Their new album is definitely a lot more mature than their older stuff imo. "Monochrome" tackles a pretty serious subject in Japan. A story of a girl from Hiroshima who was 2 when the bomb dropped an died later at 12, and Su is from Hiroshima. There is an official video for it which is great. And there is a 'First Take' video which is a striped down one take performance.

Good reaction. I'd guess you've only heard a few of their more upbeat, happier songs ... they can do melancholic as well. Su has definitely added a slight vibrato in this song, but personally I really like the fact that, unlike so many other singers who rely heavily on vibrato to the extent they seem to almost be warbling (and I suspect some may even be using it to hide the fact they can't hold a note) she sings straight ... I'm guessing that was what you meant by "monotone", but Su-metal's vocals are anything but monotonous She expresses so much emotion and feeling with her voice - I speak no Japanese whatsoever, but I can nearly always feel whatever emotion she is wanting me to feel and I can get the basic meaning of whatever the song is about just from her voice. I think you would appreciate the other singles they have released for this album, especially 'Monochrome' (and that has a lyric video so you will see exactly what it is about too) and there are quite a few of their older songs I suspect you haven't heard that might appeal to you too.

Great reaction, And I really like that even though they may not be your thing you give them a chance it's so important to not write off bands they may have some hidden gems that become your favourites. I think this song from the first album may surprise you - BABYMETAL | Rondo of Nightmare (w/ Mischiefs of Metal Gods Intro) | LIVE at Budokan Black Night

While Su-metal is known for her ability to do a strong clean belt sans vibrato, she actually has used vibrato in her vocals a lot since her voice started to mature around age 14. I really don't understand why others think it is rare. I will admit her natural vibrato is fairly narrow but i find it a quite sweet sound. In this song she is pushing her vibrato and, to my Western ear, singing in Enka style going for the strong wide melodramatic vibrato at times. This was a thing she was encouraged to do for their song Megitsune when she was 15. To my ear the result, while maybe not sounding full-on Enka, was spectacularly good. Can be heard on the official MV.

Great reaction, good to see you found something you like. You know what is surprising about what you said ? The MV is actually the studio audio ! (they wanted to quickly release it with just using an editor probably, only days after the show). Babymetal is just getting a more mature sound over time. Makes sense of course.

Welcome back to the Foxhole and BabyMetal's metalverse 🦊🤘🌐 I hope you and your dears get better. Nice to see you're coming back to hear more of them, this time returning with a more mature sound and a new BM side we've never seen before. This is why BabyMetal have no match among any other Japanese artists, top notch worldwide. Many others are finding GOT resemblance on this stage setup, it looks insane. The ten prophets are holding crosiers with "The Other One" logo which is similar to the infinite symbol OO and is the title of upcoming 4th album. The girls are carrying some kind of trident, if you know MoaMetal you know you got be careful with her. 🔱 Here's some official info about this song: METAL KINGDOM (THRONE) _It is a powerful anthem ushering in the beginning of a new era while also representing the power and courage to step forward into uncharted territory. The track conveys imagery of one rising powerfully from the throne of silence, with a suitable fanfare announcing this new beginning._ At the end of January at Makuhari Messe they held two great live shows returning to the stage after almost two years. and by far they meet up my expectations with this epic live performance and top notch production. SuMetal and MoaMetal showing why they're a queen and princess deserving their thrones. The cinematic drone shots are just insane. We were expecting this live proshot version but we'll have to wait next month for live sound. We got so many big news and announcements, a new official member is coming (most likely Momoko Okazaki, the one who has been performing with them all these years and latest live concerts) next live shows in April 1 (Fox Day) when returning once again with another headlining shows at PIA ARENA MM Yokohama. Also they performed with a new BM mirror unit coming from another world of this metalverse, so we're guessing maybe some of the older kawaii metal songs they don't play anymore will be back with this new unit, so stay tuned for more but like always OTFGK. You can find the official lyrics pinned in the comments but here's the lyrics translated for you in my next reply. Glad to see more reactors and metalheads liking this song. Thanks for sharing this and put your kitsune up!🦊🤘👑

I don't know what you've seen from them before, but I think you'd enjoy some of their early performances too. At least the Su solos like Akatsuki and Rondo of Nightmare, both performed at Budokan Black Night in 2014. I think you'd like the other two new singles as well, Monochrome and Divine Attack. I much prefer Japanese, it sounds so much better and it lets me feel the song rather processing the lyrics, I can always look them up later.

