The lead singer, Su, just turned 16 before this concert, and the other two girls, Moa and Yui, were 14 or 15. This is video is 6 years old, so they are now in their early 20's. The girls and the band go hard on EVERY song for their 1-1.5+ hour concerts, then usually have to do it again the next night, then sometimes a 3rd night in a row!

Haha, your faces were priceless. Here are a few basic facts, certainly others will chime in to give the details: I'll start with the one "negative": The skeleton guys in the backgound (the Babybones) were not a real band. They were miming to a backing track. Later at that same show the girls (more or less) started performing with real musicians, and that was were the real fun began. This show was from 2013, the main singer, Su-metal, had just turned 16 the day before, Moametal and Yuimetal were 14. At that point BABYMETAL had existed for more than three years already. They had started as a subgroup of an idol group called "Sakura Gakuin". Later they splintered off and continued as a separate band, BABYMETAL. They basically founded their own Metal subgenre, called "Kawaii Metal" (kawaii = cute). I guess you can see why. Their goal was to introduce Metal to a new demographic that had never cared about Metal before. And I think they were pretty successful. They are absolutely unique and bring a whole new, fresh side to Metal. I'm not sure how seriuous you were, but I actually think you were right: They did convince me that there is too little choreography in Metal. As you also mentioned, they are just incredible fun and make you smile, and the choreography has a big part in that. I also have a theory why you might never have looked into them before: You may have heard from metalheads that they are fake and just a gimmick. Many metalheads just reiterate that and don't even bother to take a look for themselves. And if they do, they bring a preconceived opinion that they are not willing to leave without. I'll predict this: You'll take a look at a real live performance next, and it won't leave any doubt that they are the real deal. Abslutely everything about their live performances is top notch; the instrumentalists, the stages, the stage presence, the lighting, the vocals, the dancing, the energy, the crowd interaction... In my opinon they are pretty much the epitome of entertainment. There are songs that hightlight some aspects like the instrumentalists better than that one, but for an overall impression of what they are like with a real band, I'd recommend checking out "Headbanger" from that same show: kzbin.info/www/bejne/h3bWgJSDl7N5rdk . BABYMETAL's musical catalogue is very diverse, they cover a wide range between Pop and Metal. Some songs lean more to one side, some more to the other. But it doesn't stop there, they take influences from other genres and cultures as well and incorporate them into their songs. There's something for everyone, but in the end everything is great.

Nice reaction - and welcome to the BABYMETAL galaxy. So yes, who knew we needed choreography with our metal ... just one man I suspect and that would be Kobametal, the brains behind them whose idea it was right from the start after he saw Su singing with her previous J-Pop trio when she was about 10. Cheery, happy metal ... it was what was missing and the whole world needed it. Their hand sign - not the devil horns. legend has it that was what they were being shown but they mistook it for the shadow play fox (kitsune) ... and that has stuck, so they have a whole back story created around being chosen by the Fox God. Yes you have been missing out - and absolutely nobody ever has come up with a legitimate reason for not having listened to them (other than they had never heard of them, I guess that would be a legitimate excuse). Keep the BABYMETAL reactions coming - every song is different, but every song is crafted and then delivered with heart and passion and if you watch the live versions you will soon see why BABYMETAL are one of the very best live acts you can hope to see.

⚡ 💀 💕 / 🍫 💝️ BABYMETAL haven't toured with Judas Priest, although they did open for them in Singapore in late 2018, and they've shared the stage with Rob Halford for 'Painkiller' and 'Breaking the Law' at an APMA show in 2016. This 'Gimme Chocolate!!' footage is from 'Legend 1997', a December 2013 concert celebrating the 16th birthday of the lead singer, Su-metal (Suzuka Nakamoto). She was born in 1997. She is now 22 (23 in December), and Yuimetal (Yui Mizuno) and Moametal (Moa Kikuchi) are 21 years old. The BABYMETAL members are aware that their initial impression is often "WTF?". They compare that to what they first thought when they were introduced to metal music. This whole concept of combining JPop/Idol music with Metal could have been a disaster, but the quality of the singing, songwriting, choreography and staging take it to another level. 'Gimme Chocolate!!' is definitely one of their "poppier" tracks. They have been joined on stage for this song by members of Korn, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, and DragonForce. Obviously not all at the same time. : )

