The "jump to pop" is when they start singing. *sigh* Not saying that these girls aren't good, but then the whole "idol" thing in Japan sorta makes it par for the course. The only metal is the intro, and the cutaway instrumentals where they are "throwing the horns". Cute, and not bad, but then I like pop more than any type of metal... but I do know what metal is and what pop is, and I do love a good juxtaposition.

I don't want to burst anyone's bubble, but this is *J-pop*. It's a factory. **_Everything_** is artificial. Nothing is organic. Every last detail has been carefully thought out by a great number of professionals to produce the slickest product they can. BABYMETAL ***_looks_* like they are having fun because they are taught to look that way. I'm not saying that sometimes they aren't having fun, but after shooting the video for 20 hours straight, they are probably utterly exhausted, so any "gee I'm young and cute and having fun" is *totally* an act. That doesn't mean it isn't a blast to watch the video! As LIL DOOP says " They look so happy up there and it just makes you happy to watch. :)" Don't get me wrong, I love BABYMETAL and this is an awesome video! I still remember when this came out. Me, a metalhead, married to a woman from Japan, and my brain melted when I saw this. My wife telling me it's cute, and I'm like "No, this doesn't make sense...these things do NOT go together!" 12 years later, Hanabie is my favorite band, and I think it all goes back to this song. This one belongs in a vault somewhere, to be preserved forever.
@mustardstain7 жыл бұрын
Some people think Babymetal were showered with money from the start just by the fact they were "created" by a producer, but the label wasn't really thinking that the project would go far so they gave them little money to do stuff and that's why Doki Doki Morning's video looks cheap even for underground band standards. Su didn't had appropriate clothes for the shooting of this video, so she had to borrow that red checkered jacket from a member of the staff. Moa had to borrow Yui's clothes and the Babybones in this video were also members of the staff that had to learn some moves for the video. They didn't had fame and money handed to them like some tr00 metalheads like to claim. They had to earn a lot to even have a live band (which didn't play regularly until they started gaining recognition in the West).
@Soufriere846 жыл бұрын
Preach. Yes, they had a pretty rapid rise compared to their "big sister" group Perfume, but Babymetal still had to pay their dues. On their own (apart from Sakura Gakuin) they started out in a literally underground club that holds 250, and their first festival they played a tiny stage next to the concession stand. If their first single hadn't charted so well, Juōnbu would have simply ended in 2013 as an interesting footnote. They _earned_ their fame.
@pscully19696 жыл бұрын
That's right, they and their mother group Sakura Gakuin started on a shoestring budget; this can also be seen in SG's initial videos. In many ways those sparse resources made this video very endearing. :)

The skeletons have long since said goodbye ( they were just actors playing "Air instruments) - Bones (the name of the skellies) have been replaced by Kami - actual top level heavy metal musicians in Japan.

Babymetal went viral all by itself with very little promotion or support from Amuse. Even Koba wasn't sure it would amount to anything in the beginning. He was asked in an interview if he had a promotional plan early on. He said, "Not particularly. What I did was only made a video and upload to KZbin. So feed back came from worldwide fans. Then Japanese idol fans saw it and came to be hyped as “something interesting appeared.” Seeing these we came to think that this might be something unexpected and should work on it more seriously. So we had had no TV spot appearance, no tied-up with Anime, no CM. We just made MVs and stage performances."

It's more complicated than that for me, since I was _aware_ of BABYMETAL back in 2014 or perhaps earlier, but didn't follow their work in the last 5 years. My musical tastes have changed, and their sound has evolved, so here we are in 2020 with me "rediscovering" BM and going through their catalog again with fresh ears.

One of their most Kawaii songs for sure, yet a nice touch of black metal blast beat at the end. :) THIS is how you fuse metal and Jpop.
