I mean ... it's been out for a week and everyone in that time has come up with the same conclusions or close too. He's either legit and really good or he saw people react to it or heard about what it is about a head of time and is passing it on as if he figured out on his own. Not saying this is the case but you can not prove it isn't.

@@Squall_0690 Ummm....ok? Perhaps the reason so many people came to the same conclusion is because they are BabyMetal fans and know the history behind Hiroshima and Su? Not to mention there are actual English lyrics in the video so there's no guessing as to the words. Add in the visual images of war, and and bombs, and it's not hard to come to the same conclusion. For the record, no, I did not watch it ahead of time, I never do for anything I react to. I even avoided the BM Discord once it came out until I recorded the reaction (which was on Mon the 21st as I was on a 5 day, 12 hour stretch at work thru Sunday night. Thanks!

For what it's worth, my take is that the song is drawing a parallel between the historic devastation of Su's hometown of Hiroshima, and the mythical destruction of the Norse gods in the Rangarok. In both stories, everything is destroyed and all hope seems lost, but out of the ruins life and hope are reborn, and there is renewal afterwards. The tree is a thematic element that appears in both parts of the analogy, with the Hibakujumoku (Hiroshima survivor trees) and Yggdrasil (the Norse World Tree) being symbols of life enduring through destruction.

I've seen _a lot_ of people connect this song to the atomic bombing of Hiroshima, and especially in conjunction with the lyric video, I definitely agree that it's a reasonable conclusion to draw. However, I think some people (especially in youtube comments) are a bit too eager to parrot what they've heard others say about it, particularly drawing specious connections to No Rain No Rainbow and claiming that the tree in the video/cover art is representative of the hibakujumoku. The way I see it, Babymetal has almost always written lyrics that intentionally leave lots of room for interpretation, and I see no reason why Monochrome should be any different. If you read the lyrics without the context of this video, there's very little beyond the 'monochrome firework' mentioned in the chorus and the 'dusk of Ragnarok' line from the bridge that really seems to point toward that one specific meaning and plenty that doesn't really fit at all. So, while I think that interpreting it as being about the atomic bombing(s) is entirely valid, I also think that we should leave room for ourselves and others to think of it in different, more personal terms. Anyway, great reaction and impressive perceptiveness!

As others have said, you nailed the interpretation really quick. A key word they use here is 'bokura' for 'we', which is the masculine form. So they are talking about everyone, not Babymetal specifically. The umbrellas falling in the video is symbolic for fallout that rains down afterward. The firework is monochrome because video recordings of nuclear blasts are monochrome, and it creates a monochrome world.

Thanks for an other great reaction. It took me some time to digest and put the themes together, but I think their are multiple things going on in this song video, Suzuka/Su-metal was born and raised in Hiroshima. And at least one of her grandparents is a survivor. This obviously makes the connection to the bomb easy. But I would say it's part of a bigger metaphor/reminder. That after bad times we will good times will return. When we talk about Babymetal specifically: just like after the pandemic Babymetal will tour again.

Professore Hartley also said that the images of the Umbrellas are quite emblematic, since they are usually used to protect yourself from rain, or acid rain in this case. I'm really liking this song through and through. It sounds like hard rock with a touch of metal, which I don't think we've heard from BABYMETAL before? It's really good and I enjoy every component of it equally; the vocals, the instrumentals, the lyrics and even the video. It's all perfect and the only thing missing is the choreography from a live performance, which I'm very excited to see next year. The song has to be a warning of a future nuclear war with references to their experience with the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings, like the grey colors from the ash, the black rain, the surviving trees (Hibakujumoku) and the oleander flower (official flower of Hiroshima). May these atrocities never be repeated. It wouldn't be far-fetched to *imagine* that the girl with the umbrella is meant to portray Su. I've heard her grandmother was a survivor and I know Su grew up in Hiroshima before moving to Tokyo sometime during the Sakura Gakuin days.

excellent content Glass Moon-Metal, this song is so awesome, i can't wait to see it performed live, hey I wanted to mention something before your Tokyo Dome stream, there is a small little cute moment that was edited out of the final edit, right before the three walked down the center column stage during their "We Are" BABYMETAL call and response, the goddess Su slipped on a wet spot and fell right on her bum, and Moa and Yui were stunned and frozen for a couple seconds, but then she got up and laughed it off as they joined together walking down the column stage, the fall is edited out but the laughing and joining together is kept in and what Su does to Moa during the "We Are" is special and left in thankfully.