FYI, the hand sign everyone is making is called the "kitsune" (pronouned Keet-soon-ay...it means "fox sign" in English). It's not the typical metal horns - instead the thumb and two middle fingers are extended rather than folded. This band has much mythology and lore about their band, and the Fox God and foxes in general feature prominently. At any rate, Babymetal IMO are one of the coolest bands around today. They have literally created their own sub-genre of metal and are putting on some of the best live music shows around on planet Earth today - ones that combine Japanese aesthetics, dance, and theater. Anyone looking for an antidote to formulaic metal should dig this band, as there's currently no other bands really like them. Babymetal are also legendary for having excellent diversity between songs and styles, so many of the songs they perform reflect different styles of metal as well as musical influences from many diverse sources - you never get bored with this band. Anyway, enjoy your journey down the Babymetal fox hole. If I were to recommend a next Babymetal track to react to I would say react to their Legend 1997 Headbanger performance (from the same show as this Gimme Chocolate clip). Great reactions! This song really doesn't represent the awesomeness that is Babymetal. This was filmed live, but had the studio track dubbed over it. You should check out some of their actual live performances. I'd recommend Headbanger, live from the Legend 1997 concert. Or if you want to see one of the most metal performances ever, check out Babymetal Death (complete), also from the Legend 1997 concert. The band was started in 2010 while the girls were 11 and 12 and were part of a J-Pop group called Sakura Gakuin, which has a school concept, and is meant to train young girls to have careers in the entertainment industry. That group also had different clubs, like after school clubs, and Babymetal was the metal club. After the girls graduate at 15 they normally move onto other things, but Babymetal had amassed such a large fan base that they continued with it, and now, 10 years later, they're still going. In those 10 years they've had several headlining world tours, and opened for some of the biggest bands, like Metallica, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Lady GaGa, etc... They've also played at just about every large metal festival in the world. Their first one outside of Asia was in 2014 at Sonisphere in the UK, where they were barely known, and many metalheads were quite skeptical of this "gimmick" band being at their beloved festival. However, after a short five song set, they not only won over the crowd, but had them begging for more. You should check out the performance of Ijime, Dame, Zettai from that show, it's a classic, and the one that launched them into the international spotlight. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iKCQkJaYm8mlj6c The original members are: Suzuka Nakamoto (Su-metal) - lead singer Moa Kikuchi (Moametal) - backing vocals and dance Yui Mizuno (Yuimetal) - backup vocals and dance They are supported live by the Kami (God) Band, which is a collection of top musicians from Japan. They have members that switch out from time to time, but all of them are beyond talented, and also perform outside of Babymetal.

Heads up, Gimme Chocolate is the song, at least in my opinion, that shows the least amount of their talents. Su, the lead vocalist, is a world class singer and all members of the actual live band are some of the best musicians in Japan. Moa & Yui, the two backup vocalists and dancers, are amazing too, which is pretty much the only thing this song/video highlights. It's also a "live" video (the band with the skeleton suits in the background only mimed playing instruments) with studio track dubbed over it. BABYMETAL are at their best live, always, but especially when it comes to songs from the first album like this one.

Hi. Gimme Chocolate was considered one of the most important Metal song of the last ten years! In my opinion is Babymetal at their best.
@ANDOR-
@ANDOR- 3 жыл бұрын
I'm not saying it's not important, it's probably their most important song because it made them famous all over the world. If it's the best or not is subjective, as always. But the only talent that really shines in the video is the choreography in my opinion. It's one of Su's least vocally demanding songs, not like Rondo, Megitsune or Akatsuki. There's no band at all, and the amazingly talented Kami Band is a huge part of their shows for me. The performance is one of the less spectacular ones if you compare it to Headbanger or I, D, Z for example. It's also just a fun song without much meaning behind it, not like Megitsune, I,D,Z, Akatsuki, etc. And to top it off, it's a studio track with overprocessed vocals and all the instruments are way too much in the back of the mix for my taste as a metal fan. As is almost the whole album unfortunately. Headbanger is more like a pop song with metal background on the album, but one of the coolest metal songs I've heard in a long while when it's performed live. I like Gimme Chocolate, don't get me wrong (at least live), but songs like Megitsune, Headbanger live or I,D,Z live are way better for a first listen in my eyes because it shows way more of what they can do vocally and performance wise. I think all three of these songs also represent much more who BABYMETAL are and what they stand for.

ANDOR - This is a song about Japan’s post world war 2 reconstruction as far as I’m concerned. But regardless, the main riff is as metal as anything they’ve ever done.
@ANDOR-
@ANDOR- 3 жыл бұрын
@@kevinhiggins7838 I don't know if it's meant that way and if it isn't, sorry. But I've never said it isn't metal. I just think the mix on the album is not good as a metal track. As is almost the whole album if you listen to the live counterparts of the songs. It was produced (at least some of it) by J-Pop producers who always prioritize the vocals and everything else is just background noise, if I may exaggerate. To the meaning of the track, you can always interpret lyrics the way you want to and I myself thought that it's a more socially criticizing track that speaks about teenage (girls) troubles to always have to look perfect, especially in the entertainment business. But I tend to go with the artists on this, even though they didn't have a hand in writing it, and say that it's just a fun song about wanting chocolate, like Su said in an interview in 2014 or 2015. I can definitely see where you're coming from in your interpretation and maybe it was thought of that way from the writing staff, but as long as the only official statement about it is the one from Su, I'm going to stick with that one.

