You shouldn't ever feel guilty for feeding your baby! We are doing the best we can. I pump 5 times while at work and still can't get enough to feed her breastmilk exclusively and that's ok because we are doing what we can.

Thanks a lot for the detailed view. I just want to know that how to mix the formula and breast milk for weight gain. Pediatrician suggested to mix formula with breast milk so the milk will be fat enough for the baby to gain weight. I have sufficient breast milk but it's not fat. Wen I tried it tasted bitter and baby reacted in a weird way. Pls help me with this. Thank you

I will! But quickly - it often doesn't work well to thicken :( This is because the amylases (enzymes) in breast milk digest the starch so that can't act as a thickener. Also I never recommend it for babies under 4 months. But of course, this is a conversation you should have with your doctor since he/she knows your special and unique baby.

Thank you for your videos, they are a great help. Do you believe formula, can cause or aggravate eczema in newborns? ( I believe it would). I only BF for 2 months (Not by choice) had to begin to supplement. Feeding my son gerber good start RTF. Canada. :) Also purchased happy baby new formula (havent recevied it yet) not sure if this will help at all. Prefer to use organic from the beginning but that didn't happen. I was also thinking of trying nutramigen +lgg to help with his eczema. He's never had colic or gas, only his skin is really suffering. I don't know if that would be a milk allergy or a lactose allergy. Doctor said he was not allergic to the milk because he only has ezcema not any other symptoms....I cant say I beleive it. (My family history doesnt have ezcema but my husbands does. Thank you! Any help would be great!! Laura

Hi Laura! I absolutely believe certain formulas can aggravate eczema (just like certain foods can aggravate exczema in adults!) But every baby is different in terms of what may be causing the aggravation, and if it's the formula at all. This is very helpful. I am feeding Enfamil AR due to my son's acid reflux but still want to provide any breast milk I am able to produce. What is the best way to do this as you recommend not mixing the bottle? (He cant latch so I pump what I can). Can I feed one bottle of breastmilk and then one separate bottle of Enfamil AR during a feeding? I realize it may mix some in his tummy but thought it may be better than premixing.

i always make my bottles ahead of time (about 8 bottles each night for hte next day). i mix 2 ounces of formula with 4 ounces of breast milk in each bottle. is it ok to prep them ahead of time or should it be done as we feed him?

When I did, it never bothered my youngest. She's currently just turned 1. No need to warm up if unless it's your babies preference.

So when making up bottles for daycare could I mix the breastmilk and the formula ahead of time the night before? Or does that damage the breastmilk and/or formula at all? Is or it best to keep them separated and feed two bottles at each feeding?

The formula can’t damage the milk (phew!) you can absolutely mix beforehand but not more than 24 hours. Remember, that once mixed the breast milk needs to be treated like formula and discarded within 24 hours. So also maybe make up a smaller bottle of mixed so you know baby will drink it all. You can have “snack” bottles of breast milk or formula separated in case he is still hungry after the mixed bottle. I just don’t want you to make a huge mixed bottle and then have to dump it if baby doesn’t finish. Dumping breast milk is literally the most painful thing of all time ... rivaling labor 😂

@@rosys.257 Yes, I was able to do this. My daycare actually required us to have all bottles prepared before dropping off our baby. Once you make the bottles keep them refrigerated or in a cooler with ice packs. Then have the daycare warm it up just before use.

Helen Hines pediatrician stopped us from mixing due to it being to hard on our little girls belly. She is now strictly formula and has reflux so is on AR formula. Breastmilk unfortunately was never enough for her, she never seemed satisfied or full no matter how much we offered. So thats when we opted to mix the breast milk and formula but then found out she has reflux and mixing both was too hard on her.
