You know I’ve been super excited about the potager garden. It would be great to take a photo from the same perspective over the development and do a sort of time lapse over the course of a year/years as it really comes into its own.

Cottage garden first step - PATHS. I have curved paths to open up my creativity. I have a circle bed for herbs. Just some easy first steps ideas. Have fun with it. I am just exactly the same way, THE GREAT STARTER....then getting hung up at the "perfect" stage. (I'm a fine artist and have over 30 paintings "started" in my studio right now. 2020 goals include finishing all started paintings and then going forward to finish every painting you start, before starting another one.)

I do the same thing. Last year was the first time that I just planted my garden the way I wanted. No rules. You said something in one of your videos that gave me a ah ah moment. You said the space needs to be appealing to you for you to enjoy it. So I made my garden appealing to me. It really changed things for me.

I came to you for the gardening tips, but I fell in love with you and how you teach. I don't think I'll ever be a homesteader (the most I'll ever do is grow a bunch of produce), but it's been really interesting seeing that lifestyle and there are always little things I end up learning. I will say, my favorite and most useful videos from you have been about how to save money doing things. The trellis ideas were fantastic, as well as your solo cup tips for seed starting. I'm recently out of college and still figuring out my life so there's not much money or room to go around for this sort of thing, but you've been a big help. I absolutely cannot wait to follow you and your journey through 2020 and beyond. Thanks for all you do.

I would enjoy a kind of do's and don'ts with building a chicken coop....I am trying to come up with a chicken coop/ green house concept. I am in MN, so build a small structure that would hold my 20 chickens by the house in the winter and when spring comes clean out all the winter compost they made for me, move them back out into the yard, and revamp it back into a green house....just brainstorming 😁

Your description of being a perfectionist in the garden resonates. It truly humbles me to be in my garden knowing that it has to grow and adapt at its own pace. Much like raising a child. It cannot be forced or rushed. Much as a well raised child, it will eventually exceed your initial vision. Such a glorious experience.

Yes, winter is definitely the time of rest from outside growing. Wise words :) Here we have four, super-smashed, jam-packed months to get everything done-from planting, growing, harvesting, building, repairing, etc. etc. Then it's getting winter-prepped. Then....rest. I love snowed-in days like we're getting right now (blizzard - foot of snow). It's the Lord's way of telling us to slow down, reprioritize, and calm our spirits as we await new life.

My idea is to not have it in rows and have some soft winding paths follow it through and is have a bench or two for little rest areas so you can sit and watch the bees and insects. Have you ever though about when u decide to move what plant materials along with yr animals u will take? So plan yr perennials and herbs u plant that u can take at least pieces of them to transplant on yr new establishment. Nice to mix yr small fruit shrubs like blueberries in those gardens too.!

I live in SE Louisiana, just north of New Orleans (Zone 8b) and I Love English cottage gardens. I finally realized I can't have one because I don't live in England! I'm in a fairly tropical climate. I'm 60 miles north of New Orleans with a big lake in between. Just that distance does not allow me to grow the tropical plants that one can have on the south side of the lake. We get 10 degrees colder in winter and that makes all the difference. The best I can do is mimic a cottage garden.

Hey Jess can you do a video about keeping the bees in the winter and some challenges you look to face. I'm in a much colder part of the world then you but any insight would be great. I've been wanting bees for awhile now and when I seen you guys get them I was just hooked in even more.
