welcome to the BM universe! this is one of the "cutest" songs from BM and most start from here! Megitsune Headbanger Road to Resistance Death Catch me if you can Arkadia ... Just mention my favourites. You will come across video compilations that have part and pieces of various concerts, don't freak out! 🤣 the costumes and stages are different from venue to venue. Also, you will take notice that every song has a different "take" on music. You will find power metal, to classic heavy metal, to some sort of nu-metal influences... lot's of different sounding songs. never get old, never let down.

Glad you liked it! I don't know your background, but many people (especially metalheads) are wrongfully initially opposed to the choreographed dancing. I will admit that before experiencing BABYMETAL, I also had no idea how much it adds to the entertainment value (and I will also admit that it still doesn't work universally for me). And then there's the weirdness of the fusion of genres in "Gimme Chocolate" (and pretty much everything else they are doing). I had to learn how to appreciate all of that, but now I can't think of anything better. It keeps everything fresh and interesting, they are the epitome of entertainment to me.

I think a lot of the problem is that they are expecting a metal band. If someone told me Babymetal was a metal band I might go WTF is this crap too. I would prefer if fans were more honest and told them it's a pop-metal fusion. Or even a pop group that performs metal. I like that description. I heard a translation of an early Amuse description of Babymetal as a 'heavy metal dance unit'. I kind of like that for a starting point.

Great first reaction and welcome to the BABYMETAL Galaxy. 'Gimme Chocolate' is not a song I would normally recommend to anybody for their first experience - well, maybe a real live version with the Kami Band playing, just not the official video which has the studio audio dubbed over the footage from the live performance. This was the video that went viral and got them noticed, but a lot of that was to do with the "WTF" reactions it gets from most people (and you were no exception). With 'Gimme Chocolate' it can go either way - some people absolutely love the contrast or clash of styles straight away, for most metalheads it is just too much and they switch off as soon as Yui and Moa come in with their "atatatatatatatata dokyun" and sadly too many just never get beyond that. This is one song where the different styles are (deliberately I think) not blended seamlessly, so it goes very noticeably from one to the other and back They have about 50 songs now and every one of them is different. Some are very metal, others (like 'Gimme Chocolate') lean more towards their pop roots and they do everything in between. They have songs in virtually every metal genre (thrash, djent, black, death, power, speed, folk, prog etc) but they will blend in other musical styles and genres with the metal (not just pop, you will find ska, reggae, Bollywood, Latin, rap, hip hop and so many more) often when you least expect it - and they make it work. BABYMETAL are Su-metal (now 23) and Moametal (now 22) - the third original member, Yuimetal, sadly left the band in October 2018 having been absent from the stage for the previous 12 months. They started in 2010 as a sub-unit of a J-Pop Idol group (Sakura Gakuin) and it was expected to be nothing more than a short lived experiment, but against all expectations they gained popularity so a little more budget was made available and late in 2012 the live band (the Kami Band - some of Japan's very best session musicians) were brought in to play the encores in a couple of shows and they played at a couple of festivals with BABYMETAL. In 2013 Su was 15 and it was time for her to graduate from the Sakura Gakuin (it had a school theme and was for girls aged 10 to 15) and it was decided that BABYMETAL should be her vehicle and should separate from that group to go with her as an independent band in their own right. In December 2013 she turned 16 and the final step was taken in the transformation of BABYMETAL from sub-unit of the Idol group to independent band. Their backing band, the Kami Band, were phased in gradually from October 2012 playing festivals and encores in some shows. They became the full time backing band early in 2014. If the musicians in a video are wearing skeleton suits (as they were in this one) they were miming the instruments to a backing track - they were called 'Babybones' and were there for show (no pretence was made otherwise, everybody knew what they were doing). The Kami Band are the ones in traditional white burial robes and white corpse face paint (more recently in black robes and now wearing masks ... nobody likes the masks). 'Megitsune' is the song I would normally recommend for a first watch - the official video is very good, but BABYMETAL are a live performance act - so for you I'd say take your pick, either the MV or a live performance (live at Budokan Black Night is a good version). You will be surprised at just how different it is (the same can be said for every song they do ... so pick anything - and use the link in Killing Machine's comment to find the best videos).

I think we have a new kitsune, welcome to the BM foxhole. "Gimme Chocolate" is often the first BM song for people, but there is so much more to discover that is so much better as this song does not have their live backing band "The Kami Band". Gimme Chocolate is an early song and went viral on KZbin, but it's unironic J-pop content isn't common for Babymetal. So if you want to experience BM again I suggest you check out "Headbanger" from the same concert "Legend 1997" and then "Road of Resistance Live in Japan".

This video as an introduction to BABYMETAL is sort of like being introduced to Pink Floyd with 'Another Brick In The Wall'. Great song, very catchy, and it's their biggest commercial success, but it's not exactly indicative of the rest of their body of work. You're in for a helluva trip!

Babymetal has been one of Japan's best and biggest exports in the last 10 years or so. They began back in 2010 while Su-metal lead singer was 12 and Yui and Moa were just 10 years old. By the time they were average age of 15 they were on world tours. So what do you want to be when you grow up? Babymetal why wait let's do it now. They're in their early 20's now and were born to be on the stage. Babymetal opened for some of the biggest names in music. They earned their stripes along the way. Out of their around 55 songs, there are only two songs that aren't on my top 100 songs of all time list. Babymetal rekindled my interest in music after almost all other new music has disappointed me, and most old music grew stale. You almost can't go wrong with Babymetal, any song you pick out from any given youtube search will be pure fire. Another band you might want to check out from Japan is Hanabie (pronounced hanabi-eh). An all female metal band with screamo and growling and world class musicians. Here, too, it's impossible to pick out a bad song, because of their two albums all the songs are amazing.

So relieved this song didn't throw you off, since so many people seem to listen to Gimme Chocolate and write them off as a gimmicky band with no real talent :( I even did the same thing years ago but now I'm in love with this band / song and think they're so fun ! Great reaction, thanks and welcome to BABYMETAL universe! "Gimme Chocolate" tends to polarize people when it's listened as a first time song. But it seems it worked pretty well for you so it's great! As a result, this is gonna be easier :) The official music video went viral in 2014 and yes, the song has that "WTF" factor... they are very aware. Unfortunately it also has the studio version over the "Legend 1997" concert visuals. Not a bad thing, but as it's been said, their strong point are live performances. Which is amazing! Can't believe you never saw a Babymetal vid! Thanks to these three girls in their goth tutus I have discovered so many GREAT Japanese Female groups. Their band who is the Kami band was a great band all in it's own who ever came up with the idea to blend three girls with a metal band was a f*cking genius. I have been to and seen many vids and never really saw an audience that was so involved with a band. I love the band but not much into their newer stuff I will always be an old school Babymetal fan. The first vid I saw it was an accident that I even came across it and that vid hooked me on the band back 9 or 10 years ago Ijime,Dame,Zettai their official vid. They were really little kids back then it was amazing to see them kick the crap out of it.
