The way you hit the opening gave me brought tears to my eyes and gave me goosebumps. I’ve chosen to commit the entire 3rd suite to muscle memory, and I think I just found my second teacher!

Thank you so much, Inbal, for sharing your wonderful playing here! In this particular case your reasonable bowing helped me a lot. I wonder what you do with the left thumb when shifting in this thumb-upon-neck passage, d to c and c to b. Is your thumb in contact with the strings while shifting or do you lift it up and set it down in the new position? I find this part really strenuous... Thank you again

I believe there is an error in the original sheet music at bar 40. There shouldn't be a sharp on the F note. I can explain why.

Hello Ms. Segev, I want to start out by saying how much I respect and admire you as an artist, performer and teacher and thank you for making these musing videos for us to learn from. I have learnt so much from each and every one of them. In my own studies of Bach I have almost disregarded all modern editions focusing on the Anna Magdalena manuscript as a more historically correct interpretation. I must admit though, I have trouble with her slurings, I'm never really sure which note the slur begins on, how many notes are in the slur, whether she ran out of ink? and one bad decision affects the entire piece since each measure flows into the next. So my question is how do you do it? How do you make sense of what seems to be scribble, no disrespect to Anna Magdalena. Which leads me to my next question, have you ever thought of publishing your own signature performance edition of these works? Using the Anna Magdalena manuscript and your interpretations of which as a guideline in modern text. That would be a treasure, I would own at least three copies of it, one to play off of, another to loan out to very close friends and one to have just incase something happened to the others. Food for thought you must admit? .

thank you so much for your insight and sharing of skills. i am a violist and to learn this piece I have been listening to various recordings but that first third of the piece... very hard to learn because the phrasing is confusing to me. This is my favorite prelude from bachs cello suites- Thank you so much for providing for me some crucial understanding! I will go practice right now!

Beautiful Masterclass. I Love the way you play. You mentioned, Yale. I went to the music school as a guitarist in 1985/86. Did you get the opportunity to study with Aldo Parisot? I knew him and his family in the 1980's.
@Inbalsegevcello3 жыл бұрын
Thank you Robby LeBlanc. Yes I did study with Also Parisot, and he and his wife even “adopted” me for my first year in the United States. I learned so much in my years there.

I really enjoyed the Prelude masterclass!!! What a gem of valuable pointers!!! I learned a lot! I instinctively played so many passages the way you described it, but it's great to hear the analysis. I played this Suite for my senior recital for classical guitar in A-Minor transcribed by Michael Lorimar and are now playing the Prelude again after 34 years! I am planning on playing it for a lecture recital in March and after that I am planning to play it in D Minor. Any thoughts on the transcription in A Minor? I have not heard anybody on youtube playing it in A Minor, but I really like it. How do you feel about transcription to another key? I am open to it, especially for the classical guitar, but I know there are purists.

Adriana Ratsch-Rivera hello and thanks for writing. I love hearing the cello suites played by a good guitarist and having it in a different key is not a problem for me. Bach’s favorite instrument was the lute so I feel the guitar, it’s cousin, sounds very close to what Bach had in mind. Of course you know the Lute transcription of the 5th suite was done by JSB himself.

AGLMIL hi, thanks you very much for watching and for writing! I wish I had the time to create subtitles, in English as well as in other languages - but alas, this is a very time consuming undertaking)-: not to mention, expensive...I hope that you can understand at least some of what I am saying. Thanks again , Inbal

Master class soa tão soberbo! Por que não simplesmente aula? Ninguem sabe o certo apenas aponta um dos caminhos ou suas próprias visões. Grandes interpretes tocam tão diferente um do outro! Será que um deles é o certo e os outros errados.

Thanks a lot. There are parts for example at the end of phrases where you don’t do the written slurs kinda emphasizing the end, should I slur those anyway? Also when demonstrating the first sequences you play the second with same bowing at the first, should I always follow whats written or do same bowings for sequences or question/answer? Thanks!
