategy to get through the mazes. My absolute favorite Pac-Man game. Same way underrated as Atari's Gravitar. The challenge and depth were way ahead of its time.

This is outstanding! I have always been curious about Baby Pac-Man and love playing it annually at the CA Extreme arcade convention, however I never get enough practice to really know how the mechanics of the game work. I see some of your strategies and they are very impressive, especially the hilarious tunnel speed! This pinball emulator does a great job showcasing the game as well. I cringed so hard at the death at 23:39, I was practically yelling earlier "GET IT! GET IT!" for the blue target in the middle, ugh that hurt so bad.

Thanks man. If you go through my videos you'll find out that I was an arcade games freak back in my youth. I mastered a LOT of games. But this is one of the most underrated masterpieces ever created. It's not just a Pac-Man game, it's a strategy-skill-tactics game and requires a lot of skill to learn. Funny thing is, my record in the real machine was about 4.5 million. I completed a lot more mazes than in this demonstration game on VPinMAME. And yes I was consulting with the authors of this table to make sure this plays as authentically as possible. I'll have to check them out. The only classic game I've mastered was probably Pole Position II. There's plenty I'm really great at (especially Gyruss & Galaxian), but not untouchable. I agree, I first read about Baby Pac-Man about 10 years ago and was shocked by how amazing & underrated it was. I love how you did twice as well on the real deal vs. MAME.

Great gameplay. You really mastered this one. The slingshots seem to be very weak, though. Is that on purpose to add more skill and decrease the amount of luck of this game? Not complaining, you played awesome, I am just curious if this is standard on these devices or if it is a change you did yourself.

Holding up one flipper to bounce it over to the other when the ball is coming down the fruits or tunnel lane doesn't work on every machine irl. I've played 4, 2 where it did and 2 where the gap between the ball guide and fat end of the flipper bat was too big and it would just bounce up off the rubber either down the drain or out of control.

I have played 4-5 real machines and it worked on every single of them. Some of them probably have adjusted flippers. I guess that'd be the easy way to increase difficulty. Cheers.

Great playing I miss this game. I really want to play this game again. When I was a kid I played it for a while then it broke and then they removed it and I never saw it again. It's much more visible than the real cabinet was! (I've often wondered: why did they use a lower spec computer for the screen portion? Was it just cost cutting, thinking we'd not notice)

Yeah but the Pac-Man game itself was very challenging and good. And they used cleverly those three mazes in the game. The walls got invisible and there was a lot of nice, ever changing color combinations when you advanced. It's been so long but I remember completing at least 20 mazes in the real game. I always loved this game, it had very special atmosphere and it was genuinely hard.

The video portion is powered by the same VDP as the Colecovision and MSX, and the audio is powered by a Motorola 6803 that still manages to run the Williams GWAVE engine that's originally meant for the higher spec 6808.

This is the hardest PacMan game and my least favorite game. It is hard to get just one power pellet let alone all four. If you don't have all four power pellets you are pretty much screwed. This Baby PacMan has a secret and that is you can save your power pellets to the next level. I have yet to see the level where the ghosts don't change at all

They probably never do in this game; because of the way the ghosts move, energizers are practically required just to navigate the maze safely. A point where the ghosts no longer turn would be an effective kill screen, since it would be virtually impossible to reach the upper half of the maze.

@@MisterVercetti That's big part of the fun. You really have to earn the power pellets in the pinball part. Not easy but doable as the video shows. There is a certain learning curve in this game. Not the easiest but that's why it has long term appeal. Cheers.

It seems like this game was a commercial failure for a few competing reasons, but one of the leading ones was that the electronics of the day were too unreliable, and the machine was out of order too often for arcade operators to keep it around. Does anyone else think that a machine like this could be successfully built today with the more reliable components we have available, and that it would have some success in the resurging arcade scene? We already have those real life pong machines popping up everywhere and pinball machines with screens and minor video interaction: something like this with full pinball/video game integration seems ripe to bust into that scene.

Yeah I extracted that photo and Photoshopped it dark. You can go to that image manager of the table on Visual Pinball and extract that particular background file... and then just open it with Photoshop. It's been years so I don't remember exactly but I recall it was easy.

Other people had issues with it but got it to work finally. Ask in the VPForums. They will advice. Are you sure you have the VPX program? Try playing with the DMD settings.

Hello, I've been trying to get this work all day today but no amount of fiddling with settings is solving my issue. I'm running the game through VPinballX, and that loads up the table just fine, but the video game part will sometimes be placed in a random position, or usually not be visible at all. I can hear that the game is running (usually) but cant actually see the game. Do you know how to fix this? Or at least how to put the table itself into a windowed mode so I can just drag the game over top of it?

I got it to work by pressing f1 after launching table and checking the "show DMD" box and unchecking the "use external DMD" box.

It's a bit complicated but you CAN get it work. Use Visual Pinball X (VPX) and newest PinMAME. Both have to be installed separately.

The pinball physics were like that when that particular version was released. I have no idea if the table has been updated since then. Those energizer settings are just dip switches in PinMAME. You can make them go away or not. It's a dip setting.

What do you mean? You can drag the PinMame screen with a mouse. I recall you had to check "use DMD border" or whatever to resize it to fit the background. If these won't work ask in the VP Forums and they'll help.
