Imagine if you'd told people in like 1998 that the most brutal djent metal song of all-time would be a song and dance number by 3 teenage girls about hide and seek, and their backing band, who consists of some of the best session shredders on God's green Earth. I can see a lot of us - myself included - laughing and dismissing the idea. But I've had my heart and face melted 3 times by them, it's such an honor. They fucking rule.

I just recently discovered Babymetal myself and am completely obsessed with them. I am 57 years old and grew up on Iron Maiden, Judas Priest etc. This band will take their place in history as one of the greats. Going to see them in Pittsburgh next month and I have never looked forward to a concert as much as I am this one. Truly remarkable band!

Great reaction - and I'm right there with you. I have never been better or so consistently entertained by anybody, any band or anything else. I thought I was a fan of a couple of bands in the past - it turns out I like their music, went to their concerts, bought a couple of t-shirts and so on and they really were great ... but BABYMETAL has blown every one of them out of the water. 'Catch Me If You Can' is the best metal song about playing a game that's a sort of cross between tag, blind man's bluff and hide & seek I've ever heard. It is the perfect mix of the two extremes with the brutal instrumentals and the sweet vocals - and the game they are playing, they're playing with an Oni 👹(a sort of Japanese ogre popular in regional festivals and used specifically to frighten children ... which amuses me probably more than it should😁). The growling vocals (they are on a backing track) are the Oni👹 asking things like "Are you ready?" and the best response has to be "Maada da yo" (No, not yet) while doing a running away from an Oni dance.🏃‍♀🏃‍♀🏃‍♀👹 This was a compilation video with clips from 10 different concerts from 2013 through to 2017. The Kami Band sometimes get their chance to show off during the shows and there are two or three other songs where they would do an instrumental intro like this. In order of solos in this video they were - Mikio Fujioka (RIP January 2018), Takayoshi Ohmura, BOH on his 6 string bass and Hideki Aoyama on drums.

After falling through the fox hole, and then taking a ride on the mint flavored time machine, I have arrived at Metali…😂 But yes, never have I been so captivated!

This is my favorite live track by them. I had the honor of seeing this Kami Band, in the US, totally not knowing what to expect, like 5 years ago. A friend of mine from Ukraine like begged me to go see Babymetal at the Palladium, and I initially agreed just trying to be a good friend. Lots of jokes on the way in, and I didn't know too much about the band or the girls beforehand. I went in thinking that they'd be a fun novelty that I'd pretend was actually sick, as somebody that had seen like 1000s of sets (I've toured and been a Warped roadie, among other things). When i walked out, I was trying to figure out if I'd just seen the best set of my entire life, or like...was it Top 5? They did this exact set piece with these Kami band members, and I almost broke my neck from tilting my head in utter shock. It's such a good time, easily the most impressed a band and production has ever made me. BOH is fucking nuts on bass, and the whole act is just awesome, it combines utter brutality and pop punk with like...Sesame Street, and the crowd is always sold out and fucking hyped. You can't find anything else on Earth like it. They're probably my favorite live act of the last 20, 30 years, and I mark out like a little kid every time I get to see them.

Excellent reaction, thanks! I totally feel you. "Catch me if you can" was my very first BABYMETAL song. It broke me in many ways and all i could do was binge watching their videos for days. This is definitely on their heavier side instrumentally but it also has cute lyrics, vocals and choreo, including my favorite move: the infamous "Moa slide" Lyrics are about playing hide and seek or tag... but with an "oni" a sort of Japanese ogre. Which makes it more... interesting. 😁 They have just released a new single: "Metali!!" featuring Rage Against The Machine's Tom Morello. And they will be releasing a music video tomorrow, as Morello himself announced today. Huge fan of South Park here since 1997... great year, by the way! Until next time!

This song is so essentially BABYMETAL. The cutesy and fun side are the lyrics about an actual game of Hide & Seek, but then there's the Metal touch to it, which is that they are playing with an Oni, which is a creature from Japanese mythology that resides somewhere between an ogre and a demon. And then there's the matching choreography, of course. Were you able to make out from the choreography that it's actually about Hide & Seek? If not, please watch it again with that in mind. Su (the Oni) scanning the area and Yui and Moa ducking away under her gaze makes me smile like an idiot every time. But it wouldn't even need the song to make me happy. I could just watch the girls jump across the stage shouting "hai" like they did at the beginning for hours and be happy.

Catch Me If You Can is the quentissential Babymetal song in my opinion. Fantastic music, especially with the Kami Band solos to kick it off. Great vocals and cuteness dialled up to 11. Funny lyrics about playing hide and seek with an Ogre. Great choreography, crowds engaged and enthralled... So much to love about this.

I love Babymetal so much. As its nearing my 10th year of being a fan of them, I've been bingeing older songs and a ton of reactions to Babymetal. I got into Babymetal during the summer before my freshman year in high school. Im one year younger than Moa and Yui in this, so I low-key feel like i grew up with this band. Babymetal was my first introduction to Asian music. Through them, It was able to check out a bunch of other stuff

Nice reaction. Babymetal reminds me of a line from a Van Halen song. "Sang so good that the roof fell in. Now everybody wants to go." A few decades back Van Halen change rock music. Babymetal seems to have taken every music lesson Van Halen gave and added their own twist to it. Eddie would have loved it. He was very experimental. And Babymetal has no fear of going trying something new. Or somethings new all at the same time. VH was thought of at a time to be the best live concert to see. Now Babymetal enters with that same energy VH had. Rest in Peace Eddie. Experimental metal is in good hands. The foxhole is deep and full of surprises

Ppl can try to distance themselves from the earlier stuff understandably supporting the new - but for me the sheer energy, sweat and exuberence, band and all the girls participation is just wonderful - they'd already hit the top of their game and have mostly continued to do so. Kinda felt that when she who should not be mentioned left the energy dropped, as did band & "side girl" participation. With the exception of some of the metal galaxy stuff (the international stuff mostly - good but not immediately entrancing imo) I find most BM stuff utterly stunnng though. Monochrome is to die for :) Good reaction - I love everything about this video - I know its a mix but it shows them off really well (97 version though...........🤤). For me - it's the band I think I've liked the most in my somewhat....long life. A work of genius and an absolute joy to watch. Great reaction btw :P

I'm curious to see which song you choose next (there's no wrong answer, really). I personally think Headbanger live at Legend 1997 is a great early step, as well as "Karate". "Rondo Of Nightmare" and "Akatsuki" (just Su) are really good, so are Black Babymetal's (just Yui and Moa) songs. There are SO many more that I think would blow your mind, but I won't confuse you with a long list lol.
