Hello Shawn, I have found out th hard way, that in th drier times of summer, that mice will come over to th plants I have put into th ground, and bite th tops off, to get a drink of water, from th small plants. So, in those drier months, to avoid this reoccurring, I have place several aluminum pie pans with water, in different places in th garden. Then when these small animal want a drink, they don't attack these tiny fledgling plants, but go over to th water I have provided for them, to quench their thirst. And they left my small plants alone.

Hey Shawn, try planting Lavender as it is an excellent way to repel flies. Its smell wards away flies because they can not stand the scent of lavender. Using lavender-based soaps, oils, and scents will help repel flies and deter them from returning. You can place these in areas where flies frequent to repel them. Greetings from Bosnia!

Cottontails abound in my area, despite coyotes and foxes which keep the population under control - and this is in the city of Milwaukee, WI. The rabbits do not dig nests in my fenced in back yard, because my dog roams freely there, but they have dug many nests in my front yard over the past 11 years! I always walk the yard before mowing, to ensure that I do not run over a nest and kill the young ones.

I am watching from Australia Shawn. I have been watching your videos for a couple of years or more. Your lifestyle is one I dreamed of for myself since childhood. Its wonderful seeing how you do what you do and how well you do it. I also love watching people living in a natural environment with climatic conditions very different to ours. Climate change has been strongly felt here, particularly over the past two years. Summer, instead of being super hot and dry,(much like living in a fan forced oven if there’s a wind,) is now wet, wet, wet and not overly hot. Winter is also milder. I am in Australia’s Capitol City, Canberra. My garden has become tropical.

If you've been watching world news you might know we here on the Eastern Aussie coast have had one of the wettest seasons ever. I'm in SE Queensland and as of 3days ago, have now had 3x annual rainfall with another deluge coming over next 2days. So plenty of spare rain here. How much rain do you need and where do I send it? 😂 Am also happy to throw in free spare mozzie clouds if you want to feel at home 2wks early!! 🤣🤣 Because this area is subtropical verging on arid usually, I purchased southern blueberries 5yrs ago which I have to grow in pots to provide acid growing medium, to move around to get sun and heat all year, as well as watering daily. However this year being so wet and humid, they think they have gone to heaven and now require repotting a year early. And looks like they are bursting into flower months early due to seasonal changes this year. Interesting to hear about your local varieties. I have one which is a Southern High which is heading for 3m (10ft) tall in its 20lt pot. Now moving them all to 35lt pots which will hopefully be the last size increase. 😵 Had a great crop last season which only ended a few weeks ago really. We are going into our winter but this extra humid tropical air, warmer than usual days and system of lows has thrown a spanner in the works for all of nature on this side of Australia.

My most vivid memory of my great granddad was him scouring the meadowy fields under some giant pine trees harvesting cran- and blueberries. The whole family had travelled for hours to come to his sacred place where we were to "pella bær" (pick berries). Tyttebær, as we call our cranberry variety, is an addon to every game meat and blueberry we use for for juice/jam. And we needed tons of it to last the whole winter. Now I have both berries behind my barn :)

We do have Snowshoe hares in northern counties here in Pennsylvania, but I've not seen them. I've seen tons of them in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Never hunted them in Michigan, but saw many of them from my treestand while hunting deer, and walking my dogs in the winter through frozen swamps, and other bottomlands and cedar stands. Your gardening is very interesting, and a big departure from most people's gardens, and probably your own gardens in the past. I hope you have much success in your efforts to grow a garden from nothing. Of course you have the greenhouse, which has it's own issues at times. I personally have had my "green thumb" status revoked. I have a hard time growing dandelions this year, let alone the stuff I'm trying to get to sprout🤣 I can do the same thing one year with great success, and have it totally fail the following year. You get these delusions that you have a handle on one particular part in the process, and all of a sudden it no longer works, or you get new pests or diseases that you never had before in the garden. I've never been sooo prepared as I am this year, but my seeds are waaaay late in germinating! Best of luck Shawn ... happy growing!

Long ago I rented a old farmhouse on Pickering Beach Rd in Ajax, Ont. very close to Lake Ontario. Nothing but open farm fields backing onto a creek back then. In the winter, the field would be loaded with snowshoe rabbits. I always enjoyed seeing them. We also had a rather large population of skunks usually emerging in late February. There was a resident pack of coyotes that made their territorial round on the east side of the creek about every five days. For some one that had never heard coyotes sing or even seen a coyote, it was a wonderful event.

I'm using an excavator to move wild low bush blueberry rhizome into productive fields to fill in bald areas, mostly as a test for now and will pick up this activity later in the fall as the plants go dormant. As you clear the land a controlled early spring burn will enhance the wild blueberries. burn every other years and split the lot in half so you have a good crop each year. Maine produces 100 million pounds this way every year. New Brunswick as well has a large wild blueberry crop not to leave out Quebec.

The people who cared for the customers & the cabanas set out pots of water & Yeast to attract the flies & keep them off the people vacationing. The Yeast would mimic a person breathing when exhaling & draw the bugs to that pot. The pots were hidden in the lush greenery along side the walkways. You could set up several pots around the perimeter of work space to try it out. I hope this helps you with your pesky visitors!

Baby rabbits are cute, but .... they grow up chewing down newly sprouted veggies. Once they find the way into a fenced garden, you're fresh veggies plants are done growing. I have a chain-link fenced in garden, rabbit found his way in and finished off four 20 foot rows of newly sprouted green beans. Upgraded the fence with smaller openings, it worked for more grown-up rabbits, but if a young rabbit finds it's way in (went through the smaller openings) it'll keep on chewing and gets too big to escape. Replanted green beans 3 times and cukes twice. If there's a rabbit hopping around, let Calli chase them off. My mini Doxies can't catch em, but those bunnies don't stick around!! Yippee