Oh wow, didn't know about that little tid-bit. I guess there's no youtube video of that? I think that might be the first time I've ever heard Su having an accident or screwing up or anything of the sort before! Normally she does pretty much everything perfectly. Even the Tales of Destiny song when her IEDs failed her and they weren't really working for her, she was still spot on. The woman was BORN for this stuff. So I find that amazing and would love to see the whole thing. One of the few moments where we see Suzuka overtake Su-metal. Actually come to think of it, there was the other time when Su saw all the lights from the fans for the first time and she had a stunned look for a half second before going back into Su-metal form. I forgot what song that was for, but it was amazing to see her do that too.

Your conclusion is very plausible given the combination for lyrics and images. Of course lyrics can be deliberately vague and translating / interpreting between Japanese and English is not always straight forward. Some more pieces for the puzzle: SU-METAL is from Hiroshima. Some things survived the nuclear bombs dropped in Japan, including some trees. They are about to tour with a band that specialises in telling stories from history. THE OTHER ONE is meant to show a different side of BABYMETAL - perhaps not as fun and more serious? No doubt they will keep adding pieces to the puzzle - they are very good at hiding things in plain sight. As I mentioned previously, I'm glad you're on board for the ride.

I kind of look at it from Su’s perspective. She was born in Hiroshima, if I remember correctly. So it might very well be a reference to the bombing of Hiroshima. And I’ve also heard people talk about the tree surviving the blast in Hiroshima. Also with Norse mythology, I think that tree sort or kind is symbolic of life. Very loaded song, very heavy. Great reaction, thanks! And you are absolutely right with your interpretation. They went really deep lyrically on this one. What you probably don't know is that the lyrics have several references to their song "No Rain no Rainbow" and specially to a particular "kamishibai" (animated intro) narrated by Su-metal during the concerts "Legend S" held in 2017 in Hiroshima, her hometown. The narration was about the horrible consequences of the nuclear blasts. And yes, they wanted to end the song with a positive message or at least a hint of hope with the final libes and depicting the tree in colors. It could be the tree of life, Hiroshima's survivor tree or "Hibakujumoku" and even "Yggdrasil", again from the Norse mythology, a sacred tree representing the link among the 9 different worlds.

What references are there to NRNR in Monochrome? Please explain. Also, minor correction - 'hibakujumoku' refers to _any_ tree that survived the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, not to a single specific tree.
@road-runner
@road-runner Жыл бұрын
@@silly_programme5061 Yes, I know about of the generalized use of "Hibakujumoku" meaning literally (literally a-bombed tree). I probably expressed myself badly. I apologize since English is not my main language. About "NRNR": the reference is pretty obvious, the metaphor about the rainbow after the rain, etc. But it turns more specific when you read the narration (by Su-metal) on the intro to "NRNR" from the Legend S concerts. Here: DESPAIR "The bright beam of light That wiped all light from the world Also ceased people's light of hope The skies turned dark And endless rain fell upon the people Who had lost all of their light and hope But endless rain doesn't exist And the people hope of black skies to clear out So the heavens can restore the light that had been lost They hope to discover that there's happiness at the end of sorrow And they pray for light of hope to return to them."

I, too, haven't seen anyone interpret these crushing images of this video correctly right off the bat, although in my opinion they are so clear and could hardly be more direct. What this video is supposed to convey was clear to me right away, but after I was reminded of Su's origin by comments, the crushing feeling was intensified many times over for me. This song-video combo is both heartbreaking and awesome at the same time. When i first listened to this, I was a a bit Meh! Too Radio friendly. The more I listen and understand the lyrics, the more I have fallen in love with this track! The new album is supposed to visit 10 metalverses, one for each track. For me, the Monochrome Firework, is the bomb that devastated Su's home of Hiroshima! The tree, in the video symbolises, "Yggdrasil, in Norse cosmology, is an immense and central sacred tree. Around it exists all else, including the Nine Worlds." The lyric video also mentions Ragnarok "In Norse mythology, Ragnarök is a series of events, including a great battle, foretelling the death of numerous great figures , natural disasters, and the submersion of the world in water. After these events, the world will rise again, cleansed and fertile, the surviving and returning gods will meet and the world will be repopulated by two human survivors." I think that fits with the final imagery, of the the video, where we go from the Black Rain, of a nuclear explosion, to the colourful hope of the future.

a great reaction as always!!! but this one you were precise in your interpretation right from the beginning, you can notice that the initial beats of the drums in the "double tap" very accelerated, are like shots from a machine gun, the umbrellas falling, are like bombs falling, the girl with the umbrella, imagines herself to be Su, because in addition to wearing a hairstyle similar to hers, Su was born in Hiroshima, one of the cities that suffered the Nuclear attacks, this MV has many symbolic elements, even the tree, both in Norse mythology and in others, it symbolizes resistance and hope, staying alive after a tragedy, well it's one of those MV that can take many observations and several contexts, along with the lyrics and the music, where Su puts all her vocal talent, with a melody, at precise points, very melancholy. Once again, thank you so much for being on this journey of knowing, and in depth!!! the babymetal
