In 'Sie werden aus Saba alle kommen', performed by the Netherlands Bach Society for All of Bach, the three magi travelled from the East to Bethlehem in order to see the newborn Jesus. Bach illustrated their exotic origins with ‘oriental’ sounds. He opted for a varied instrumental setting, including strings, horns, recorders and oboes da caccia. “It’s very beautifully done”, says conductor Hans-Christoph Rademann.
Recorded for the project All of Bach on January 23rd 2016 at the Grote Kerk, Harlingen. If you want to help us complete All of Bach, please subscribe to our channel bit.ly/2vhCeFB or consider donating bit.ly/2uZuMj5.

The best perfomance of cantata ever. Unearthly voice of Barnabas Hegyi is like a singing of guest angel.

Mr. Rademann's reading is deeper, subtler than Herreveghe's. I have not heard a better interpretation, Gardiner's included. Mr. Brook's singing has simply no equal, Mr. Johanssen is very impressive too. Wonderful ensemble sonorities, very important in this cantata. A very beautiful performance indeed!

I'm not a musician, alas. It is works like Bach's that make me intensely yearn for the ability to play a stringed instrument or sing in a choir, to become a part of a sublime experience. Alas indeed.

I love how the tenor (Daniel Johannsen) sings with his eyes -- we get to see it in these video close-ups, and perhaps in his operatic roles in a live audience, but I fear in a church or concert setting, that effect is lost on the viewers. Amazing artist!

One of my very favorite Cantatas of Bach - I have played his Prelude and Fugue in C Major - BWV 547 which is either a direct "rip-off" of this Cantata or visa versa. It mimics the first movement "Sie werden aus Saba alle kommen" exactly only with further exposition. And the very calm but fitting end to the entire season for the Birth of the Lord with the beautiful Fugue.

Having learned 'Hickory Dickory Dock' (547) as one of my first big P&Fs, while learning to play the horn at the same time, I was also delighted to discover this!

Sehr herzlichen Dank! Speziellen Dank an Daniel Johannsen! Gruß aus dem Vorderen Odenwald (nicht dem Vorderen Orient!) B. Schu

Klasse!