If you survived their most polarizing song, you'll probably like the rest of their catalog. They've been going on for almost 10 years (will be in October) so to those saying it's a gimmick, yeah, quite long for a gimmick. If we go down that route, Slipknot can also be categorized as 'gimmick' too, as well as other bands They invented the kawaii metal genre, aka cute metal, so don't expect the girls to growl (well, studio manipulated they did tho lol) and other tricks from scream bands, but this one is probably their most poppy one. They mix different genres in their songs, metal or not. Not liking it is ok, to each its own, but when you get support from Metallica, Rob Halford from Judas Priest, Rob Zombie, Corey Taylor (they had a cameo in CMFT must be stopped) and others, it's more than just a gimmick.

"Check it out! Chocolate!" Woo! Welcome to Babymetal! This fox hole is deep, but don't worry! It's super friendly here!!! Im super late and everyone has already said everything i wanted to lol! So I'm leaving this comment for the algorithm and for a recommendation! Gonna recommend my recent fav Rondo of Nightmare with Mischiefs of God intro live at Budokan Black Night. This is one of their darker toned songs and a Su-metal solo. It's about a girl running from an unknown IT in a recurring nightmare. She tries to hide but IT always finds her. Realizing that she cannot escape, she pleads for IT to show itself to her. Then finally she falls to the darkness! Soooo dark! So metal! Love! And also my new current fav Awadama Fever (grindy music and super cute vocals and choreo). Its said that this was the response to haters that called their music "bubblegum pop" and "not real music". So, of course, Babymetal clapped back by making a song about a mint flavored bubblegum time machine that can grant your dreams! Gotta love it! Kitsune up! \m/

I think I fall into the fox hole more or less at the same time as you. I've been seeing your comments in all the reaction videos (I guess all Babymetal fans follows the same path... Or maybe is the evil YT algorithm who gathers us! hehe) Anyways, I just wanted to say that I like your comments because they say exactly what I thought (but I lack the english vocabulary to express them) so thank you for been my 'voice' hehe =) 👍🏻 Kitsunes up!

I guess The One just love seeing others fall in love (just as we did), and YT realizes that we all watch these vids and so puts them high in our feeds (so they make sure we continue watching more YT vids lol...a vicious cycle!)! Happy to have been of help for a fellow Kitsune! Stay metal! Kitsune dao! \m/

Nice Reaction!! Welcome to the foxhole🦊 This is the "kawaii(cute) metal" of Japan. Put simply,this song is about how eating chocolate makes me fat, but I really want to eat it, so just give me a little bit of chocolate😁 All of BABYMETAL's songs are quite different and all of them are representative of their music. I hope you enjoy the variety of songs (all of them if possible). All of the songs are great, but if I had to recommend them, the following songs might be a good place to start. BABYMETAL - メギツネ - MEGITSUNE (OFFICIAL) BABYMETAL - Road of Resistance - Live in Japan (OFFICIAL) BABYMETAL - HEADBANGER LIVE AT BUDOKAN BLACK NIGHT 2014 Full HD BABYMETAL - KARATE (OFFICIAL) BABYMETAL - Ijime,Dame,Zettai - Live at Sonisphere 2014,UK (OFFICIAL) I hope you continue to enjoy your BABYMETAL. Put your Kitsune🦊 up! from Japan. (Translation by DeepL)

Great reaction! Thank you for giving them a chance. Here is a little bit of info...In 2019, BABYMETAL became the first Asian artists to hit #1 on BILLBOARD's Top Rock Albums chart with their latest album, "Metal Galaxy". BABYMETAL have performed with, toured, or opened for Red Hot Chili Peppers (there is a youtube video of them performing Gimme Chocolate with RHCP, as well as with Korn, and DragonForce), Metallica, Korn, Dragonforce, Guns N' Roses, Lady Gaga, and Rob Halford of Judas Priest (there's a great youtube video of their performance with Rob at a metal award show), to name a few of many. BABYMETAL has been around for TEN years and have performed at large metal events/concerts in front of 65,000+ skeptical metalheads in Europe (Glastonbury, Download, Sonisphere, etc), US, and Asia. Plus the 20+ awards they have been given. "Gimme Chocolate" is not one of their best songs, and has been known to turn off new listeners. It's WTF factor is why it went viral, and lots of people like to ask reactors to watch it because of that. They have 50+ songs and each one is different from the other, so I hope you give their other songs a try. By the way, they have some really great heavy songs too, as well as power power ballads, and I hope you like guitar solos, as well as bass and drum solos, like I do, because they have them too. SUBSCRIBED, and I hope to see you two react to more BABYMETAL videos. Let's get you to 5k!

This is probably their biggest contrast from pop happy vocals and hard metal backing, and thats what worries me sometimes about it being peoples first reaction, they might not be this open minded right off the bat, everything they do is unique in some way, they go hard or electronic or sweet and still make it work. And something i really like is that they keep their unique happy style yet the writing has still notably matured with them, they started with babymetal very young like 12-13 years old (maybe earlier) now theyre all in their 20s thats what made me get back into it.
