BABYMETAL Ijime,Dame,Zettai Live at Sonisphere 2014 - Producer Reaction

A 16 year old girl, her two 15 year old friends and an amazingly skilled band step out on stage at one of our (UK's) biggest Metal festivals, in front of 65,000 Metal heads, on their first trip outside Japan...and perform a song about stopping bullying forever. I'm 59 and it always moves me seeing them win all those hearts that special day. By the way, beautiful reaction.

I'm not sure the Kami Band will appreciate being called female - in this performance were Mikio Fujioka (RIP) and Leda Cygnus on guitar - both male, BOH on bass - male and very bald, Hideki Aoyama on drums - male. This was the 5th and last song of their set - their first appearance at a major event outside of Asia ... you wouldn't be able to tell that the vast majority of those people who had been moshing and ended up calling for "More" and "One more song" didn't have a clue who Babymetal were half an hour earlier.

To be fair: I´ve just found out about BabyMetal 2-3 years ago with Road of Resistance and postet it with "This drumming Lady is just to awesome to be real!". Mistakes can happen ;)

When you look closely at Su you can tell she knows they "Got This". They conquered the toughest metal crowd in the world as teenagers a long way from home. Just pure talent and charisma!! There is a very entertaining Japanese TV show that spends 45 minutes trying to explain Babymetal, especially their international popularity.

This was the last song of their set, so I hope she had that face by then when nothing had been thrown at them to that point and they were getting cheers pretty much immediately after their first song.

This festival was held on 5 July 2014 and was BabyMetal first major metal festival outside Japan.Gimme Chocolate went viral around Feb and Mar of 2014, with support of BabyMetal fans the organiser booked them for a smaller stage at Sonisphere 2014 (UK). Then online flame war ensued arguing if they are worthy to be there. The flame war grew so intense plus their sold out for The Forum, London concert tickets (7 July 2014), that the organiser bump BabyMetal to main stage by May. This is a stage where people throw bottle of piss towards bands they don't like. So when BabyMetal went on stage, they are definitely worried. After this performance, UK became their biggest market in Europe.

This was the concert when they converted 50,000+ hard core metal heads in England and the rest of the western world they were "Metal" and a worthy of their respect... at the age of 16 (Su) and 14 (Yui & Moa) respectively...

Great reaction, thanks! IDZ is definitely one of my top favorites. Really love the final part where they do that key change to get higher. Also an important message: Absolutely no more bullying. This performance is a very important piece of BABYMETAL history. This was their first performance in the UK and that was a massive festival, performing at the main stage, with a crowd of 50.000+ metalheads most of which never heard about BABYMETAL before. They were very afraid before they got on stage because that particular type of crowd can be very disgusting if the band don't match their expectations (piss bottles involved, you know...). The result? They won over the UK crowd and left them asking for more. Unbelievable!

Although previously unknown to tens of thousands of the metalheads in attendance, BABYMETAL ended up selling more merch than any other band performing at the festival. Not bad considering the lineup: METALLICA, ALICE IN CHAINS, IRON MAIDEN, SLAYER, LIMPBIZKIT, DEFTONES, THE PRODIGY, DREAM THEATER, ANTHRAX, etc., etc. 🦊🤘

⚡ 💀 💕 / 🚫 And… that's how you win over metalheads on your first UK appearance. Sonisphere can be a really tough crowd if they don't like you. My favorite part of 'Ijime, Dame, Zettai' is still the part where Su-metal threatens to kick Yui and Moa in the head if they don't stop bullying each other. And this anti-bullying song gets some of the biggest mosh pits. : )

I would love if there was a video of them right after they got off that stage just to see their reaction. Did they do like the *wipes forehead* "Whew, we made it" reaction? Did they lose their minds and jump up and down about how well it went? Were they still consummate professionals (possibly losing it later on the bus or in the hotel)? I've seen a video clip of them coming down backstage of somewhere and jumping around excitedly, but it didn't look like an outside venue, or at least not daytime, so I don't think that was it. If it was, though, that would be cool.

They had to have said something to Koba at one point, because I know there's a video from about the same time where Su got her glove caught on her tutu as well, like Yui did, but after that I've never seen it happen, and they kept the tutu's for what, at least 2-3 years after that, just in various colors?

@@perfectmaster42 Which is what I was getting at when I said they had to have said something to Koba, because after that there hasn't been anything like that that I've seen. So, it definitely sounds right that they did...although I don't think Su's wrist coverings had studs on them, but the connectors/clasps still could have done it...either way, they fixed it.

Since you did this one first, you should end the day off with another high note. I recommend Babymetal - Death (Legend 1997) or Rondo of Nightmare w/ Mischief of Gods Intro. The latter has a killer bass solo I think you'd really dig.
