They way Makarov referred to the characters by their first names, his cryptic yet creepy tone of voice throughout, the explosion at the airport and the reveal that the stadium was just a decoy was absolutely erie. Also, “Simon Riley, I expected you to stay at the airport, and die there.” He literally just admitted that the stadium wasn’t the target and he was always targeting the airport. Makarov here was closer to his original MW 2&3 iteration than the rest of the game combined. If they kept him this way throughout he’d been much more memorable.

Nah I disagree with you. The fact that Captain Price Almost Cries and Can't accept the fact that soap is dead is a lot more depressing and sad than the new one. Remember, Lt. Garrick or Gaz was Killed in Action During the Original Modern Warfare when he was in the 22nd Regimen of SAS Under the Leadership of Captain Price who fights alongside soap. And Both Sgt. Gary Sanderson or Roach and Lt. Simon Ghost Riley Was Killed by General Shepherd after retrieving the dsm thar contains files in which tells that shepherd was involved in the terrorist attack in Moscow.
