Great reaction. I think you can see why 'Megitsune' regularly tops fan polls for their favourite BABYMETAL song even though it was one of their earliest. It is also the song they have played live more than any other and remains a feature on most of their live set lists. Like Karate, 'Megitsune' reflects a lot of the Japanese culture starting with the traditional instruments (shamisen I think) in the intro and the lyrics about women being compared to foxes (kitsune) which in Japanese mythology are able to shape shift and take human form in order to deceive. They are saying that women wearing their make up and hiding their true feelings are not trying to deceive anybody, they are simply trying to please everybody - so they are not kitsune (foxes), they are megitsune (female foxes or vixens). The breakdown with the pig squeals uses the exact melody of an old and very well known Japanese folk song called 'Sakura Sakura' (Cherry Blossoms). When Su pulled the short blade (tanto) from her microphone she said "Otome wa ... nametara ikan zeyo." (Maidens ... shouldn't be underestimated). This is a famous quote from a Japanese gangster movie said by the daughter of a gang boss. Much of the video was shot on location at the Asagaya Shinmei Shrine in Tokyo. This has become a place of pilgrimage for BABYMETAL fans visiting Tokyo. The 'Megitsune' music video and single came out on June 4th, 2013. Su was 15, and Yui and Moa were 13, (about to turn 14). Su will be 23 in December, Moa is 21.

⚡ 💀 💕 / 🦊 ⛩ According to Yuyoyuppe, the song arranger, this one went back and forth 36 times between him and BABYMETAL's producer Koba. The final mix was almost lost when many of the project windows would no longer open because of computer issues. Fortunately, it was retrievable. So, back up your hard drives kids!

A lesson I learned when my last computer's hard drive shat the bed. I hadn't backed it up in at least 3 years...3 years + of photos, grad school papers, etc. right down the drain. I plan on dropping some money to see if it's recoverable at all, but we shall see.

Nice reaction!! Thank you for all the BM reaction videos!! I think you're very right to watch the music video first. However, live shows are what BABYMETAL is really about. Megitsune is a very exciting song to play live show, and I highly recommend seeing the live version as well. You can feel the power of these women and the power of the audience. - Megitsune (LIVE "LEGEND 1997" [SU-METAL Seitan Sai] 2013) - Megitsune (LIVE "LEGEND 1999" [YUMETAL&MOAMETAL Seitan Sai] 2013) - Megitsune Live @ Budokan Black Night - BABYMETAL Megitsune at Glastonbury 2019 I hope you continue to enjoy your BABYMETAL. Put your Kitsune🦊 up! from Japan. (Translation by DeepL) Megitsune is a song full of Japan. From here on down, if you're interested in Japan, take a look. Megitsune(女狐) is a female fox. me = 女 = female kitsune = 狐 = fox There are many animals in Japan that are God's apostles. Foxes, Deer, Crows, Snakes... There is also a shrine dedicated to the fox god. photos.app.goo.gl/XNXiNHAFYqif1JyRA photos.app.goo.gl/QzWdfkqbWp7kebVH7 When Japanese people hear the word "Megitsune", they do not think of the animal fox. In Japan, it has long been said that foxes transform into humans and trick people. Foxes are considered to be bewitching, mysterious and cunning creatures. "Megitune" contains this meaning. The first instrument used is the 三味線(shamisen). The shamisen is a representative musical instrument of Japan. Since the shamisen was born 500 years ago, it is a new instrument among Japanese musical instruments. "それそれ(sore sore)" and "わっしょい(wasshoi)" are the shouts that are used when carrying a omikoshi(お神輿=portable shrine) during a japanese traditional festival. PAPAYA is also omatsuri(festive) metal, but so is this song. "コンコン(kon kon) is the animal sound of the fox in Japan. The song used in the breakdown is "さくら さくら(Sakura Sakura)" and it's about 150 years old. sakura means cherry blossom. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bZfEmZ9qbL2WhqM A woman wearing a kimono and a fox mask is dancing in a 日本舞踊(nihon buyou=Japanese traditional dance). The dagger planted in the microphone is a 懐刀(futokoro katana) or 懐剣(kai ken), a sword that women used to insert into the 帯(obi) of a 着物(kimono). 帯(obi) is sash belt. This music video was shot at this shrine. - 阿佐ヶ谷 神明宮 (Asagaya Shinmeiguu) - shinmeiguu.com/keidai/ 能楽殿(Nougakuden) is is the place to dance 能(Noh). 能(noh) is the oldest theatrical art in Japan with its origin goes back to 14th century. Incidentally, the 3 princesses said it was hot as a sauna in this place when they shot Megitsune.

At their concert in any country, the majority of the crowd are men. Young, old, hairy, bald, skinny, fat ... many such mannish guys shout with Su "Maidens shouldn't be underestimated!" in Japanese (especially in UK). After married lives start, those guys come to realize this statement is true. Ha ha ha ! So did I 😢

"Megitsune" (メギツネ,) was released in Japan on June 19, 2013 as the fifth single from the album Babymetal. It is also the first single released independently from the idol group Sakura Gakuin. the full music video, directed by Takuya Tada (多田卓也), uploaded to the official Babymetal channel on June 4, 2013. When this video was release Su Metal was just 15 (16 if don't count birthday) while Yui Metal & Moa Metal was 13 (14 if don't count birthdays). Unlike screams in traditional heavy metal, "Megitsune" is filled with festival chants by Yui Metal and Moa Metal like "wasshoi" and "sore sore", while Su Metal sings in the melodramatic style of enka. Commentary from BabyMetal for this MV: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qommdGxpid2npNk The music video was shot on location at the Asagaya Shinmei Shrine in Tokyo; it is now a popular spot for Babymetal fans from outside Japan to visit. The three members are shown dancing in Noh theater. In the last chorus, The song contains lyrics such as "from the time of birth, women are actresses" which reflect on the song's theme of women remaining strong when living with their varied facial expressions. The song relates foxes, which disguises themselves for deception in Japanese mythology, to women, who disguise themselves with makeup. According to Su Metal. foxes are similar to women as they can keep their true feeling hidden, even through hard times, leaving a cool impression. The last chorus contains the phrase "underestimate [maidens] at your own peril" (なめたらいかんぜよ, nametara ikan ze yo, literally "if you underestimate, it would be regrettable"), which is also famously said by Masako Natsume's character in the 1982 yakuza film "Onimasa"; whether or not this was intentional has never been confirmed.
