I haven’t played bone in 12 years after playing for around 16 years, getting back into it now as I feel I have the time again… did a career change from music to teeth lol. You’ve earned a follower my friend

I'm getting a my fire BAC Trombone next month. I double between Tenor Trombone and Bass Trombone. Currently own a Conn 83H Bass Trombone a Yamaha YSL-448G Tenor and a R.S Berkeley TB 7407 Bass Trombone.

Gorgeous tone! The way a bone should sound. On both. Makes me as a trumpet player want to get a trombone. I’ll never sound like that, but it would be fun to try!

Hi Paul, I listened to this video after listening to your subsequent 6H video. I think both BAC horns have a broader core thicker sound, not any more sweet but perhaps less fragile and definatepy more core. The thing I noticed about both BAC horns is they do have a similar type of sound. The Custom horn sounds as though it has more resistance maybe that contributes to you playing for longer because it is perhaps proving you more of a platform to play off without needing the extra air to generate it. Both sound good, of course then player helps too thanks for the content most enjoyable. Cheers.

One benefit to the artist series is if you don't know where to start in moving up to a custom. I am think of moving up to a Shires horn and going with the artist model that has pretty much everything I am looking for. I may find something I want to change later, but that is the benefit to going with Shires, interchangeable parts.

Interesting to hear you talk about the nice slotting on the Artist - it came across in your playing. I like the darker sound of gold brass too so for my money, the artist has it. Of course, the player makes more difference than the instrument so others may have different views.

I love my lt16M, which was tried out by Bill Watrous himself when he was in Austin, according to the seller. Bill dug it. Its a early 70's corporation horn. And my 2 other 6H's one from 1965 and the other from 1957. I prefer the Bach because of the lightweight and I consider it more of a solo type horn, but the 6H's are more cutting and better suited for a big band IMHO

Have always loved your playing Paul! You can dish it out when you want to but you have a great lyrical tone when it's called for, no matter what horn your on. Do a lot of rock/funk/jam/blues/jazz work in Colorado and I've been using a 1977 King 3b. It's done a good job but I can't help feeling like a custom model would get the most out of the playing that I do. It would be great to experiment but you know, money.

Based on what you played the artist model is more straight forward, more clear sound than the custom model !! The custom model sound for me is more mellow !! Not for leading in a trombone section !! Thanks for sharing !! 👍 👍 take care !!

I think the custom horn felt a little bit more compact with a more compact sound. Think I can hear the response difference too. I prefer and seek a compact sound. A few weeks ago I did a salsa gig and my friend played 2nd bone on a 32H. I played a 30H. The perfect Burkle-duo! I tried his 32H and these 2 horns felt like the exactly same horn only in 2 different sizes. Same feeling when playing and the same sound. But in my opinion the more compact sound character of the 30H is the winner!

I think I preferred the custom. Currently, I have a Conn 88 HO and a King 605 F, I think. It’s from the mid 70’s.

For the playing that I do - with a 6-piece group - I think the Custom would work better. It sounds like it would be better for section work. If I were a soloist with a trio backing me up, I would definitely use the Artist model - more of a soloist sound. If I could afford it, I would have both of them.

Per your recommendation I bought a BAC LA Jazz trombone. Playing it with a community big band and also a showband at the local state college. If I am chosen for the trombone giveaway, it will go to a fellow student who's using a piece of junk horn. It's all he can afford as a young college student.

Hi Paul. I have always loved your sound. I have been playing since 1978. Yes, I am a little older. I have owned more than 60 small bore trombones. I was just trying to play the classic trombones of the great players that I have always idolized. I would love to compare the BAC horns against my current Lawler model 3. That would be fun. @@PaulTheTrombonist You are right. You would not believe the vintage bones I traded straight up for the model 3 Lawler, but I had owned them ask for a while and I really was not using them much... no regrets. I gobble you are not anywhere near me in Delaware, but if you are in the area you are moire than welcome to drop by and try it out!! I have the folks brass bell section with the 8 inch gold brass bell and the 7.5 inch red brass bell. The slide is all Nicole. 500-.510 dual bore. Also, if you stop by would you like to test snow old Holtons, Olds, and Reynolds trombones. I can make that happen! Kevin McAlley

The Artist model sounded warmer, more of a buttery quality. The Custom had a slightly brighter sound; it would seem to be a great lead horn. Both are great looking trombones, but as was stated by a great jazz artist, you don’t play the shine.