Thanks from Japan 有難う💛。 You are lucky! BABYMETAL will join Sabaton's Europe tour as a guest and perform at Helsingin jäähalli on May 19 and Kuopio-Halli on May 20. Sabaton and BABYMETAL have got along for years. 😍 This video is from Makuhari shows on Jan.28 /29. I witnessed both shows at the venue. You saw one octagonal movable / elevatable stage but actually there were two identical stages for more surprising production. Several drones with camera were flying around all over the venue. Once this opening song by Su-Metal and Moametal got started, I had goosebumps all over my body. The show was held after the almost 2-year long hiatus after all. Seriously many of audience were moved to tears and/or dropped their jaws when the gigantic fox wall opened and the thrones came out. Yeah! I chanted all through the song. ♪ Oh oh oh o o o ♪. What a happy experience!! The Kami band was playing on the east stage that was not captured in this video. After this grave opening, 3 girls performed 12 songs with Momoko Avenger, a support dancer including playful songs. Did you see 3 (not 2) thrones at 04:57 in your video? Yeah, BM will change. The official 3rd girl is going to be unveiled in the next shows in Yokohama on April 1/2.

BABYMETAL’s journey is basically the stages of growing up. In the earlier days, it was pure, unadulterated, chaotic energy and it’s always in your face and zooming everywhere. Same with kids and their unending pool of energy. As any kid that grows older, they become more poised, more stoic, and even at times very moody aha. Which is okay. I loved seeing their development. It’s been one hell of a ride

Unfortunately, the audio in this music video was recorded in a studio. SU-METAL on this song is exceptional and uses a lot of vibrato. I too recommend the Shine Legend M version as others have recommended.

Great to see you back and hear that you are doing better. Quite agree with you on this track. It is a lot more mature than their previous work, and it's great! If they are doing more of this then bring it on.

I prefer their earlier stuff. I like complex music that isn't all the same feeling. I want to experience different emotions. Not the same one. I like dark songs about suicide. I also like cutecore. I like happy sounding songs with dark lyrics. I want an emotional roller-coaster not emotional monotony.

I'm so happy to hear you've come back to Babymetal. Yes, their earlier catalog is completely representative of their age. They are in their mid-twenties now, and their voices and sound must mature along with them (but the fans still feel very nostalgic whenever they sing them now). Please listen to Monochrome which they just released a few months ago. I think you'll like that one too. It has a great depth of meaning and very soulful sound to it. Thanks for doing a great reaction. Your reaction made me smile.

Yeah, historically I've listened to BabyMetal when I needed a pick me up. Sometimes I need joy, but also double bass and a nasty guitar solo. XD You might dig some of the newer album, tho. They are definitely going in a more mature and emotionally complex direction. The single before this one, Monochrome, is ultimately hopeful but deeply melancholic. There's this almost...wail of despair in the prechorus that guts me every time. (Also, it's got a lyric video, so yay official translations.) Thanks for the reaction. Hope you feel better soon. 🤘🦊🤘

If you enjoy melancholic songs I very highly recommend Monochrome. It’s BABYMETAL’s second single from their upcoming album and seems like it would be right up your street. Their other new single is Divine Attack with lyrics written by Su. A new single, probably Light and Darkness, will be released in the next week or so. Su’s voice has matured greatly in recent years which you’ll notice in the latest songs.

I saw them live in NYC a few months ago... and listening to Su-Metal sing live was almost an "out of body" experience. It's the closest I've ever had to a 'religious experience'. Su-Metal is my Queen!! She is that powerful and controlling.

They have a bit of a rep for their studio stuff being over-porduced..... "Live" is nearly always better. As for vibrato etc....that's exactly one of the things she VERY rarely uses - and deliberately so - personally I love the clean pure tones for metal. Good reaction and keep looking into them pls - there's a LOT out there that you wouldn't regard as childish - and - at least until more recently they gave the band a LOT of space. Her voice btw sounds MASSIVELY better in Japanese, the emotional content she can put in seems far greater - (they use a lot of English anyway) - possibly becuase of the structure of the language

This is their return performance, with the intro of them asserting dominance. This is just studio audio with live footage of their concert tho. Yea I totally agree with you, Su's vocal actually much better live with her natural quality - especially for their older albums where they were recorded very early while she constantly evolving in few years. It's very difficult to peform that far away from the band (the speed of sound and timming ect....) and they had some issue in the first night but in this concert Su wanted to be close into the fans as possible so you have that long walk way to the middle of crowd
