i hate it when people are just so stuck on the original version of a song that they cant see a better version right in front of their face. Aretha paved the way and is a legend but VONZELL IS THE SHYT AND IS A LEGEND IN THE MAKING!!!

@VanilleAlistair I musician for 35 years. Carrie Underwood did not win this competition she picked to win because Simon wanted access to the a country market. Please listen objectively and you will her the quality difference.

this still was one of the best performances of the whole season, and btw the contestants don't have a choice in the matter they have to sing those songs and it will never change because people like hearing songs they are familiar with on idol so they can compare because in some cases they do as good or better than the original (this is one of those cases)

I remember because against all odds she made it to top 3 her family was always there for her no matter how Simon disliked her to win but Carrie. Simon threw bad negative comments to her although her performances were above okay. I think Simon was right she just have an incredible range and nice personality but kinda pitchy whereas there were flawless black women singers Simon admired in the early seasons like Tamyra Grey in season 1 and Latoya London in season 2.....

I agree,Kelly is known world wide and she is definitely a diva in the diva group of Mariah,Withney,Celine,Lara Fabian,Aretha,Patty Labelle,Jennifer Hudson(new but a rising star),Leona Lewis,Christina Aguillera,Tina turner etc..Carrie is a great singer and I think she can push her voice if she wants to.Unfortunately for Kelly,Carrie is now considered a bigger star,because she keeps comming up with hits after hits and they're all high on the billboard's chart and Kelly's only had one in 3 years.

Vonzell was my favorite from season four, all the way from the auditions on. I much prefer her to Carrie Underwood, though Carrie is a good country singer. It's just, you can't get this much passion in a country song, you know?

who were really flawless vocalists and he praised them. Her case was like Trenyce in season 2, Simon didn't like her too. Maybe it was because Simon's command of judging to voters but I think it really has nothing to do with racism. It's about how best singer you are and how marketable contestant you are to the market. Simon is really judging truly wherein I was amazed in his prediction after Carrie's "Alone" performance that she can sold millions of albums after Idol.

The problem is that Vonzell is amazing doing these classic R&B/Soul jams...better than any other diva on Idol (maybe save Fantasia in some instances)....but like most Idol musicians, you get them in a studio, and produce something for them, it turns out mediocre. And it's not the Idols' fault. The golden age of songwriting is behind us...that's what's sad.

Ok I'll agree with you on the show having been lucky to have found her as she sets off the success for the following shows thru her own success.But Carrie Underwood IS the most successful american idol in the US so far,she has sold 11 millions albums as of 11/2009 surpassing Kelly Clarkson by 800,000 units,she also has 8 number one hits,but Kelly You're right remains the best selling artist world wide by 23 millions albums(us and abroad)Carrie only 14 millions(wikepedia lol..)

well yeah but i mean we didn't hear the whole thing on idol... we heard it on The One, but she was younger then, you can tell in the difference of clarity in her voice whewn she sang it on The One vs. American Idol, and on Idol it was stronger, so yes, she is near vonzell

Yea ur right she did actually get better for idol. but even if you compare syesha singing it to vonzell's audition when she sang chain of fools, the way she orchestrated her vocals was better. And she didnt even have to do a strong finish like she did the other times. So i think even then she wouldnt have been near her.

Cut the BS, in season 3 where people really used the racism card because Latoya was voted off, who were the top 3? An asian, a black, and a white girl. Who won? Fantasia. What kind of Racism is that? There's so many successful black singers, stop playing the victim card. It seems to me that many people believe that if a person is black, they are entitled to win. Vonzell deserved to be in the top 3, not because she was black, but because she could sing.

Not really. People like syesha, fantasia, jhud, elliot, tamyra, david archuletta, paris bennet, etc. are in my top fav too. i jus think no one on idol comes close to vonzell... i understand many people would disagree with that statement but hey thats my opinion. Idk about Kat... but she was real good. i know for sure she's in my top fav. for best auditions cause that was REAL good. but as the season progressed she impressed me a little but not enough to be in my top fav. She has good control, but she cant tackle any and every genre and kill it like all my other favs IMO. I like her though, jus not my fav. she's like in the group of people that i jus thought had good voice and stage presence. Not the best to me.
