It took several years for KobaMetal (the producer and mastermind of this group) to create this song along with "The One" which is the next song, he's a Dream Theater fan. This song was performed only one time at Tokyo Dome 2016 so I really hope you go for that version because if you liked this one wait for the Kami Band sound as well the girls performing this hard execution song. 🦊🤘

Since BabyMetal like to tackle all of Metal and Music genres, you won't find other songs like this one. "The One" is their other song that might be called Progressive :)

Nice & thanks again from Japan 有難う💛。When I saw the video of the actual performance done in 2016 incorporated with complicated dance moves, I thought people who had planned it and then realized it were insane (including choreographer Mikiko). The show was perfect and stunning. In an interview, however, Su-Metal said that she has not been satisfied at all with her performance at Tokyo Dome and would like to retry it someday. [source : Magazine "Bessatsu KADOKAWA" Oct.13, 2020 issue, Page 87] Many people looked forward to the "someday" during the last year's 10 BABYMETAL Budokan concerts but it did not come true. Someday may come or may not. Only the Fox God knows.

It's crazy they managed to play this one live. Here is the link to the live version which is quite interesting (read the description of the video for a non logo version): kzbin.info/www/bejne/j6G4qpaCq7Z2grs
Yes this is definitely their most proggy song! This song live is super!

This is my favourite BM song and I hope they do more "prog rock", but I think this might be a one off given the direction they took on the last CD, Metal Galaxy. TOTD is on the "Metal Resistance" album and it's only live performance was at the Tokyo Dome and I bought that DVD just for TOTD and "The One", which is a companion piece. BM's music is very diverse and you'll find some prog songs and others that are poppy, punk and even ska. This is all down to their mad-genius producer Kei Kobayashi (Kobametal). "Tales of The Destinies" is the height of Kobametal's art/artifice/showing off/seeing what he can get away with etc. It's very obviously a homage to Dream Theater, "The Dance of Eternity", even the two titles echo one another. Dream Theater is a favourite of Kobametal and interestingly they played at the 2014 UK Sonisphere festival where BM had their break out international performance. This could have been a complete disaster but Babymetal bring their unique singing and dancing talents to the song and the Kami Band are fantastic...as they always are. To so obviously reference another awesome piece of music and yet still be different and brilliant on its own takes a lot of skill...and either guts or hubris. I love the way the ending resolves from the prog metal madness into a beautifully lyrical piano solo. In the song's quoting of other pieces of music and it's weaving together of seemingly disparate themes, styles and tempos it reminds me of modernist poetry like "The Wasteland" and it got me to listen to Dream Theater and to revisit Yes, "Close to the Edge".

NICE REACTION! This song was influenced by the band, Dream Theater, since Kobametal, BABYMETAL's producer, is a big Dream Theater fan. Mike Portnoy of Dream Theater said he was "BLOWN away" when he heard this song. BABYMETAL actually performed this song live once...but what is even crazier is that the girls have choreography to this song! I'm glad you reacted to the studio recording, because with it you get to hear every beautiful detail.🤘🦊🤘

Great reaction. You have already been given the link to the live performance - follow that up with 'The One' which started life as another part of this song, they were split fairly early in the writing process, but there are definitely some shared themes and 'The One' does have a prog metal foundation. Other songs you might appreciate - 'From Dusk Till Dawn' (this is another song they have played very rarely - once in the US in 2017 and then twice at the Budokan shows in 2021. Look for the Budokan 2021 live performance video). I'm going to throw this in - no idea if you will like it or not, but if you like songs that mix things up, time and style changes, unpredictable ... well it ticks those boxes. It was only the second song they released, so it dates back to 2011. They were establishing very early on that they would not be limited, they would not be pigeonholed or stuck with playing just one genre. The song is 'Iine' (that is iine pronounced ee-neh, not Line) and it means "so good" like a thumbs up emoji.

I can't really say Babymetal is prog rock, they do every genre in metal with best quality they can pull. Some of the best music writers in the japanese scene, the choreographer and stage setting manager who organized the olympic games ceremony, the best metal musicians hired to perform together for the girls, and Suzuka singing, that was already the most promising performer in her renowned artist school when she was a kid. In the case of Tales of the Destinies, prog rock. It was a love letter from Koba (Babymetal manager and creator) to Dream Theater. Babymetal is a fun journey where you can never be sure of what you are going to get. From straight Power Metal like Road of Resistance to very weird stuff. And yeah this song jumps directly to *The One,* both *Tales of the Destinies* and *The One* were written together. *The One* is probably where you should go next now that you did TotD. The One are Babymetal fans, so it's a song for their fans.

Technically the original definition of 'prog' with respect to music is just pushing the existing stylistic boundaries of music, so by that definition, Babymetal's entire first album is prog metal, while many modern bands that are referred to as 'prog metal' but are actually just continuing to do what Dream Theater or Tool did several decades ago...are not. That's just me being pedantic though :)

Well if this kind of thing floats your boat, Aldious have a track “The Breeze at Dawn” from their “Dazed and Delight” album, which is in the same category IMO, not as technical but probably better overall. It’s followed by a roundhouse kick to the head called “Dominator”. Epic stuff. Aldious are the OG successful all female J-Metal group of this millennium and overlooking them, as just about everyone does, is a great shame - they have a pretty big catalogue of excellent songs that stand alongside anything you’ve heard so far. Their debut album “Deep Exceed” is really an essential part of any collection of this kind of music - it’s absolutely fantastic. Their history of vocalists may read like a soap opera, but don’t hold that against them, they have all been brilliant one way or another.
