Parents often ask us how to avoid SIDS, or Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, the tragic situation where an infant may die in their sleep from no apparent cause.
In this video, Roger Kirk goes over some of the best sleep practices for avoiding SIDS and helping parents and babies to get the best sleep possible.

I really recommend the baby owlett smart sock monitor. It monitors babies heart rate and breathing while they are sleeping and in my opinion it’s worth every penny for peace of mind and to potentially save a babies life if SIDS occur. It can happen to anyone, even if you have the best mommy instincts and awareness.

One way to help prevent it, is not vaccinate your babies with mixed shots. If your gonna vaccinate, do a delayed schedule till their older and do individual vaccines so you can at least know which one caused the reaction.

I definitely agree when nurse kirk stated its not a good idea for babies to sleep in the bed with you. I barely got sleep when my baby slept in the bed with me. I kept jumping up out my sleep to make sure my baby was okay. I got a bassinet the next day I had the best sleep ever and the bassinet was on the side of my bed. My baby was sleeping just find on his back.

Idk I’m so paranoid that I feel like with my babies I’m always sleeping with “one eye open”. However, in a worst case scenario, if I’m super tired and I feel like I might fall asleep with them, I always set a timer for like 15 minutes. But most of the time I’m okay… or if baby has been taken care of, and there’s nothing they need, but I’m super tired I’ll put them in their bed and just let them whine if they need to. I’d rather her cry and be upset (as much as that sucks) for a few minutes, than risk potentially endangering her. However, I’m VERY HYPER AWARE, so I feel, hear, smell etc. even if I’m asleep or half asleep.

How do you only know she cries for a few minutes if your super tired and going to sleep? Also SIDS and suffocation aren't the same. Your baby is actually much more safer sleeping with you then they are by themselves. I read that Babies don't regulate their body system very well and we as their mothers help regulate it for them when we're next to them, sleeping etc. Also your much more likely to wake up if your baby stops breathing or changes positions thus you'll know something is wrong and then able to help. You wouldn't know your baby has stopped breathing in their crib

I was just doing a small test, I got a doll that’s accurate to a newborns size, I weighted its head to 1 pound and 70 ounces, the normal weight of a infants head for a 7 pound baby, since the doll had a open mouth I placed 5 different pacifiers in the dolls mouth and rolling it over, I discovered the soothie pacifier actually helped keep the dolls nose out of the mattress as well a popular rounded pacifier brand called bibs, both took a lot of the babies weight and kept the babies nose open and away from the mattress, other pacifiers provided some extra protection but not as much as a rounded pacifier, so the bibs, soothie, and gerber pacifiers should be recommend, I will be continuing my tests with different brands, baby weight and mattresses for adults and crib mattresses

In pediatrics the beds are 30 -45 degree angle 📐 to assist with easier breathing and placed in a blanket covered rolled blanket to prevent slipping down and flipping over. Never a flat bed. Due to risk of aspiration or drowning in phlegm mucus.

After wrapping the baby so its hands and legs are tucked into the cloth, sort of like a cocoon, laying the baby on the side is what our nurses suggested... with no pillows or elevations to the head... atleast for a month. Then they can be turned on their stomachs while being under constant supervision, and also alternating to on their backs... while the supervising adult is asleep though it is best to lay the baby on either of its sides...

Sleeping is most important. Depending on the age, the child should sleep daily: Newborn babies up to 20 hours If they are 0-12 months - 15-18 hours 1-3 years - 12-14 hours 3-6 years - 11-12 hours 6-12 years - 10-11 hours 8-9 hours - over 12 (some children need a lot more sleep during adolescence) Healthy sleep is most important either for Children and adults to function normally. While children are asleep they improve their memory and remember more what they learned during the day. They process information and emotions. Healthy sleep has regenerative benefits and reduces the risk of overweight and obesity.

I don't think sleeping on their back is a good option at all, I care zero about what studies shows that. I have a friend that her baby died because her vomit choked her. Because she was on her back and the vomit get to come out, it caused her to turned purple and she died. I much rather the laying on the belly
