Great reaction. This specific performance is always emotional. Not only because of Su’s amazing vocals and the emotions she conveys, but also because this concert was the first show when Yui stopped performing, and the last show Mikio (tan/white guitar) performed before he passed away shortly after 😢. 🤘🦊

Great reaction. They pulled all the stops out for Su's 20th birthday in her home town of Hiroshima with live piano and strings on stage for the first (only?) time ... and the video editing was good - it can be no coincidence that as Su sings the line "We shall never meet again, but I want to not forget you for ever" that the camera focuses briefly on Mikio Fujioka (RIP). This was his last performance with BABYMETAL before his tragic accident less than a month later.

No Rain No Rainbow is inspired by X Japan's Endless Rain. X Japan are Japan''s most legendary metal band and one of Babymetal's biggest artistic inspirations. This song has only been performed live seven times in total. This performance was at Legend S in 2017 at the concert to celebrate Su-metal's 20th birthday.

⚡ / ☂ 🌈 'No Rain, No Rainbow' is a rare BABYMETAL song. It's been performed only seven times since its debut in 2013. And never outside of Japan. As far as the lyrics are concerned, this is what Su-metal had to say a few years ago: "Sure! 'No Rain, No Rainbow' might be the least metal song of our repertoire and it’s been with us for three or four years now. This song is a total fan favourite though. You can interpret it in a romantic way but we like to think about it in a more open way. It is about simple human feelings of love and loss and how the value of certain things we have in life is only perceived in dark moments. At the beginning, we admit we couldn’t completely understand the deep meaning of this song. But this song has helped us develop not only Su-metal's vocal techniques, but also our way to express our emotions through this song the more we performed it."

I have a theory about this song that it may have been intended as a show tune or movie theme. I tried to find info on Yoshifu, the author, and I couldn't find much except it looked like he wrote movie scores?? I get the whole X-Japan thing, but I don't really see that much similarity personally. What do you think?

@@poohbear4702 The last line of the song is literally "An endless rain fills my heart, forever." 'Endless Rain' is one of the best known X Japan songs ever written. Although the music for 'No Rain, No Rainbow' is more like their song 'Silent Jealousy'.

@@rickwagner- I should have been more clear. I meant the music. Yeah I see the connection with the lyrics and the solos, but I was thinking about the melody itself. Just cuz I thought Yoshifu is/was a movie music writer and I feel the song would fit a movie well. I don't think the melody is like Endless Rain very much, but I'll check the other one again. I did listen to Silent Jealousy once, I just don't remember it.

@@rickwagner- Listening to "Silent Jealousy" again, I could see a slight connection if you slow it down maybe. Idk. That song reminds me of a Jim Steinman (Meat Loaf, Bonnie Tyler) type 80s song. (Which is a good thing)

An amazing song. I personally enjoy the budokan 2021 performance better since Su's matureness and emotions are stronger and out in full display. She even plays the piano herself for a small part of the song. For The Fox God has the video in her channel with lyrics. Might even be worth it's own reaction lol but definitely worth checking out whether in a video or on your own time. Would also recommend Syncopation and BABYMETAL Death (from legend 1997)

Nice reaction, thanks! This is a beautiful song and even better live performance. "Legend S - Baptism XX" were very special two back to back concerts in Hiroshima, Su's hometown, to celebrate her 20th birthday on December 2017. The intro of this song in these concerts was a kamishibai ("paper play" = animated storytelling) narrating the consequences for the population of the nuclear blasts occurred in 1945. Although the lyrics are not directly related to these events. This was the first time they performed without Yui (not present due to ongoing and undisclosed health issues) and the last time Mikio (Kami Band's lead guitarist who played the solo in this video) performed with BABYMETAL, since he untimely passed away few weeks later due to the injuries caused by an unfortunate accident while stargazing). So, all these emotions are added to the already sad lyrics. The song is a tribute to X-Japan's "Endless Rain" and debuted back in 2013 but Su (being just 15 at the time) wasn't happy with her performance because she was more focused on hitting the correct notes than on conveying the emotions. To the point they didn't include it on their first album in 2014 and only played it three times till this concert date in December 2017. She finally nailed it here but the song is still a rarity. 🤘‍🦊

Nice reaction. Love this performance of this song. Moa said when Su sings it's like an angel came down. This performance it's easy to see why Moa feels that way. But I think Moa is trying to tell us something. Su just might not be from this place. Moa would know being an angel of kawaii herself.

Lots of metal singers have got range and power (Tarja or Floor), but Su's one of the few singers I know that can be that expressive of emotions in her singing. She's not just a vocalist.... That's one of the many reasons I like her, she doesn't just sing a song, she performs it... From facial expressions, to her own interpretive dance moves, its a whole package.... If a western pop singer sings a sad ballad, they might just lower their eyes a bit, a slight frown... When Su does it (like in Akatsuki Unfinished or No Rain No Rainbow), you can hear the cracking of her voice, the slight choking back a sob, the sad tearful expression...Then the light changes, her eyes and whole demeanor changes. Better than some hollywood actresses. 🤘🦊🤘

Western pop singers can’t do ballads very well. Metal singers can. I would disagree about Floor and Tarja not being expressive of emotions.

@redguern Didn't mean to say or imply they can't. Love Tarja and Floor.... But for Su, it's like a whole performance, with facial expression involved, not merely just expressing through vocals.... In this and Akatsuki Unfinished, you can hear the slight hesitations and cracking in the voice, as if she's really about to cry, to match the eye watery look she had...😁😁🤘🦊🤘

@crimson0119 I understand what you are saying🤘SuMetal is certainly one of my favourite singers and performers. Indeed I think most metal singers have more stage presence than pop singers (I am not a lover of pop, too lightweight for me, and I think most of the "superstars" are far too overated). The main thing is, we are blessed to be able to listen to SuMetal, Floor, Tarja, Asami etc

Thanks again from Japan 有難う💛。 We are moved by this song because we are human beings. I am Japanese but my nationality and literacy do not have distinct advantages to feel the emotion stirred by Su-Metal and Kamis. Su's voice and Kami's guitar sound resonate with the bones in my whole body. This was filmed in 2017 and BM revived this song in the last two shows of 10 BABYMETAL Budokan in 2021 with Su's more matured voice. As an eyewitness of the 2021 shows at the venue, I can tell you that it was literally heartbreaking and made me forget to breathe. This 2017 version, however, may be still the best for me although BM always say "the latest is the best". It may be so because of the last appearance of Mikio (RIP) with Su. 😢
