Brok doesn't know how blessed he was in this scene; Kratos bows to no one and yet here he is, on one knee, almost begging for Brok's blessing. Zeus' corpse must be spinning like a chopper blade. 🤣

One of the rings that inspired LotR was *Andvaranaut.* It was originally created by the dwarven king's son, Andvari, to find treasures. But after it was cursed, it corrupted the dwarven king and all subsequent owners with insatiable greed, misfortune, & eventual destruction (but thats the short version of the whole story...take a quick guess who started this). Ps: Andvari's ring is seen in the 2018 game. It talked to Atreus.

What makes it even more touching is when at the start of the game after your fight with Thor and Brok goes, "You know we made that hammer right?" Only for Kratos to grumble "You have mentioned it." To which Brok replies, "Sure did, but wasn't ever sure you were listenin'." So in this alone Kratos acknowledged and actively listened during the Nature vs Form talk and then reciprocates it when Brok doubts his ability to bless. It's a wonderful parallel from the start of Ragnarök to this point.

God bro I cannot express how much I loved brok, he was definitely my favorite character for both games even if he only had a smallish part in both. The spear is my favorite weapon in Kratos’ arsenal now, even more than the blades just because of the items that went into it, the story of its making, its purpose, its abilities, and who blessed it. And it made me even happier in this game that Brok and Kratos became real friends. He even went out like an absolute G pretty much saving the entire group. On the other hand, I HATE how Sindri is taking the death. I mean, I like it in the story of it all but it makes me sad. He has made a story in his mind that he has zero blame in all of this. He made a point with how we kept taking and taking, but we only ever took what he offered and gave back in a couple different ways. He was the one who allowed us in his home, who offered his services, who trusted tyr, who gave us weapons, he was never forced but now he acts like he was a prisoner and forced to do all of that even though most of it was his idea. He is just as equally responsible for Broks death as everyone else was, yet he hates everyone for it.

Most of all, blames and hates himself. That's why he still helps but he can't let out those anger and chose to kept to himself at the end. He's upset and is stil grieving. He's unable to let go but over time, it might ease the pain. True, for the part that he is also involved but he gave them everything. Doesn't matter how or who asked... People can shit on the new games for being "slow sony walking sims" all they want, but these two games turned Kratos into a genuine protagonist, with realistic character growth. The first game, he's filled with rage over the death of his family and Ares bullshit. He finally takes on the gods, realizes what Pandora did for him, and shows a genuine shift in his personality. It's good, but it doesn't solidify he wouldn't go back to his old ways. GoW'18 and Ragnarok, however, genuinely show a man growing and changing from the monster he knows he was. He's still a God, but he's remembering what it was to be a man: Having a family, caring for those who care for him, and things like this moment with Brok - Insuring a brother who feels betrayed and lost that he's not anything less because of what happened to him. They somehow took an antihero who everyone loved for being a badass, and turned him into a father and friend who just wants to protect those he loves.

Yeah, and I feel it's ridiculous how some people JUST want that brutal killing machine from the old games and not the story-progressing character-developing grown man with a family to protect. They think he's been "unnecessarily" milded down for wider audiences and they go all hardcore traditionalist, talking about how that's supposed to be a "bad" thing. It's not a bad thing, it's fine how it is going now. The people who only want him for the cool and tough ripping and tearing don't really understand what kind of man Kratos is.

I think Kratos came to respect Brok more than anyone else. He came to respect Mimir for his knowledge and desire to right his wrongs, Freya for her desire to protect her son even if it meant her death, and Atreus for seeking to do good. But Brok showed him to look beyond what we can see, to the deeper meaning of things. Brok was blunt, he was tactless at times, and he was never delicate, but he wasn't stupid, or foolish. Kratos said it himself; Brok was a great blacksmith and a good friend. A good person. I hope we get to see that his soul found respite. He deserves it.

finally he gets the damn spear, the best weapon a spartan or any warrior could have Edit:spear is the best melee weapon one could have at disposal even if it's lame Many games just shit on spears and go sword or other shit cool loking weapons when the most common and effective weapon was and still is the spear. Ofc i say all of this when it comes to melee since bows, crossbows and later on guns of any kind shit on everything. Not to mention you can throw them and potentially kill someone. Type of armor also matters but i'm not going into that shithole.

Something interesting I noticed when rewatching is that as the lady plays around with kratos's blood , she seems perplexed by the moment it first turns it into a rune. She probably thought that kratos was a vanir deity or even Aesir, but the moment she saw that his blood made the symbol of Omega she was genuinely confused by what it was for a second before having to reshape it into a compatible rune

By far my favorite scene from the game, such a beautiful display of respect. I've been searching high and low for the specific piece of the soundtrack that plays during Broks Blessing and I cannot find it. Doesn't seem to be in OST playlists online yet. A lot of people suggest it's a smaller part of the "Hulda Brothers" OST, and allthough it has the same melody it's not quite the same orchestration-wise. Here's hoping it makes its way online some day.

SPOILERS AHEAD!! Earlier in the game Sindri tells Atreus that a long time ago there was an accident in the forge and Brok died. Sindri stole his soul from the lake of souls in Alfheim but only could get 3 of the 4 parts. Sindri told Brok he only got knocked out. That's the part of Brok's soul he's missing and why he said Sindri lied and why he said he died.

Kratos has some of, if not the most iconic weapons in any game… the axe that can be thrown and called back from anywhere and in any fashion he desires, with emotional and narrative weight, the chained blades that can be swung in a flashy and stylish manner, with huge narrative weight, as well as nostalgic, and the spear that replicates itself as many times as he wishes, with emotional and nostalgic weight to it. All with amazing combat mechanics!
