Are there any seals anywhere that you recognize and have befriended or the seal is, you know, very familiar and relaxed with you?
@LiamWakefield25 күн бұрын
The team has had some "repeat customers", but limits their interactions as much as they can to not allow the seals to become too relaxed around them. The big, lazy seals at the docks have become somewhat habituated to human presence, but the team still try not to add to that. 😁👍

In my fantasy land, whales and dolphins might help to clean up the oceans if "we" deliver the tools to them. Communicating with them is I think possible with channelers. Off course they might say: "It's your stuff"... but who knows. Anyway.... Ocean clean up is off course the biggest clean up process on earth right now we are proud off.

Los humanos han sacrificado lobos marinos del Cabo durante siglos, por lo que nos perciben como depredadores. Al no ser la tierra su elemento, siempre correrán hacia el agua por seguridad cuando nos acerquemos.

Graphic question just a heads up. What predators eat the dead seals on the beach? I would imagine carrion but what else? Thanks for what you guys do.
@OceanConservationNamibia23 күн бұрын
Cape fur seals do not have many predators on land. In our colonies, only seabirds, jackals and hyenas prey on newborns, but they return to their scavenger diet once the pups are big enough to defend themselves.

They are not, there is just too much rubbish in the ocean of them to avoid it.
@PenneySounds24 күн бұрын
This must be a stressful thing to be doing. You have to terrify, restrain, and even at times cut these animals with your own hands. Even though you know you're doing that to save them from much greater harm, that still must take a toll on you emotionally. It's a bit of a trolley problem situation, where there's the greater harm that you're not personally causing, and the lesser harm that you are. The choices are to leave these animals to suffer and die from entanglements that you personally aren't responsible for (though we as humans collectively are), or to personally inflict pain and distress on them yourself in order to save them from that. Even though the thing you're doing is significantly less harmful than doing nothing, it still must feel awful at times to have to be the one personally doing things to these animals that they certainly perceive as an attack.
